amazon.co.uk - free shipping to india

Looks like amazon is getting a lot of business because of the free shipping. Good for us.

Yeah! most biz for them coming from we members here!
That shud make them realize that launching an Amazon India will benefit them big time...
not to mention..us as well ;)

I finally got charged customs duty. I possibly jinxed myself by declaring I was never charged.

Paid 558 Rs. customs on 26 GBP of BD -Clint Eastwood Director Collection (5 movies) and Harry Potter Deathly Hallows - Part 1.

:( bad luck - same happened to me - the next delivery got charged after i told that i havn't spent anything on custom's duty.....:indifferent14:

^^ If all disks comes through Cochi then it all depends luck. In your case you were charged only Rs. 247/-. But for me that was a whopping 720/-. Best wishes for your new order.

Looks like an official jinx is active like sud98 and nairsaab have said

Ordered 3 BDs on 10 July, 2011 with Free Super Saver Shipping.
The Last Samurai, Life and Good Night and Good Luck

Total Cost: GBP 22.85

Est. Delivery Date: 1 August, 2011.

Addressed it to myself, residential address, as marking it as gift to my wife did not help me much last order :p

Actual Delivery Date: 22 July, 2011 by postman Package and BDs intact

I was charged a total of Rs. 629 as charges incurred.

Judging by the near incomprehensible scribbling on the Customs clearance sheet, there is apparently a method to the madness:

Total value Rs. 1661 (GBP 22.85)
Customs 35% Rs. 599
Postage 3% Rs. 30

Hope this helps guys! Maybe we have cracked the Cochin Postal Customs code:yahoo:

Just for information and caution.. Please make sure to get the printed bill for the customs amount paid and they are obliged to show the customs charge slip for the item. Please dont rely on the pasted slip on the box.:ohyeah:

^^ Yeah right! I had asked my wife to make sure he gave a receipt. When I came home, the area of the pasted customs slip where the charges were to be written was torn and our man had scribbled the charges on the amazon cardboard packing! :)

Is a printed customs statement available? All i could see was a slip pasted on the package with CD and PD written by hand.

Yes, they will have an consolidated statement for the all the items released on the particular day of Inspection by customs(generally as of now it is only written in an white paper sealed by Accessing officer/ Suprnt.customs/ postal authority. The above paper will be available in your destination post office, most of the time the postman will not carry this.

However they have to give a printed cash receipt for you for the cash collected.

+ most of the accessing customs officers will put if there is no duty on the printed(pasted) slip on the box as"NO DUTY".
+ If accessed for duty, the amount should be written in numbers + alphabets to avoid cheating by postman( adding 1 before or after ):D Sometimes they missed to do this and it becomes an advantage for the notorious postman or the person sending it for delivery.:D

My amazon parcel was collected by my colleague from the post office itself. So there is no cheating by the postman.

What and how does it matter if its post man or post master when its all about putting 1 or 0 in the start or end? loss would be ours rite? Srini was just quoting his past experience with postal department. Lets be warned about these postal fellas.

In any case Happy for you Baiju that everything went well...cheers!!

1 TB = 75 USD
2 TB = 110 USD

But do you think this can escape customs?

Prices in India are too expensive link

cheers!!

It is almost impossible to get electronic items skipped from the hands of the customs. So be prepared to shell another 35% for customs. Also try Shop your World, Borderlinx, aramex etc.

Amazon coming to India is wow! Hoping that they are not corrupted by the thought that they can get away like other dealers by following similar practices.
