Chennai hfv meet- 29th january 2012

Great to know that the meet was a success. Unfortunately had to drop out due to some family function. Seems like a huge effort on the part of Capt.Rajesh and others. Kudos to them for organizing the event

Hi all,

It was a wonderful & excellent meet, thanks to the organizers. The performance of the AP Pre & Power with their DAC left everyone spell bound, especially me when listening to the Ilaiyaraaja number, I could feel the orchestra playing inside the room with precise placement of instruments and an excellent soundstage. :licklips:

The demo of the Norge and Sonodyne speakers was good, along with Yamaha gear. Thanks to M/s Praveen and Ramakant of Vipul-Audio-Tech.
The demo of Genelec Active Monitors was really good and its ability to play according to the room acoustics was astonishing. :yahoo:

I am feeling the urge to upgrade to a Tube pre with SS power after this meet. :licklips:

To sum up the event , the demo of Orange Pale LAD 16 Networked Digital Line Arrays by Mr.David & Rosh was very exciting and the whole system was very advanced. We wish them all success in their future endeavours.

Nice to meet Santhosh, Hifipal4all(Ramesh) Kuruvillajacob,Bottle, mohdnaseer, redd, Kannan, and all others from Chennai & Bangalore.

I request the organizers and all Chennai members to co-ordinate and arrange such meet at least once in 3 months if not atleast 6 months.

The venue was good so was the food. Overall it was a very engaging and a very useful and informative day for all the Audiophiles who made it for the meet.

Last but not the least thanks for Capt for uploading the pics.

@murali_n thanks for the Ilayaraja number ripped from Vinyl. That sounded awesome.

Norge was indeed the best VFM product in the meet.

Siva showed whole new dimension of music listening.."The Dynamics". Hats off to Acoustic Portrait.

We covered a lot and we couldn't cover a lot. We couldn't do the cable and DAC comparisons much. So, we have the agenda for the next meet ready :P

Thanks to Capt. Rajesh/Srini/Harish for initiating & organizing this informative audio meet.

Enjoyed the entry-level/mid-segment gears from Norge, Sonodyne & Yamaha, analogue & natural sound from the Acoustic Portraits, studio quality sound from Genelac Active speakers & finally a unique & a fantastic software based pro-audio gear. Thanks to Ramakanth/Shiva/Clifford/David-Roshan-Harish for giving this exposure to the attendees.

It was a pleasure to meet and interact with Chennai music enthusiasts in person. Hope this kind of meet happens at least quarterly.

Cheers :) Ramesh @ Bangalore

It was a well-chosen venue, with a good lunch too. Thanks again to Capt Rajesh and co for making it happen and shepherding it through the day.

I could happily live with choices from any part of the day, notwithstanding that Acoustic Portraits and Genelec were my personal highs.

You are right we couldn't do the Cable and DAC comparison and we are forced to conduct another audiophile meet ( not videophile) which is a good sign for next meet. We are overdosed with music by 4 supporters Vipul Audio Tech ^ Acoustic Portrait ^ Genelec ^ Orange Pale.

I felt we could have saved some time by advancing the demonstration of Genelec Speakers & Beam steering speakers. Due to prior commitments part members have left early and some members were over dosed at the end of the session could not enjoy the Genelec / Beam steering speakers . At least to utilize the full potential of Mr.David & Mr.Roshan expertise we should meet another day.

:p:p^^^^^ Please next time some regional audiophile songs only ^^^^^:p:p

Hope to meet all in next meet soon.:)

Hi srini,

I suggest that in one of our future meets, some Vinyl based demo can also be done with comparison of Belt drive vs Direct drive, MM vs MC Cartridge, various budget and mid-priced cartridges and also new generation TTs from Project, Rega etc compared to Vintage TT from Technics, Kenwood etc.

Will be very useful for those, who plan to go Vinyl(and Bankrupt). We can arrange a "Vinyl for Dummies" session by our Chennai member Mr.Rajiv, who is the Vinyl guru in our forum. :clapping:

Murali Sir, it was a real pleasure meeting you after all those conversations over phone.

The Beam Steering Speaker concept seems to be very interesting. Too bad I could not stay until later to learn more about them :(.

Here are some pics guys, more would follow: -
Thanks for sharing the pics Captain. Could you or someone list the members in the pics?

Hi all,

It was a pleasure meeting you santhosh and the recording of Spanish Harlem by Eva Cassidy brought by you ,is still ringing in my ears, and appending my previous posts I suggest than in future meets we should have a music only session featuring favourite artists/ band/numbers from each member so that we get to expand our listening tastes and genres.

It was interesting to interact with Thad, his profound liking for Carnatic music and his vast knowledge of the artists.

He commented after listening to "Take Five" by Dave Brubeck that it is kandachapu Thalam in modern avatar.

I am a total noob when it comes to Vinly/turntable. It would indeed be a great experience to understand that technology and also listen to them. Hope we can all catch up soon and get a chance to listen and compare the pure analogue & digital mediums.
Also a detailed session on the cable/DAC and its importance in the setup.

I feel next time we should have an audio session on vinyls and related equipment with active participation of murali-n and rajiv with their TT equipments.
