Behalf Of Mr.Harish Reddy, I am posting his writeup on the chennai hifi meet:) Hope Captain will prepare his view and post by end of this week due to his Laptop Crash.

Chennai hifi audio meet Summary Write up by Harish reddy

29th January 2012, 9 am onwards @ hotel Gautham manor, Nungambakkam High road, Chennai

Chennai witnessed a small audiophile meet, rather a get together to know each other. The meet was presided by Mr David santwan of orange pale.

Products were displayed from Norge, Sonodyne, Yamaha, Acoustic portrait and Genelec. They were represented by respective manufacturers/ dealers.

The first Session kicked of playing Ben webster stardust track on norge products. The listening impressions were that music was sweet and open airy. Especially the Norge bookshelf's were good. Their integrated amp's were value for money in common man's world. Then Sonodyne bookshelf speakers were played and it sounded far below the Norge. Most of the audiophile present there agreed Norge is better VFM. The brand was represented by Mr Praveen and Ramakanth Of M/s Vipul Audio Tech, Chennai

The second session was taken over by M/s Corrson , Banglore- Acoustic portrait, and a small introductory speech was given by Mrs.Jaya the brand promoter. Kicking of the demo Mr.Shiva had emotions in explaining the product and shared how Acc.Portrait was created and how it is moving by the pulse of an Audiophile, We have heard few tracks on the system, the classical music is what i liked sounded more natural and the Illayaraja song played was breath taking crisp and clean..Mr shiva explained that every product were tweaked by him to suit the audiophile taste and every system going out his hands goes with tweaks than the other one, but we hope soon they reach and grow in mass market to make their product affordable for an starter,

The lunch break session with some good food served thanks to Capt for organizing a simple menu but a very tasty and effective napping menu. During this break all attendees were at leisure discussing the the demos, pro's and con's.

Immediately after lunch break, there was a DAC, cables comparison session. Unfortunately when the media server was getting hooked there was this Chennai's unpredicted power surge twice in succession which crashed the boot file of media server, due to this reason DAC comparison was not possible.

Third session was taken over by M/s Genelec active. Mr Clifford had come down from Mumbai to give exposure to his product. He briefly introduced his product and explained about active DSP technology and the future of active loudspeakers. He had got this new DSP active system model being 8250A. The hook up was jiffy, a mic was attached to a controller in turn to genelec software on Laptop and calibration was done, it hardly took 3 minutes for entire setup. Music was played from foobar to a external sound card MOTU to speakers the path was digital. the moment i heard the sound got glued to active topology. The track from Ben webster was playing and i could make the differences between the instruments between a passive and active system. The music was more precise, controlled and heart touching. A active setup is a big setback when in comparison with passive, the entire chain of high end amps, snake oil cables can be eliminated. The audiophiles might not like the theory of active dsp technology, as they have been bitten by traditional analogue stereo, but the future is active DSP.

Last session towards the end Mr David & Mr.Roshan , beam steering speakers were demoed. This technology is first of kind in world and he is the pioneer and brain behind its manufacture and design. The entire loudspeaker can be controlled over his software his products main application is of pro audio industry. The model displayed was LAD 16, meaning 16 drivers in active beam array which can be controlled individually. Each driver has capability to control the directive of sound and its beam like a torch.this product is definitely a revolution and we Indian's can be proud to be part of technology.

Finally the show comes to an end with a photo session without few members who left early due to prior commitment, each participant took back memories and knowledge from this meet, it was a great get together and meeting fellow audio freak's.

We Audiophiles thank Mr Praveen, Mr Shiva kumar, Mr Clifford and Mr David for taking part in this meet and giving us exposure to various audio gizmo's.

Guys, a good news. Acoustic Portrait has offered to sponsor the travel of willing audiophiles by a minibus to Bangalore to listen to his setup. We can start on a Sunday morning and return by evening. I can organise parking at a central location for the vehicles. Do PM your willingness to attend the session.

Unfortunately, my laptop crashed and no net connectivity was available in my office for the past three days.

Just got it back.:yahoo:

Note: Preference will be given to those who have attended that last meet.

That is very nice offer by Siva:clapping:.

Chennai members: I listened to Siva's system ~2 years ago and it was an amazing experience. You can very well relate to what he spoke at the meet if you audition his system. Do try and avail this opportunity.

Yes!!! Capt / Santhosh,

It is so nice to know Mr.Siva is impressed with chennai audiophile group and their interest. As he keep telling in the meet that we can hear and experience the realistic music at his place. As he strongly indicated he can show night and day difference in flac and CD in his system in an controlled room.

Let us grab this opportunity to visit a like minded audiophile and to know more about his music journey and his products.:)

Acoustic-Portrait/ Geneleac,

What is the price range for the entire setups displayed, that we are talking of here? Any idea?

Sonodyne was never my cup of tea. Everytime I heard them, the thought only got stronger.

@Srini, I think we are ear buddies. :D
Jamo, MusicHall, Norge love and now the sonodyne hate.. :D ;)

I express the same feeling here. Everytime I could easily make out that sonodyne were not upto the mark (bookshelf as well as the floorstander).
