I placed 5 orders with Amazon UK in Feb.Free shipping.Received 4 of them within 10 days of shipping and 1 after a month.Placed 1 order with Amazon US.Standard shipping.Received through a local courier after three weeks.
In March I placed 6 orders with Amazon UK.Received 2 after a week.The rest have still not arrived :sad:

I've noticed when I buy from Amazon or ebay, their local courier partner don't call after the package arrives to confirm the address or our presence in it. Its not that they have to do it but it gives a certain reassurance that our package has arrived and may be we could go collect it ourselves in case there is a delay in the last mile delivery. Just a thing with international orders online I guess.

Did you buy from Amazon US or UK? Free,Standard or Priority shipping?My orders were with free super saver shipping from UK,therefore the question of a local courier calling up to confirm address or delivery does not arise!It would be a great favour if the local postman even rings the doorbell to deliver the parcel.My first few parcels were simply dropped in the postal box outside our house.Any passerby could have helped himself to a few CDS.I have now given instructions to the postman to hand deliver the parcels

Do note guys, Amazon would go the extra mile if you havent received the order.

In my case (I shipped to a friends address in UK), I realised after nearly four months (when I was in London) that one of the packages had a BD missing. I called up the customer service and they shipped it by first class, no questions asked.

Amazon does have very good customer care.. once I had ordered some high pressure air cans for cleaning purposes and didnt receive them within 2 weeks as promised. I rasied the concern with the seller and amazon. as the item had gone oos by then i received a full refund within 2-3 days.

Another instance of prompt service from AmazonUK:
Ordered as a trial run, three blu-ray titles through Free Super Saver Shipping on 22nd Apr. Price reduced after VAT component was removed. The site showed that it would be delivered by 15th May, but it was shipped on 24th Apr through Royal Mail and the postman delivered it at Bangalore on 30th Apr without any extra charge. All discs are pretty intact and played well. I am impressed!
I am sure I won't get Planegt Earth for #12.49, Pride & Prejudice for #7.08 in India!!!

Same here..was charged once but the last time I marked it as gifts there was no customs charge..guess its the discretion of the customs guy who handles the package..

The postman today delivered my Planet Earth spl edition and Life blu-ray disks in my office. The customs charged Rs. 720/- as duty:sad:. The price of the disks were just below 2K. So the duty comes to above 30% making the total price 2700/-. Seems like customs at Kochi are charging very high duties. So next time I'm gonna try with a Trivandrum address. Luckily we have offices in every district. Even at this price it is a VFM buy as I had seen some members selling the planet earth series alone for 2.5k. I would also like to thank FM srnair who helped me to order it:clapping:. I'm yet to view the disks as i will be home only on Sunday.

Well mate I have been double unfortunate..N I have understood it well from last 45 days of Amazon UK parcels coming home n reading abt ur experiences here that Mumbai Customs charge more! grrrrrrrrrrrr

2 parcels came on same day..one in morning and one in late noon and charged Rs. 1075 and Rs. 670 as custom duty for them

The first one was Rs. 3,000 and 2nd one was Rs.1850 :sad:

But I generally buy in as small a quantity as possible which reaches the 25 gBP limit.

My order of 6 DVDs from Amazon UK through free shipping got delivered today without customs duty. The items were shipped on 4th July and have been delivered on 13th - this is pretty quick, a sharp contrast to ordering from Amazon US, where shipments take over 2 months to arrive by standard shipping.

Strangely though Amazon declared the shipment for customs purposes as 12 DVDs - GBP 48.44 instead of 6 DVDs - 24.22 GBP. Does anybody know if this is usual?
