Waaaaaahhhhhhhhh:sad::mad::o:rolleyes:
I am not even looking at 1MBPS. Damn Airtel.
What is your plan speed supposed to be?

Unless you actually have something like a 1Mb plan, this is absolutely unaccaptable, and you should log it as a fault. Some of the Airtel engineers are actually pretty good and helpful.
Why does the chennai guy have bangalore as server and vice versa on speedtest results?
Watch the speedtest messages. It pings a number of servers and picks the best.

For an authoritative Airtel test, one should use Airtel's own speed test --- because the speed from your house to their server is the only thing they can deal with. Speed to rest of the world is largely out of the control of your local ISP.

Railwire is good ISP by Indian Railways and my apartment people using it for last 2 years. I was also using it but switched to Airtel due to some other reason which is not related to quality, service etc.

They have plan with FUP and without FUP. But their FUP data is quite big (60GB) unlike Airtel. However, price is not comparable to ACT broadband but reliable.

See their website: Railwire - Home

For genuine speed test, I think they use a server that is not in your city but some 200 miles away.

Cheers

No, it is best to use the nearest server to check what your link is capable of. The TCP throughput depends on RTT latency and lossiness and this will never match the real capacity of your link with a far away server.

Right.

Stupid BSNL, i have been using their BB for years and they still have not increased the speed of their unlimited plans. After the FUP it will become max 512Kbps. When ACT and others are giving 10Mbps for 1k these guys are way behind. My problem is there ACT is not available in my area.

Check this site. The package is 1000/- per month for 10mbps unlimited connection. Good service so far, no disruptions. It is present in limited areas in Bangalore

Thanks

DAMM!! 1000 bucks for 10Mbps .... unllimited .. DAMM DAMM DAMMM!!! BBNL, please visit Delhi, lots of potential customers ....:D :D

Oh, we have complained to Airtel many times. They quote last mile issues as perpetual problems. They even changed the last mile wire about 10 days ago. Made no difference. I think we have a 2 MBPS plan.

Cheers

BSNL Hyd is giving 8 mbps, 40 GB for something like 900 and 512 after that...their 1499 plan is 16 mbps 60 GB then 4 mbps...something like that..unfortunately this is only for Hyd..lets hope we too will get it soon:mad:

I used to regularly get 1.8mpbs on speed test of 2mbps plan here and at my earlier residence. Please try and escalate this within Airtel.

I sympathise. We had problems for months. OK, we had to accept their difficulty when cable repair meant digging up an ECR junction, and the local authority wouldn't let them, but even after the fixed that problem, which had cut off several hundred people, it still wouldn't run reliably.

The last engineer, of many, to visit, said, "You've had problems for a long time, right? We'll make it perfect. And Somehow, he did!

At least for now :D

That's a joke: it's their "last mile."

ACT Broadband has been advertizing crazy from past few months about their 10Mbps internet with pretty good FUP's of 50, 75, 100 GB etc for reasonable price. I wanted to know how good it is and does it really work with reliability and do they give the speed they promise?? A couple of years back ACT had very bad reviews but now some people have told me they have improved.

Wanted to know if anyone is using it and how well it works and do they have any hidden costs??? I have been using the BSNL 512 kbps dsl connection for many years and it has almost never given any problem and works flawlessly, hence i am skeptical about moving to something else.

Need help here !!!

I have been using it for the past one year and have found it working flawlessly so even you can go for it.

Have been using BSNL for years and off late their download speed is very pathetic. I've been using 4mbps 20GB FUP and nowadays I am not even getting more than 200KBps download speed for a 4mbps connection. Seems like it is time to move on othe service providers but confused which one to choose. I would have readily gone for beam but it is not yet available in chennai. Apart from Airtel please sugest some good BB service providers in chennai. I pay around Rs.1600 for the 4mbps 20GB FUP connection with BSNL.

Try out youtelecom, when I was in Chennai (2006) I used this connection in Adyar. Good speed and I hope they would have got good plans now.
