ACT Broadband 10 Mbps !! Does it really WORK???

so many ACT high speed plans ,with pathetic data limits of 20gigs till 40gig
it is like 5star dinner at regular price but only at 12am!

i suppose if you stream 1movie in hd may be 2.8gig will go
hathway plan pouring unlimited data for 500..one 1.5gig movie per night

I can tell you you will have run behind ACT forever to get them to respond. Not worth the trouble. I wasted two months on them. Finally I got an airtel connection and constantly get north of 8 mbps....however it does cost just over Rs 2,000 per month.

I have been using ACT Broadband for 3 months. Had a down time just once and for a very short period. Speedtest.net results are good. On speak easy, which is mostly connectivity to the USA, it is far from the claimed number. I have their Double Premium package which is 10Mbps and 75gb of download, after this it is 2Mbps which is still good. This plan no longer exists for new customers. Have downloaded 32gb of data in under 7 hours with this connection. The download limit at maximum speed works for me. I don't feel the need to download every single movie at 50gb.

Called ACT sales guy and talked to him. He told that he would send all details to my email id but I never received anything. The sales guy was particular in doing an online payment and told that there are lot freebies and Rs750/- worth of credit to my account. I wanted to know more details and he told that a technical person would contact me but as of today no one has contacted me.

Anway I just wanted to know if it is a point to point cable connection or an ADSL connection. Also do they have wifi modem as the sales guy told me they do not have wifi modem but told that he would check again. Is it possible to connect wifi router to this modem or does ACT provide wifi modem.

It's fibre based. They run fibre to a switch somewhere close, e.g. Basement of our apartment complex, from there it's a 100mbps LAN cable to your house. The actual speed will be as per your plan. You can connect the LAN cable to the RJ45 Internet port of your Router. Modem is not required, as its not adsl connection.

I have 25Mbps / 100GB plan, mostly get that on speed tests.

Got a mail and SMS from YOU BB mentioning that my area (Chennai - T.Nagar) is not servicible though they have mentioned in their website that my area is servicible. They do not have local number I could contact. All their number reach call center only. Need to look out for another provider.

Hello All,

I have been using ACT for around 8 months now. Their service is good. Till last month I was on 10 mbps/50gb FUP but recently I got it changed to 15mbps/50Gb for an additional charge of Rs.100 p/m.

I feel the 50Gb FUP is little less for the 15mbps speed, as you can run out of the 50gb limit on the first day itself if you want to. I also do torrenting but take care not to download too much, but it is difficult. Once I run out of the limit the speed suddenly drops to 256kbps, which sucks.

Overall I am happy, as I have not faced any speed drop or downtime so far, touch wood.:clapping:

512 kbps plan i know. I was looking for higher speed ones.
higher speed one i am not sure,i need fup of say 150gigs @2mbps

option

a)ACT 8mbps

what is use of 40gb FUP in 8mbps read it is like:
1day 8mbps,29day 512kbps.........................................paying 1000+ Rs

b)Hathway 512k for .................................................500Rs
All 30 days !

why pay 2x for 1 day at 8mbps :)

The options of BB providers in Chennai are very limited. Seems like YOU BB services are good in Bangalore but pathetic in Chennai as they are not even aware of area and region. ACT, Beam do not have their presence in Chennai. As of now apart from BSNL only Airtel with 8mbps connection and 30GB FUP is only my option. Not sure why the ISP's are not interested in Chennai.

RCOM has launched 2Mbps unlimited for 699/month and 4Mbps unlimited for 1099/month with NO FUP (Confirmed !!) !!! Even Tikona BB has started 2Mbps unlimited for 999/month and 4Mbps for 1499/month .

How have you verified "No FUP" ... for instance, I would not take customer service personnel's word for it! In BSNL I enjoyed "No FUP" for around 4 months but suddenly I see FUP being applied since Nov. Some friends say my case was an anomaly and some other still enjoy "No FUP". BSNL customer care says FUP is applied to all.

I have verified and it is truly NO FUP , i know people using this plan and they have verified !!! I am personally thinking of changing over to it soon from my bsnl !!

Hi Guys,

I have recently shifted to Bangalore and was looking for a good internet connection. Luckily both Airtel and ACT were available in my area(Kundanhalli). I was using Airtel 4 Mbps with 150G FUP in Pune and was really happy with it. However, the 25 Mbps (200G FUP) from ACT plan seemed too good and I went ahead with it. The great thing about this plan is that even after FUP you get 2 Mbps!! The only doubt was whether they deliver on what they promised.

Well, I am happy to report that so far its been really good. My speedtest is always at 25mbps or thereabout. The only issue is that the uploads are somewhat unreliable and are at much lesser speeds (around 500 kbps). Anyways, now I can use netflix and play multiplayer games like BF3 without any glitches whatsoever. Even OnLive on my Nexus 7 tab works flawlessly. Youtube streams like its stored in my hard disk and even the hi def(1080P) movies stored on my seedbox are streamed over the internet without any issues.

Its just been 1 month so far and I am keeping my fingers crossed that this continues.
