Budget Plasma LG 42PN4500 review

Thanks PRGK13 and yes, it is the LG 42PN4500.

The PQ is fine. The Videocon HD channels look good.

The 720P videos played out through the pen drive look equally good but am not satisfied with the 720p play out through my Laptop via HDMI.

Maybe my laptop is old but the same videos on the laptop screen look ok.

Will try a few more setting maybe change the refresh rate on the laptop.

The SQ is average

I had come across a detailed online guide for the best settings to connect the laptop to the TV screen via HDMI but cant find it anymore.

Will try it this weekend. Overall i would say that its been a good buy.

I recently bought the TV. I am using Videocon D2h HD. Often I see random string of letters in black appears on the screen. Is that the problem with TV ?

First of all I would like to thank you all for contributing to this thread.I have zeroed in on this beast and will be making my purchase soon.

The best price I got yet is 33k from Flipkart.My query is will LG honor warranty if its taken from flipkart as warranty card needs stamp of the showroom if I am not wrong ?

Also most of the time it will be used for watching hindi entertainment channels, so can we eliminate the black bars somehow, I am using a Airtel DTH connection.

Also when people say that static image should not be displayed for long time.What is the maximum safe time for such static image, wont the DTH logo cause Image Burn In or the ISM Orbiter function takes care of it.

Also members who have purchased this tv last year, how is it performing, any issues with the tv yet ?

Flipkart is offering LG PN4500 42 incher at Rs 32,144 and if you have a ICICI, HDFC cards, there is cash back offer of Rs 3,500 in certain EMI schemes on other TVs. For the present TVs are being sold in Mumbai, Bangalore and New Delhi only.

If you happen to purchase it from Flipkart, the Invoice from Flipkart with the Product serial number will serve as the stamp of dealer...LG will honour the warranty... If you are still doubtful, plz call up LG customer care & chck if they will honour warranty if you purchased from Flipkart....

Am sure you wouldn't be watching any channel cont for more than 3 Hrs @ a stretch... THere are commercial breaks (or) you would swap channels inbetween for 5 - 10 mins... So that is more than enough to avoid retention...

I had purchased extended warranty for my Sony 46 LCD for Rs 7,500/-.. The condition was to purchase the extended warranty before the standard warranty of 1 yr expires....

May be the information is not correct.....You can purchase extended warranty before the standard warranty expires... Kindly re-check with LG Customer care..

The person who came for the installation had a pricelist from which he told me the rates
After 30 days of purchase the amount is approx rs 10000 plus tax

Cost for warranty is depended on the price of the TV set. The higher the cost of TV, warranty cost will be go up accordingly.. This is the case with Sony & Samsung.. So should hold true for LG as well..

Now it brings to the same question I asked earlier.
Is it worth spending approx rs 6000 for warranty on a panel which costed rs 32000?

Is everything is actually covered except for physical damage in this extended warranty?

The coverage of extended warranty is exactly same as the initial 1 year warranty.

Now the proportionate cost in your case does seem high, however the concern can be offset by peace of mind that comes with it. God forbid if your panel conks off, then its gonna cost you a lot more than 6k.. So better to take the warranty.. Also ensure that this is a Manufacturer warranty & not dealer's..

Keep in mind that it is not extended warranty but Annual Maintenance Contract.I had a talk with their Support team and they clearly told that it shall only cover servicing and if any replacement of part is required then it will be on chargeable basis.

If that is the case there is no point even spending 6000 bucks simply because in a tv there is no need for servicing. If for some reason there is a malfunction a a part replacement is needed

Later on I too called lg customer care and as the technician who had come to install the tv, I was told parts will be replaced/repaired for free for 1 + 3 years
I insisted that I need confirmation on this. On that the rep talked to his senior and told me that service would be free, and I JUST have to pay for replacement parts

hi , is this tv suffering from bad screen uniformity ? while playing white break-in slide, i can see hint of purple and pink haze around the frame . those who have this tv please tell me if this is normal or not. thank you

I have read all your reviews for LG 42PN4500 HD Plasma TV. Every review was very helpful and I am thankful to each one of you for your time and your review.

I would like to see more and more picture in all angles (front, side, back)....can any of you post the pictures (if possible, also, please forward pictures to my personal email id "[email protected]" - Thank you so much in advance).

Also, I read some of the reviews that this Plasma TV is not supporting some videos and JPG (Not JPEG) - Please confirm.

And, can you all please share if you are facing any issues or any problems with the performance of this LG 42PN4500 HD Plasma TV.
