Fans of Television Series

Copying Musicbee's format, hope he doesnt mind.

Currently Watching :

Once Upon a Time - Though the concept is childish but the execution is good. Its about Fairytale characters being imprisoned without their knowledge in a US town by a evil queen wherein the characters do not have any memory of their previous lives just faint similarities in the kind of lives they live AND a savior.

True Detective - Cant recommend this enough, though only if you are a fan of drama more than action. Anyone remember/watched twin peaks?, they will be at home here. For me its Matthew McConaughey's finest piece of acting. Rest of the star cast does a very good job as well. Unlike other crime drama's wherein each episode is about solving a crime, here we have a entire season for solving, giving audience, I believe a glimpse of how Detectives actually solve a crime. Only in its 5th episode pace has been picking up for the last 2 episodes in my opinion. Not to be missed.

Sherlock - Finest adaptation of the work of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Though Season 3 is disappointing IMHO. Much better than the movies and the US show Elementary.

Elementary - As a crime drama its good just that the characters should not have been named Sherlock and Watson. Its an absolute shame of a adaptation but if you can ignore that fact and watch it as a standalone crime drama then its a decent watch.

Arrow - Good show if you are familiar with DC's comic books. I find it irritating in parts due to its fascination in exploring drama more than action.

Marvel's Agent of Shield - There was much scope to tie the series with the Thor movie but apart from that complaint its a decent sci-fi show set in the present day.

Almost Human - Decent show for fans of sci-fi and crime drama.

Try Grimm . It's onto season 3. While 1 was a bit childish it started getting really good from season 2

Watching Banshee season 1. It is good. But Life on Mars is better (IMHO of course). I am watching the BBC version.

Life on Mars is really very good, Banshee is no way near it ...... With Banshee going down in drain for me, I am kinda at short of a decent TV series. I wont start Almost Human or The walking Dead till I have atleast 10 episodes.

Hmm.... some recommendations from me.

Started House of Cards... its really good, Kevin Spacey is deliciously bad and brilliant and worth watching for alone. Throw in Kate Mara and its even better.

Fringe - I think I have finally found something that equals X-Files... loved X-Files and never found anything to be near it in that genre.

True Blood - Have only watched the first episode... but it has its raving fans so I'm guessing it will be good.

PS - Still cannot fathom why you did not like Banshee... what's there not to like with all those naked bodies, hot sex and violence?

May be they were not his type ;)

I finished binge watching HoC S2 past weekend. This is one advantage of HoC. Since all episodes are immediately available, most tend to binge-watch and not stop and over-analyze.

Liked: Odds were stacked against the Underwoods more often compared to S1.

Not so much: Kevin Spacey's 'manipulative voice' was too prominent in most of the episodes. It works well as a contrast, not when it is "On" 90% of the time.

Interesting. I had the exact opposite opinion of Sherlock vs Elementary. Especially season 3 of Sherlock is suxh a let down. And Elementary is such a refreshingly different take on this much analyzed subject.

Then again, I like writers and directors who go really bold and creative. I also thought they kept the core sanctitiy intact. You still see the dark side, albeit to a lesser extent, and you still see the inner turmoil. Besides all the crime solving of course! And I do think the quality of the plot lines is about as good as the original.

:D. My problems with Elementary are as follows :

i) 221b Baker Street has always been home of Sherlock Holmes.
ii) Watson shown as a lady.

I can nodoubt ignore these first two points. But there are some more aspects like below which are completely unacceptable.

iii) Sherlock shown as completely lost himself in Drugs, whereas ofcourse Sherlock had a drug problem but never in the stories has he ever lost control of himself or his faculties.
iv) Watson solving crimes and almost about equal to Sherlock. In the books Sherlock simply is of a different caliber, although he tells watson his way of deduction however Watson was never able to make the same deduction as Sherlock and in turn was never able to help Sherlock to solve crimes.

Now if you have been an avid fan of the books then you will realise how close the series Sherlock is to the books, they have not changed much background of Sherlock and Watson. Sherlock's unique deduction skills have been shown perfectly. His eccentricities and behavior pattern IMO is similar to what you will picturise when reading the books.

I can talk a lot more but I guess I have given you a gist. Though its ofcourse all my personal views.

Should you like Banshee because there are rabid fans in this thread?

Inverting the question - Should I absolutely, unquestionably love Homeland because you do? Or should I will stop reading your posts because you did not like Game of Thrones?

They are all just plain .... opinions and everyone has two (or few) of them - in different mood settings ;). Since I am a anonymous nobody on the internet, may be I should quote someone respectable.

Books are almost as individual as friends. There is no earthly use in laying down general laws about them. Some meet the needs of one person, and some of another; and each person should beware of the booklovers besetting sin, of what Mr. Edgar Allan Poe calls the mad pride of intellectuality, taking the shape of arrogant pity for the man who does not like the same kind of books.

- Theodore Roosevelt

And one more opinion - Though it may be (much) slower than you are used to, check out True Detective once this season is done.

Golden words esantosh, I actually felt a bit awkward for not liking Banshee ... :D ... But your posts puts my edginess on rest .. :)

Yes I am looking forward to True Detective, looks promising, I am also waiting for Almost Human to have all of its season 1 episodes, its 12 episodes up till now, (acquired as well), so just waiting for season 1 to complete before I start it. Mean time TD will also have couple of more episodes for me to start the acquiring process.

Anybody here who has watched Poirot? I accidentally caught it on Zee Cafe the other night. With 70 episodes spanning 25 years (thankfully not as many as Doctor Who), is it worth watching all the episodes?
Each Poirot episode is like a movie by itself the way it has been filmed and if you watch carefully you will see that a lot has been spent on sets. But the stories are a bit slow and it takes a little patience to watch. Nevertheless a childhood favourite oif mine when it was used to be aired on Doordarshan in 90s.

@esanthosh bro
Bro, I can assure you that its really worth watching each and every episode of ''POIROT''.

@haisaikat bro
Really bro, I agree with you that the ''POIROT'' episodes were filmed like a movie.
Recently, this interesting series was aired in high definition on Zee Studio HD. It was aired on Zee Cafe too.
It will always be one of my favorite TV series.

Anyone watched Agatha Christie's Marple? Is it similar? Because I was never able to complete Agatha Christie's Marple

So Matthew McConaughey won the coveted Oscar for his fabulous role in "Dallas Buyers Club". I think he is also inline for an Emmy for the charecter he is portraying in True Detective.

Food for though for True Detective fans:

Marty Hart, Rusty Cohle ...could it be Heart and Soul?

Plesae please please please...

NO SPOILERS HERE....PLEASE

I'm gonna start watching True Detective when the last episode is over on coming Monday.

In any case, please don't write anything which could ruin the fun for others...

Did not like first few episodes for breaking bad, need some moral boost to keep watching further

hmmm.... Dropped watching it after 2nd Season. Though its decent but I did not find it as praiseworthy as ratings and viewers claim it to be.
