Budget Plasma LG 42PN4500 review

guys someone mentioned USB playback is poor on this model. Can some one elaborate more on USB aspect. Will be able to play blue ray movies copied in external USB hard disk ? How about 720p movies copied in pen drive, which formats are supported ?

I heard power consumption is more in plasmas. For daily usage of 2,3 hours will there be noticeable difference ?

My 42" plasma ran 16-17 hrs everyday for 6-7 months and I didn't notice any major difference in monthly bill. I'm using 50" LED now and still nothing major. It all depends on the settings, mine was pretty low.

I was assuming this model to have 1080P resulution but it seems its only 720P. Could anyone please let me know is there major difference in the sharpness at normal sitting position (say 5 feets) for normal TV watching using Videocon HD set top box(which I assume isn't full HD anyway). I am not gonna play too many blue ray full HD movies.

Panasonic left their plasma business so forget about Panasonic plasma. You can get 42S60 which is superior model and will cost you more than this LG. In this range, you might find 42X60 which is latest too and is not full HD.

Hi,
If Budget is not an issue, which is an better option - PQ wise and Brand Value/Customer Service - LG 42PN4500 or Samsung 43F4900 ?
Samsung has the 3D option, which is of no value to us as I am buying this for my Parents who are mostly interested in watching Cable TV/Dish...

Thanks AnubisX. Got the LG42PN4500 for Rs 33.5k from Reliance. They also offered 2Yrs extended warranty which covers everything except physical damage for Rs 5000 total. This is on top of 1 Yr manufacturer warranty.

Which city are you from? Your offer is incredible. I got a final quote of 35890 from Reliance Axis Mall kolkata. They also said that the extended warranty is provided by Reliance digital technicians only and not from Lg. How safe is reliance digital? FMs please provide your feedbacks

Bought the TV for 33k.Also bought sound bar Philips DSP475U for just 3k from Vijay Sales. Was worried about break in,so searched on net and found that its just myth and there is no logical explanation to run on low contrast, low brightness. So just enjoying the TV on factory settings :) So far loving it ! Couple of time saw image retention, but I think it should be fine over the period of time.

Update : I am unable to connect sound bar (DSP475U) which has 2 input methods(RCA and 3.5mm).Seems like PN4500 does not have RCA audio in.Manual of PN4500 says to connect sound bar, coaxial cable is needed. But the sound bar does not have coaxial cable connection. Can anyone help ?

what?? 'Break-in' is a myth???
for me, till now i believed that break-in period of 100-200hrs for any new plasma is must needed. anyhow i would once again remind you to check this yourself to avoid regret in future. also i would request FMs experts here spot a light on this matter.

and regarding your soundbar, i think you could use 'converter' like this easily available in any local/online electronic store.
Digital Optical Coaxial Toslink Signal to Analog Audio Converter Adapter RCA DAC | eBay

Congrats for the new tv!!! :)

Congrats for the new tv!!! :)

Thanks :)

Yeah the converter is one option, but I feel sound quality may degrade due to DAC. Other options seems to be to connect sound bar directly to set top box (RCA).

BTW what settings do you used during 'break in' ? Though I feel its myth, could try just for safety sake :D If those settings gonna hinder the viewing enjoyment, I might skip it :ohyeah:

congratulations :D
I always stop for plasma bcoz of power consumption almost double of LED.

Thanks.

My research suggest for 42 inch plasma, power consumption is not double, rather is approx 20 percent more than equivalent sized LED.

Thanks :)

Connecting to STB is a good idea. you can also bring a converter and check the quality of both for yourself.

About break-in settings and detailed information/discussion from our FMs is in this thread started by one of our senior FM 'just4kix'.

If you have not seen this thread I would suggest you to read all of them. even if you don't want to use them, knowing them nothing harms you. atleast you can get benefit of other things.

IMO we should keep these information (regarding power consumption) for information sake only, not to be included in decision making of purchase. it won't make much difference in the long run looking at the price difference between led & plasma. this is what i think so... ;)

Ok I finally purchased the plasma tv for 32,210/- from vijay sales.

Actually bought it for 33k along with an HDMI cable worth 790/- but since the cable was not compatible and they didnt have HDMI1.4, i got 790/- back from them.

Happy with the TV so far, got a videocon DTH connection and have connected it USB pen Drive to watch a couple of movies so far.

Thanks once again to everyone in helping take the decision.
