Android TV stick

Guys
So I can buy this MK808 android stick and plug it into the USB port of my Oppo BD-83 and take it into my CRT via component and I can browse youtube and the net?

It supports USB OTG so ... or is the USB for keyboard/mouse only?

Then an HDMI>S-Video convertor direct to CRT? Will that work?

Great idea. :clapping:

Guys, tipping postman doesnt help. Since all foreign parcel lands at Foreign post office section, they have a dedicated customs section in that. All parcels gets scanned, ripped apart to see what is inside, repacked and re-distributed once cleared. I have personally gone and cleared some of the items that were stuck at foreign post customs.
If you lucky and the custom's officer is lethargic that day, your parcel might escape and come out :p

cheers!

That's correct. Custom duty is not in hands of postman but tip to postman is only to make timely delivery and re-attempts if the door is locked.

You can say to keep good relationship. :p

Yup although for these small items from China I have never had any pre opened packages from the po. And I have got plenty til date. ..

Yeah 100 bucks is just for a prompt rapport ;)

I received the mk808 and first and foremost flashed it to finless 1.6 rom. Since then it's worked well. To answer a couple of your queries...

Wifi is not the strong point of these sticks. With this custom rom I get a stable 18mbps wifi link when there is just a wooden partition between the stick and the asus n16 router. Streaming 1080p mkv over wifi from home server was without any issues though.

For a better experience I am using a cheap usb ethernet adapter bought from eBay and a wired connection. Caveat being the ethernet switch has to be turned off and back on following every bootand the status bar still says no Internet connection even though it shows a ethernet symbol.

It can be powered using the television usb port but works best with at least a 5v 2a adapter. Mine shipped with one.

The status bar can be hidden and brought back on will in this rom.

Flash videos work without audio sync problem. iPlayer on bbc is broken though for some reason.

I have not bothered with Skype but lots have successfully used it on other forums.

There is a rom in the works with working xbmc with hw acc and kernel with cpu scaled to 1.4 ghz. Closely following that thread.

So far almost all apps I have tried work well. For a net price of 3k, this is a great device. I had to buy a mini hdmi to hdmi adapter, usb ethernet adapter and a usb wireless mouse to augment functionality. So still a shade under 4k... Very very promising to play with.

Not for those who like things working to order out of the box. It needs tinkering and constant upgrade to exploit the best out of this nifty yet delightful device

Quoting off another forum for the query regarding IPlayer

I was able to get the MK 808 to play BBC iPlayer and 4oD, by configuring Mozilla's Android Firefox to stream content directly from the appropriate website.

* I downloaded the Firefox Browser for Android from the Google Play store (free of charge). The default Browser, which seems to be Chrome, would not work.
* In Firefox, I downloaded and installed the "Desktop by Default" add-on, which circumvents the need to select "Request Desktop Site" in the Firefox menu each time it is run. This stopped the websites reporting that my device was not compatible.
* In Firefox Settings, I changed the Tap Plugins in the Content section, to Enabled (details)

The Adobe Flash App should already be installed on the Mini TV (See Settings|Apps). Otherwise it needs to be installed from Adobe's "Archived Flash Player versions" for Android 4.0 or better.

Hi Friends,

I am planning to buy New TV.

I don't want go with SmartTV (planning to connect TV to Android Stick) but i want better 3D option.

can some one suggest Good 3D TV (can connect android stick) model without smarttv, with 3D?

Here are my manufacture preferences:
1.Sony,
2.LG
3.Samsung.

or better to go with smart tv?

Suggestion much appreciated.

Thanks

Most 3D TVs are 'smart'. So select the best 3D that suits you. You can still add the android stick if you wish. I have Sony 40HX750, but I like LG for its passive 3D.

Got it from dealextreme.com. Yes it supports 230V and the HDMI switch was 11.30 and MK808 was 53.40 + 309Rs (Custom Duty) ~ 3800 Rs.

Leo,
Can you please let me know the exact model no. that you ordered. I went to the dealextreme site and found several mk808 s listed with a slight variation in prices.
Thanks
pnreddy

^^ Just a word of caution, Dealextream takes 1 week just to ship the order and then another 20 days to reach ............ this is ofcourse normal shipping I am talking about.

Has anyone tried connecting a USB DAC to the stock ROM or a custom ROM. Need to get something with that along with Blutooth support urgently.

I will test to connect USB DAC when I get my stick. Should be by today or tomorrow at the max.

Thanks mate. Bought one (MK808). :)

Got it today. :)

I ordered it on 15th. 12 days delivery is good. No custom duty charged.

Connected my desktop Dell wireless keyboard/mouse and used it for 5-10 minutes.

Initial impression - it is good.

Now, need to root / install custom sw.

Any idea, how to switch it off safely, Power Off" widget needs root.

Install the finless 1.6 rom. It's pre rooted and had a power button addon. Use the external pin to key hole approach to put the device in flash mode
