Fans of Television Series

Vikings (TV Series 2013 ) - IMDb - Completed season 1 of Vikings. Highly entertaining, good fun, enjoyable and definitely recommended.

Some graphical violence... especially the viking variety where men prefer to die on the battlefield, but it also gives a good account of the early vikings who traveled far for glory/plunder and attacked the British and the French. Good stuff and season 2 starts in February.

I am addicted to Banshee. I sometimes wake up with the theme playing in my head. I only hate the horrible seven day wait between my fixes :p

Rome, whatever be the historical inaccuracies / deviations, is a fantastic series. I am half way into the second season. The second season, may be because it was originally planned for five seasons but BBC could not afford to spend, feels a bit rushed with so much story crammed into each episode. But, the characters are very interesting. The way they switch allegiances based on the current power structure is not much different from what happens today in politics. I think Atia of the Julii would have been an effective politician even today ;).

Despite the crappy writing that plagued much of the Season 7 of X-files, I am determined to see it through. That season, due to it's parody style in the latter half, made even Dexter's descent look much better. Gillian Anderson's "All things" will forever be etched in my memory as the worst TV episode I ever had to sit through. Duchovny's 'Hollywood A.D' was funny though. In the eighth season, many long time fans deserted the show along with Fox Mulder. But, after the initial two episodes, I don't think it's that terrible, though it doesn't quite match up to the earlier season's standards.

The inconsistency in the plot and characters is jaw dropping. As Adrian Monk would say "It's both a gift and a curse". You do not have to remember anything to watch an episode of X-files at any point of time since most are stand-alone episodes. On the other, Scully, a skeptic, goes through a few life changing experiences which should have altered her perceptions - at least make her open to the possibilities. But in the very next episode, she becomes inexplicably reset to being a skeptic. After seven seasons of skepticism, she suddenly switches to playing 'Spooky Scully', while Robert Patrick takes over the part of 'Scully' in Season 8. Yikes! But hey! It did gave us Vince Gilligan and Bryan Cranston was chosen to play Walter White because they worked together in a sixth season episode. So, it's all good in the end! :)

+1 to Banshee... season 2 really got off to a high in the 2nd episode (one of the best really) and it only keeps getting better.

Agree about the 7 day wait... cannot wait for Saturday morning so I can catch the latest episode.

After reading so many praise for Banshee ... I must say I am completely bold out after watching the Pilot episode. Can't wait much to finish season 01 in a jiffy.

Given the adult nature of the series I believe watching it on HBO Defined would not be as good an experience, its just my thought.

Also just finished Breaking Bad and going through True Detective. Both are class in there own genre. I am a regular on Netflix now so suggest me something "glue-e"

Purely based on addictiveness... meaning I can (and did) marathon sessions of these serials... basically started them and finished them without deviating to other serials or movies... probably would have bunked office if I attended regular office (which thankfully I don't). Only thing more addictive than these serials was gaming on my PC and PS3, but that's another story for another day.

Six Feet Under (TV Series 20012005) - IMDb

PS - The Originals (spin off from The Vampire Diaries) is also addictive but its only in season 1 and of course Banshee... too bad no marathon sessions for them.

Finished Rome last night. Most of the series drag from time to time, but you can never say that about Rome. It was already quite good in the first season, but cramming 4 seasons worth of story lines into 10 episodes in the second season made it travel at warp speed. There was so much happening across all parallel story lines that it is hard to remember what happened in each episode. It's quite a feat to pull(o) that off.

Two Boyd GIFs to wrap this post ;) (Source)

Ray Donovan (TV Series 2013 ) - IMDb - Finished season 1. Liev Schreiber is perfect as Ray Donovan, a professional fixer for celebrities in Hollywood. His family problems are however another matter. Jon Voight is brilliant as Mickey Donovan, and can be the only reason one needs to watch this show. Throw in James Woods, Elliott Gould and it only gets better.

Will not reveal the story but would like to mention this is not simply a vehicle for Hollywood stars making their television debut. Also, its entertaining and will be to everybody's liking unlike other superstar series like say True Detective that have limited appeal (let me hasten to say I like it but cannot imagine my wife or parents having the patience to sit through it... they will take Arrow any day).

Coming back to Ray Donovan, excellent and highly recommended. Watch it for a good/gripping storyline and some excellent performances.

Sold on Justified!
I suppose because perhaps us guys crave to carry that swagger and innate instinct of risk-taking, we await that near fatal stand off in the end to come back from it a triumphant hero. All the while our masculinity being stoked by the 'morality' of the premise, that we stay on the lines of justice and bring those to book who veer away from it. Almost Bruce Wayne-esque but rooted more in humble reality, add the palpable vulnerability (both physical and emotional) of the protagonist and it almost feels like I am the one talking about my side-arm and 'I pull it to kill'.
Wow, a show that shows you in such light....how can men not love it?
Absolutely amazing, and I have only watched the pilot!

Hi,
I am just watching a few police or crime shows like 24,Justified,Luther,Endevour,The Glades,L&O and Jack Taylor to name a few. Want to move on to other genres too.But cant watch romcoms or family dramas.Any suggestions? But they have to be on either Netflix or amazon prime.Bought a Roku 3 recently and loving it.Recently there was a software upgrade to my LG led TV and the tv now passes on dolby sound to my AVR.So its great watching these shows in HD and 5.1.

Right now have subscriptions to Netflix and amazon prime. Is it worthwile to move onto hulu plus?
One more thing.... Can u guys share where and how u watch these shows? Want to watch Homeland and Rome, but can't afford to pay for each and every episode on amazon.
Thanks and Cheers,
sri

Hulu Plus is as crap as it can be, atleast in my experience ,,,,, you can give it a try, free sub is availabe ....... Netflix is the best as far as online streaming content goes. Plus the ability to share account with profile is really worthwhile....

That last episode of Banshee? Only style, little to no substance with most of the cast missing. In a regular episode, the whole thing would have fitted in 20 minutes with much less emo-drama and story would have progressed. What happened to these guys? Hope they do not continue making such episodes.

The Good Wife - Season 5 ........... just finished season 5 of the good wife. When I was about 3,4 episode in, I seriously realised how good this show was and boy what I was missing, If I have to put my all time fav 5 TV series, The good wife will be in it. Infact the pace at which the multiple plots move in this TV series, would be in top two I guess. Another court room drama that I remember had a neck breaking pace was SHARK ....... The ending is in no way a season ending and is open to a lot of plot speculation. Will eagerly look forward to the Season 6 for the same. Love The good wife.

On to Banshee now I guess ... :D

I have the exact same setup (but in the US). Roku, Netflix, and Prime.

OT: I saw Ender's Game in Prime yesterday. Nice movie.

+1 to Sam's suggestion of the Good Wife. Very very good. I'm in season 3 (i think).

If you want something very different from all this - and yes, all the crime and lawyers and violence can get a bit monotonous.

Try Fringe for a decent take on parallel universes and science fiction. It runs too long in the end - but definitely worth watching a few seasons at least. It is available on Netflix.

BANSHEE .... ok so finally started with Banshee, frankly, very frankly, the first episode we kinda just okie ..... but I am seriously hoping it would pick up quickly in the later episodes ........

Guys what made you like Banshee so much finished 2 more episodes, its very formulatic, xcon turned cop, a small town with x cons girlfriend. Towns got a problem (with a typical bad guy who deals all his problems with brutal punishment) , x cons girl friends daughter got problems, the police has it own problem, and all solution is with our one man X con as he is some tough guy helping and rectifying all situation on its own assuming the identity which is made like a walk in the park ;; ...... bhaaa !!! Boring ... ..... all situations are so very clichd ........The action combact fights are also so slow and boring

Not sure if I gonna continue ..... sorry for now Banshee isnt working for me. Wondering how its like 8.3 on IMDB
