My own order was placed on 4th May and dispatched on 6th. The promised delivery date is 26th May. That is because Amazon likes to err on the higher side. Most people have received delivery in 10~12 days.

In your case, the stock may be backordered and hence the late dispatch date.

Ordered 11 DVD's and 2 CD's. The package was shipped in two days of order placed on 14th May and expected delivery on 6th June. The last delivery of 9 DVD's didn't attract any Customs after I marked them as gifts (if that helped). Got my fingers crossed for this consignment as well.

Amazon will never charge customs duty. When the package arrives in India, the customs dept. may decide to levy the duty or waive it off. The post office of India will collect the customs duty.

A tip: Never order a lot in one go. Break the order in two or three separate orders. Place orders on different days.

And by what I understand Movie/Music DVD/CD/VCDs are exempted from custom duty. (I don't have links to prove it.) Somehow Bluray is still not in the duty free list.

Bluray falls under the "recorded media" group. Usually gifts valued upto Rs. 10,000 (as per custom office valuation) are exempt from customs duty. So always mark the package as a gift - to yourself, your wife, family member, etc.

Custom valuation and duty calculation is as follows:

- value of the goods as per challan/invoice or custom's own handbook - whichever is higher
- shipping cost is added to it
- sometimes 1~5% is also added as handling charges - especially for large items
- duty is calculated at 30%
- in MH state, 4% octroi is added on (basic value + shipping cost + handling + duty)

True. What I meant was I received the earlier ordered package of 9 DVD's from the local post office without any duty being charged by the customs. I guess its because I marked them as gifts. I've tried my luck with the current order.

Yes. Amazon USA has a global buy program or something like that in which they take some deposit against customs duties.

Did you gift it yourselft at the time of placing order ?

In my case , it came through post office , there was a receipt on the package with the amount calculated by customs officer from Mumbai . So, I had to pay the duty . No options.

No, I didn't gift it to myself.. Reading other posts, I figure I just got a little lucky.. hopefully the remaining set of 3 disks arrive with no "additional charges"..I also noticed that on one of the shipments with 2 BDs, the total cost was only around 21 quid and I still got it with no S&H charges. Wish Amazon runs this offer from time to time. Now I'm getting greedy..

But the dispatch date is somewhere around 23rd to 25th May and delivery estimate is 10th to 16th June.

I was hoping to order the Alien Anthology + Planet Earth in the next purchase but my previous order has not been dispatched. Wondering if it will escalate further.

Finally, my order with the 2 movies have been dispatched and expected date is somewhere around 10th of June as per amazon. But I think it should be here by end of May. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for getting them customs free.

Once this reaches successfully, the next order should be Alien Anthology + Planet Earth.

Can u guys suggest some must have blu ray's to own, this amazon free shipping is driving me crazy so want to take the most of it.

Yeah. Thanks to the customs dept too for sparing me.

I shd say luck was on my side. when I placed the order, I was a bit apprehensive on the following counts:

1) order value just under Rs. 10k. Theoretically it shouldn't have attracted duty but you never know. I thought about placing a small test order but didn't know at that time if the free shipping promotion would be extended. Prices of the same movies on amazon.com were far higher!!!

2) if the order wasn't delivered it would be quite a significant loss for me.

But everything turned out much better than expected

Ya, its good for people who buy multiple times from the US or UK. As the initial membership fees is USD 35.00 and shipping charges for <= 500 gms is USD 10.00 and USD 18.00 for upto 1kg.

Good alternative.
