Hi you need to assign the video in to your HDMI . By deafult Sony avr have only pass through connections for HDMI . For this you need to access the amp menu .Assigning has been given in details in your Amp User Guide !

Also make sure you have connected hdmi to HDMI out from AVR to Plasma.

See your AVR,It may not have SD to HDMI upconversion OR upscaling feature.

Just now I called Sony customer care and they told me that HDMI will work only for Audio not for Video. As per sony HDMI will work only this way if you have Setup box with HDMI option then Setup box>>>AVR>>>Plasma or other way is DVDp with HDMI then DVDp>>>>AVR>>>>Plasma so if you do not have HDMI setup box then you need to give direct video connection from Setup box to TV. My requirement is i want to pass my audio/video through AVR. I do not know whether it is possible on not. illusion please share how to do Amp setup?

Connect your setup box to your plasma tv directly for video using component or composite depending upon your setup box options. I am assuming the setup box does not come with hdmi out.

Use the AVR for the audio part of the setup box.

Hmm then there are two ways of handling this :-

1)do as sud98 tells you . Keeo the avr only for audio with the video connection directly to LCD
2)Or plug in an additional composite cable to the video out of the avr and then run it to your Plasma. You will be routing your video thru avr but If I were you I would go with Pt 1.

My 2.5 year old LCD has at present only one HDMI port. I have connected WD TV and DVDp to the two HDMI ports and plugged in the HDMI out port of AVR to LCD. Working beautifully.

Yours is a case when the signal has to be upconverted which the Sony AVR does not support and hence the problem.

Anyways I was wondering does any LG DV 388 owner has a LCD which supports 1080p thru components ? I think the LG 388 has the capability to send upscaled video through components .

Right now I am using in the same way.

so HDMI will be in this way only DVDp>>>AVR>>>Plasma. right?

hi,
i have LG DV356 model...
i am using component connection to my LG LCD LH50 to watch movies.
But i am unable to play 1080p videos....only audio is heard and the following message is displayed "HD video is not supported"..

The TV supports 1080p, my question is does my dvd player support them ?
or are there any other ways to play 1080p on my TV ?

Please Help:sos:

folks, i bought a Sony DVP NS628P today, ask me any questions you have reg this player.

Things that have gone well as of now :-
-General
-- looks very neat..the build quality is much much better than the lg 388
-- remote is very responsive
-USB
--Quickly reads usb flash drive
--displays large file names
--has played .vob,.dat (did not play initially just renamed it to .vob then it did :ohyeah: ),.avi 800 mb,.mp3
-Disc
--No problems in playing a pirated dvd

Things that have not worked as of now
-The PQ and SQ are in the el cheapo category..nothing exceptional
-It is still not accepting my Seagate 500 gb portable usb hdd. But i think its a format issue...working on it.
-did not play .wmv files

Folks,
This is a very basic player..no hdmi or digital output, i did not need these features anyway. I bought it mainly for its looks, usb and the robust build quality. Also my assumption was it would play audio cds better than lg/samsung but that assumption has turned out to be untrue, its the same.

After reading lots of reviews on hifivision and techtree, etc. finally I bought Philips 3368 yesterday from Maharashtra Gramophone, Nakshtra, Dadar West. I chose this player because -
1. 1080p upscaling (must for my new 42C10 42" Panasonic Plasma)
2. USB 2.0 connectivity
3. Lots of format supported thru USB as well
4. CD ripping to USB
5. 5.1 Analog output in addition to HDMI since currently I don't have an AVR with HDMI in. This is the point where Philips 3368 scored over Pioneer's latest 220KV, Sony's NS728, Samsung and LG.

So far I have immediately tested Angels & Daemons DVD which I recently viewed using my old Samsung DVP172. The picture improvement after 1080p upscaling is clearly visible and after some picture settings adjustments with DVP and Plasma, I able to get a very sharp and detailed image. I also tested a downloaded avi movie on an USB stick. Again the upscaled picture definitely pleases the eyes....:)

Will post further experience after some more testing.
