Budget Plasma LG 42PN4500 review

With the cost of the AMC/warranty the price comes to around 39.5k which is too close to the Samsung 43F4900 which is 41k with 3D and a 2 year warranty.

Can anyone confirm that Samsung offers a 2 year warranty? The official site states a warranty of 1 year. Thanks.

Its a 1 year standard warranty on TV. During the first one year currently there is an option to buy 3 year extended warranty directly from Samsung. Net you would have 4 years warranty. The cost of warranty would be dependent upon your panel size and model.

But Samsung India makes no mention of extended warranty for Plasma TVs on their site iinm. Please correct me if I'm mistaken.

There are some users on the forum who have bought warranty for the 51"f5500 plasma. All you need to do post your purchase is to call the samsung customer care and let them know you want to go for extended warranty. They will guide you and get the concerned people to reach out to you, you can make the payment and the extended warranty certificate will come in 2 to 3 weeks time post that at your home.

This is what i have read and heard from the users who have bought the same.

Hello champs, thanks for this thread.
I bought LG 42PN4500 last month for dot 33k from maharashtra electronics, vimannagar, pune.
Shamelessly bargained but could not reach below 33k as its actual cost is 29k but sold my old crt for 2k...smhw got closer.
Guys pls help me. My plasma will be completing 200 hrs soon with low contrast n brightness as per u said...
Pls tell me the picture settings after the 200hrs as i had to mount my plasma just opposite my large window, cinema mode is good but still there is reflection and standard mode at initial stage was excelent but now its deemed. I can see bit white faces in this low cntrast sttngs.

LG 42PN4500 review

I recently got a 42 inch LG plasma for my living room. My considerations were

1. Budged - 40K
2. Major Use - Soaps and Movies :D
3. Resolution - 720p atleast
4. No smart TV required

I was planning on a 32 inch full HD LED TV when I came across LG/Samsung plasma panels. My god ! The picture quality just blew me away and at that price !! It was unbelievable. After some research I ended up buying the LG model. :clapping::clapping:

TV Features:
1. 1024x768 Resolution
2. 600 Hz refresh rate
3. 3,000,000:1 Contrast ratio
4. No smart tv features

User experience:

Picture quality is stunning given the price I paid. I compared this model with 80K models in showroom side by side and picture quality in both were the same. SD content from DTH looks good since the resolution is only 720 and no pixelation at a viewing distance of 10 feet. 720p content especially movies look awesome.:ohyeah::ohyeah:

Sound is not that great:sad::sad:. You might need extra speakers with good bass. Connectivity options are also limited. Only 1 HDMI and USB port. No PC (15 Pin VGA Port).

All in all, I'm happy :yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:

Guys!!!
Those who have crossed 200-250 hours...
Are you satisfied with the black levels?
Not the uniformity but the actual blacks which appearsvery dark grey when viewed in dark rooms...

Well...I've never got the perfect black. I'm done 200 hours at low settings. Now at best blacks are grey. But when I play a movie, I don't notice the difference.

I would not comment on best blacks are grey as it would be manufacturer and set dependent. I have a 6 year old Samsung Q9 plasma doing duty and i still have blacks as blacks no greys.

Thank you for the information & it is quite useful.
Can anyone tell me how to check the viewing hours in this TV?

Hi Guys

Thanks for providing update/review on 42PN4500. Please help on below points;
1) Does it support 1TB HDD (Seagate)?
2) How to connect 5.1 channel THX certified Home theater speakers?

Thanks

Can anyone confirm about what ports are available at the back panel of the TV.
1. Is there a 3.5 mm headphone jack available.
2. Does the TV support streamcast from nexus devices.
3. Does it have an inbuilt WiFi or the option to get an adapter to connect to wifi (Not sure if a non smart TV needs a WiFi in the first place)

There are some picture available on the first page of this review. On TV box we can see, its said Manufactured by LG India Pvt Ltd, its means its Made in India tv.

Is it make any difference in hardware quality as compare to out of country made LG tvs?

Hi,
This is my first post here. I am a music enthusiast and thats how i came across this forum. There is a wealth of information here on audio/video products & services. Anyways, i dont have a television set for the last 1 yr at home, so thought of getting an entry level LED/plasma. So after going through the forum and also reviews at at other places i finally auditioned the LG 42PN4500 at the Malaika LG store in Mira road.
I saw it both with the store lights fully on and then dimmed and the difference was clear. This plasma seemed better in terms of naturalness of the colours and also seemed brighter than most LEDs with the lights dimmed. The price offered there is 34k. My wife's company has a tie up with the LG guys for some of their products so am hoping to get a better deal through her company.
Will post picks once i buy the tv and also do a review.

over phone none of the dealer will respond, you will be asked to come over to showroom even to get price confirmation which is bit problematic due to the 80 km distance
thanks, will take a chance with Vasanth & Co surely through some means..
