Hi Sidvee

Evolution Acoustic speakers should be a good option

Thanks Prem, yes these are high on my list, but I am also quite curious about the Magico s1 as well, the cheapest Magico at $12.5k with the same tweeter used in the s5. Best of all both of these speakers have an Indian dealer, Audire of Coimbatore. Incidentally Alon Wolf of Magico did praise the odyssey Khartago (in an Absolute sound interview) as an amp. good enough to drive his speakers, and since the Odyssey series has a similar house sound as the Symphonic Line, I am hoping for some good synergy.

I know I have an uphill battle on my hand trying to top these. My plan is to audition the new Magico S1, the evolution acoustics mmminione and the YG acoustics Kipod II main module and take it from there.
Cheers,
Sid

I am sure you read the thread about the MMMicroOnes. These were the best speakers I heard in a long long time. And I am being really honest here. If there was no over-marking on their price, I'd have snapped them. I do emphatically suggest you to audition them. They are very very capable speakers. The only reasons I can think of why someone may not like those speakers could be -- Genre preference and System synergy.

I am sure you have spoken to Audire people in past. Why not buzz them and ask for an audition? You might as well save some loose change to spend on cables and sundry items.

Ranjeet if I am not mistaken these have a US retail of $2500. I will definitely audition them if Audire has a pair, but last I heard, availability right now was very tight.

Sid, I have been searching high and low for the "announced" price. No luck.

If you get a quote at US 2.5k (from Audire or else where), book one for me as well please, no confirmation required. The local dealer is asking for a premium, which I am not willing to pay and that's the reason they are still not in my living room.

Ranjeet I was quoting the US MSRP. Not sure what Indian pricing is.

From what I found online on some forums the price was supposedly raised from 2500 to 4000 for the 2nd shipment.

If you can get it for 2500 grab em! I wonder how they'd sound compared against Kef Reference 201/2, the usher be 718 and my own concert 8's :ohyeah: They'll all probably sound very different from each other and eventually boil down to individual preference.

I will keep it short and sweet. They are a great value even as 5 grands. :)

Absolutely, I will buy only upon audition. Anyways my first preference is to check out the Magico's first, when they are available.

Any purchases at those prices be made after careful auditioning as the sound signatures of magico is quite distinct.

Absolutely Marsilians - Not new to Magico sound, heard them in 2-3 different shows in the past few years and have heard the YG acoustics as well. The big issue will be trying to figure out how they will sound in my small room without actually getting them here because other than shelling out moolah, I cannot get them here.

The magico Q1 got some criticism for being excessively clinical and the 1/4th cheaper mmmicro one beating them.

@ corElement, I would take these views (reviews, opinions etc.) with a pinch of salt because at these levels there is more than pure SQ at play. OTOH I have heard a lot of praises for the Q1 from some friends whose ears I trust. As far as one speaker beating the other it is personal preference, just as I am ready to pitch my $6k retail Harbeths against speakers costing double. The proof of the pudding will lie in actual listening with one's own ears (and if possible with one's own equipment & room). I am not sure of others but if I am ready to spend $15k I am not going to rely on anybody's opinion other than my own and consequently I am not even planning to buy anything without listening to it first.
Cheers,
Sid

Yep I agree. Was just putting it out there to there to help add to the confusion. :ohyeah::ohyeah:

Jokes aside I was looking at the Q1. It seems to be quite a thoroughly researched piece of hardware I must say. That amount of RnD is bound to produce something distinct.

check out the internals! Quite interesting!

Isn't the Q1 around 24500 USD a pair? Atleast the MSRP is that. Not sure what it retails at.

Yes ROC approx $26k with stands and used ones sell at $15 to $17k on the 'Gon. Figure if you are buying new in US you can get 10-15% discount. Anyways these are out of my range, so I am very interested in the S1.

Sid

You hit the nail on the head (again):)

Having gone through many upgrades, some purely out of the views/reviews, I've come to conclusion that they need to be taken with not a pinch but a bucket full of salt.

It is time our 'esteemed' members make recommendations from their personal experience than what is 'hear say'
