2011 Samsung Plasma 3D PS51D550

Finally set up both today. Works not done but gave it a test run. I am very happy with the PQ in sd as well. Some pics 1 in sd & 1 in hd movie.
The Onkyo HT was a wise choice for me , not tested with music as yet.
No Settings tweaked as well , just lowered the cell light & brightness for the tv.

Any 1 tried the new firmware, is it any better ?
I was trying to get to the service menu as told at avsforum though Mute - 1- 8-2 - power just switched the tv on , no option to change the model.

hey i have tried scrolling for 6 hrs and done this past 2 days ..image seem to be fainted a little bit. Thanks for that

i have query if i increase cell light to 20 and contrast and brightness to 100 and run scrolling will this remove the image faster.
because with above settings i can see the image with proper edges ...while with other settings images is very faint...

Planning on buying a plasma 42 inch and above is the requirement, 80,000 is the budget.

What i have read on the forums the two most talked about in the budget are panasonic 42st30 and samsung 51d550.

How do these two compare in terms of picture quality ?
Can anyone shed some light.

Hello guys,

Excuse my poor english.

I have a big problem, I just changed my PS50B550 for this new PS51B550.

I use a Xtreamer to read HD an SD movies. Before, with my B550, all was fine, audio on my amplifier by optical, video onh the TV, perfectly synch.

With the D550, on some movies ( all my Xvid or DivX for example ), the video and audio are not synch anymore, the video is a little before the audio. 24p mkv are fines.

If I use my PC monitor instead of the D551, the audio is synch again !

That's totally crazy, I didn't expected to have a such problem with my new set.

Any ideas ?

Thanks in advance from France.

Directly plug in the HDD to the usb port of TV, it will play all files :)

Hello,

I can't do that, I use my Xtreamer to stream movies on a NAS, with a nice Jukebox. I just want to to the same as before with my PS50B550.

The PQ is awesome on the D550, I really hope to keep it and not return the set but I must find a solution for this sync issue.

Guys, any idea on what settings should I use for better picture on Tata Sky HD+.
I used to have a Panasonic 42G10D, the Tatasky HD quality looked awesome.
In PS51D550 I am getting a lot of jagged edges on almost all HD channels and pictures arent as clear either, its really off putting. I tried playing with the settings on TV but nothing helped.
Any Tata Sky HD users facing the same problem? I am on 1080i, facing the same thing on 720p also.
Or, does this have something to with the bigger screen? I really wish I can give you a screenshot comparison, the difference is night and day:sad:

No offence meant, but Panasonic G to samsung 5 series plasma is a downgrade. I don't understand why you would do that.

But it does not explain your phenominon though.

Good starting point is to switch off all picture processing and trying out.

Thanks Shaiju, I'll check it out.

@BLASTO
None taken.
The thing is I wanted a 50 incher within 65K and the samsung fit in perfectly.
btw, I still have the G10 in my other room.

@Shaiju, I just found an article supporting your statement. Below is the relevant extract from hdtvtest site:

"When we first received the PS51D550, we were upset at the quality presented during Blu-ray viewing. Although some edges in the image still appeared sharp, fine details were being smudged out, and the overall clarity of the picture was reduced. We soon found out that this was due to the [Digital Noise Filter], which was chomping through film grain and other high frequency textures in the picture and giving the whole film a slight watercolour painting look.

We found out that the culprit was a bug which we reported to Samsung with their LCD televisions some months ago; where the [Digital Noise Filter] setting would actually be stuck at its highest level, despite the TVs menus reporting it as being Off. We could actually get all the picture detail back by turning the filter on to Low and then to Off again but we had to do this every single time we selected the input that our player was connected to.
Fortunately, the bug has been solved with the latest firmware update. We upgraded to this by downloading the file from Samsungs web site and feeding it to the TV on a USB drive, and were delighted to see that after a few minutes, our freshly updated PS51D550 was playing back high-quality film material from Blu-ray without skipping a beat (or a pixel, for that matter). Unlike higher-up Samsung displays, Off with the D550 plasma actually does mean Off, probably because the TV we reviewed used the MStar processor and doesnt have access to the more advanced noise reduction which Samsung are so eager to enable on TVs which use their own chip. With the 51D550 as we reviewed it, there is no unwanted noise reduction, allowing all of the clarity, texture and detail from high quality film scans to come through on the Samsung PS51D550. Excellent!"

But the problem now is that the indian website has the latest firmware as 1020.0 and the UK website has 1024.1. Can I install that firmware?
