Fans of Television Series

btw forgot to mention

game of thrones ( absolutely loved it )

waiting for season 4 paitiently :P

Season 3 was nowhere as good as the first 2, failed to captivate in my opinion.
And just when I thought Emilia Clarke (Mother of Dragons :D) had finally learned to act she proves me wrong so emphatically in the final episode that I almost gasped for air.
Also I do not take kindly to the fact that almost all the characters that made me love the series....well, you get the point, I am talking of the penultimate episode which lives up to GOT's reputation for the 9th episode. Do not wish to spoil it for those who have not watched it so am not giving anything else away.
But then it is Mr. George R R Martin who wrote the series and according to him 'The Red Wedding' has lost him bands of readers over the years and also gained him zillions more. Having ranted till now I will say this that I appreciate the fact that GOT is different from the typical fanfare and 'victory of good over evil' stuff, the triumphant climax with justice for the protagonist does not find much wind in its sails here..., phew it is hard to digest but if you get hooked you will keep on watching.

Sherlock is simply amazing, no other way to describe it. Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat are legends.

After watching 5 straight forward seasons of 'Dexter', I was desperate to start with the 6th Season; but then my Bluray player got some problem in playing season 6 disc and we friends thought...let's take a break from serial killing.
Moreover, my friend started getting nightmares as a side effect of watching Dexter...And I got afraid he might kill me some day, so we stopped watching Dexter ;)
Similarly, it was fun to watch the 3rd season of Game of Thrones and 9th episode of 3rd season is the most talked and never forgotten episode of the show.

Meanwhile, I was looking for some new series to watch, thought of watching Fringe, True Blood, Sons of Anarchy; but due to their long running seasons and lack of overlapping time in the evening between me and my friend, I thought why not take a newly started show, which would have few episodes and we'll be forced not to watch it further until next year.
Here I go. I searched online and picked up a very nice action packed, story & character driven show BANSHEE ...
We watched the pilot and it was slow but nice start and after watching 2nd episode, there was no stopping till the 10th & final episode of its very first Season.
Despite being lots of familiar elements with earlier shows, this proved quite addictive show. Can't say much as I am really not a good reviewer at all.
This is the link that made me thought of watching Banshee.

The other new shows in pipeline are...
- The Americans, which has got lots of critical acclaim. This show is setup in Cold War era in early 80's.
- Just to try a new genre that I haven't touched yet about which I have always been skeptical, I'm gonna give a try to Hannibal.

Banshee seems interesting, ........... I will give it a shot....thanks for sharing ....

Have you watched The Fall (2013)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2294189/?ref_=sr_1

A psychological thriller that examines the lives of two hunters. One is a serial killer who stalks his victims in and around Belfast and the other is a talented female Detective Superintendent from the MET who is brought in to catch him

I completely agree with the review that "The Fall far more realistic than films and shows built on gore-drenched scenes filled with breaking bodies, and far scarier too."

ROFL :ohyeah: I am laughing my guts out here. :clapping:

Well, i have been watching 'The Tudors' these days. It is a nice period drama, based on the real events surrounding King Henry VIII of England. Also, it captures the transformation of a catholic nation to the lutheran ideology. Keeps you glued.

I recently watched all the episodes of House of Cards, which is based on an earlier British series. Its a Netflix produced series.

Kevin Spacey acts as a US politician( House Majority Leader), in the US congress. He is a scheming, manipulating politician, and is outstanding. His wife is played by Robin Wright, who also acts well, as an ambitious wife. The story is entertaining and the casting is superb- Kate Mara acts as an young ambitious unscrupulous news reporter, and plays the part to perfection. The way politicians act, and behave, scheme and lie, promise and backstab is all exposed well. The dialogue is also very good.

I havent read reviews but it was highly addictive and both my wife and I watched 3-4 episodes each day! I understand Season 2 is going to start soon.

Even I heard from one of my friend that "house of cards" is good - good politics, But I also heard "breaking bad" is also very good series. Yet to start, just now started - The walking dead.

Where I can find "Mind Your Language" series 1-4 dvd/ bluray in India? Flipkart says its out of stock.

After finishing 6 seasons of X-Files and the first 3 episodes of Season 7, I got bored and started on GoT recently.

Now that you have finished all 3 seasons of GoT, do you consider it among your favorite series?

I would say, GoT is great...but NO, it's not my favorite...
My all time favorite (of all the shows I have watched so far) is Breaking Bad... Yo B**** !!

For me, favorite means, I can tune on in anytime-anywhere and never get bored. Game of Thrones is not that kinda show for me. For watching GoT, I need to get into mood of watching a complex drama with full concentration. But yes, I have loved watching this show as well and I ill keep on watching it further and whenever there is a mood, I will revisit the show's old episodes as well :)

I have the same feeling about GoT (in Sixth episode of first season). While I find the production grand and rich and do want to know what happens next, I am not as hooked as I was to 'The Wire' or 'Breaking Bad' or even 'Justified'! It's still missing the "it" factor as of now. Will give it time to see if I start loving it!

Waiting for the last 8 episodes of 'Breaking Bad' :)

Update: After finishing the first season, consider me intrigued. No spoiler tags here on HFV, is it? This is in a more familiar territory now - To be drawn towards power, be drunk with power, politics, back stabbing, strategies. So far, I liked the progression of a few characters - Daenerys from a timid girl to a confident queen. But my favorite so far has been Tyrion Lannister. Peter Dinklage is brilliant - short in stature, tall in performance. Hope S2 and S3 keep up the tempo.

I just finished watching GoT and I'm very impatient about season 4!

esanthosh , seasons 2 and 3 should satisfy you with Daenerys progress. Dinklage is awesome, this is true. I don't really like the Starks, though, really. I know they are supposed to be important role-model figures but all of them are just losing this Game!

A...
Now that you have finished all 3 seasons of GoT, do you consider it among your favorite series?

It is my favourite of all the mini-series.

Other than the really high production values and the art direction, the intricacy of the story and the multitude of characters, (which many consider to be the achilles heel of this series is exactly what) has me hooked. It is no mean task to build so many characters, and make the audience like a few, hate a few, and then make the audience change their minds about this later.

I wish that the same team (or a team as good) would take up a similarly detailed treatment of the Mahabharata and the Ramayana. That would truly a feast for all the senses!

With Breaking Bad, I binge-watched Seasons 1 to 5 over about 2 weeks, and from the beginning of the 5th season, all I could think of was that they needed to end it, and fast. I did watch the entire 5th season though! And I am waiting for the last half of the 5th season to be aired soon, so that there is some resolution to it all! :)
