Android TV stick

OP Can you stream HD Videos from a Network Location over Wifi without any stutters ...???

@dheerajjotwani be aware, Deal extreme, takes a week to just ship the product, rest depends on transit, but I will roughly take 25 days if taken the eco shipping route .....

I agree. I received products from DX in 25-30 days whereas I get them from ebay.com in 15-25 days. I am talking about products shipped from HK/China.

So, if the price is similar or 1-2 USD more on ebay.com, buy it from eBay.

Is it fair to compare Andriod TV versus Media Players from WD or ASUS? Can someone please provide a comparison on following parameters
1. Features
2. Reliability of Wifi connection
3. Sound pass through for movie files
4 Picture Quality

1. Android sticks leave the previous Gen media players way behind once you realize the power and versatility of Android
2. Wifi with current roms is stable though not very powerful. The possibility of adding an external wifi Dongle is there as well
3. Sound is not a strong point. So far out only gives a 2 Channel PCM audio signal. Nothing hd there.
4. PQ is as good as your source material. The inboard gpu chip is very capable of rendering full 1080p media.

All said this device is not for those who like things working out of the box. It needs to be polished and cut but sure has the promise of greatness at this price, form factor and usability

I would suggest a Raspberry Pi or A cubieboard loaded with RaspBMC, if a Media Player is all you want to have to play Movies and Videos.

1. Better features as far as a media player goes
2. Perfect Wifi connection albeit via Wifi USB dongle (one disadvantage is that you have to manually set it up)
3. DTS and DD Passthrough possible so your AVR can decode the codec
4. Picture quality more or less same.

And I agree with @dheerajjotwani on "these devices are not for those who like things working out of the box" ...... and yes I have both an Android Stick (UHost U1A) and Raspberri Pi tested with RaspBMC

@dheerajjotwani and @sam9s, thank you for your suggestions. This gives a fair amount of information I was looking for to make my decision.

A nifty gadget that I bought today at National Market, the USB to LAN connector that worked out of the box, on plugging it in to the USB port of the mk808b, no need for driver installation. Connected this to the LAN cable and everything worked like a charm. Have switched off the wifi and enjoying better speeds with the wired connection.

Nice. Model Number and/or more pictures please.

How much you paid for it?

You can also spend a little bit more money and get a Android based computer that is in a small box instead of being on the USB dongle itself. This allows you to access more ports, and it is still small enough to fit anywhere.

I've been playing around with the Minix Neo X5 for a few weeks now, and have come away very impressed. It has as many ports as a PC, and is only slightly larger than an average wallet. It also comes with 1GB RAM and 16GB internal storage (which of course can be expanded).

I was able to run it out of the box (it comes installed with Android 4.1 (i think)), was able to install Android apps, and watch HD videos.

I still felt that the Roku HD is a bit better at full HD quality video, but the difference is not much.

That thing still does not have s-video out. Is there such a thing as an hdmi to s-video convertor? My crt will not display non-interlaced progressive scan so I need traditional signal

Sent from mobile on a crappy keyboard. Pls excuse typos.

@Gobble why are you even considering it if it does not have an S-Video, there are truckloads of Android based media players out there ....... scan and choose one per your needs ...

android media player - Free Shipping - DX

BTW your CRT if not too old atleast will have component in, if thats the case see if Component out is available for any media player you choose.
