Fans of Television Series

Checked out 2 fresh shows recently - 'Dawn Till Dusk' and 'Those who Kill'.

The first one is a TV version of the movie with Robert Rodriguez continuing to direct, but missing the big star power of the film. So far it's been interesting, but seems too niche to become a hit.

TWK is another mismatched detective duo hunting serial killer type. Had too many of that recently to get interesting.

Apparently the Coen Brothers' "Fargo" is also coming out as a miniseries on FX.

It stars pretty big names like Billy Bob Thornton, Martin Freeman, Oliver Platt, etc. and also Bob Odenkirk (from Breaking Bad) and Keith Carradine (from Dexter). It has the Coen Brothers' blessing, but I don't think they are writing/directing. I think the premiere airs on 15th April.

A word of caution to all the "The Good Wife" fans here...

If you're not following the show on a weekly basis (in real time); just don't search or read or listen anything about the show... Don't even dare to type 'The Good Wife' on Google or your heart may be broken...
The best thing to do is...start watching the remaining episodes ASAP.

I just finished watching S05E15 and only I know what I'm feeling right now!!

I don't need to tell the serious fans this, but Valar Morghulis! Can't wait to watch S04E01! :)

Guys,

Please recommend some serials... especially if they have had an extended run of 4-5 seasons or more.

Going to start with Game of Thrones (yes I've never seen even one episode).

With the end of most serials and others nearing the end I'm having more free time. Time to catch up on new serials so guys please recommend your favorites.

You meant S03E01?

Nope. Season 4. Started airing last monday. Kickass opening episode! :)

...

You're in for a good time!

I'm guessing you've caught up with the usual ones? Off the top of my head:

The Wire
Mad Men
Breaking Bad
House of Cards
Suits
Justified
The Americans
Homeland
The Blacklist
The Sopranos
The Practice
Deadwood
The Fall
The Walking Dead
Lost
The Good Wife
Arrow
Orange is the New Black

etc. etc.

After finishing many of the TV shows and waiting for new seasons to start for a few, I thought of giving a start to Game of Thrones.
Finally, did the opening a couple of days back and I don't have words to express. This is some serious shit and I'm totally blown away. Down by 5 episodes from season 1 and it just gets better and better after each episode.

I'm really glad to have started this and would like to thank each one of you here who had this recommended.

@hydra, sorry my bad. Yes even episode 2 is also "kickass", have generated more interest in me than T20 world cup :)

I Have been in the middle of a major house shifting, plus really busy n getting my HT setup as well, hence not getting time at all for Movies and TV Series. But yesterday just could not resist as I started missing all this too much, so thought to give a try to any TV series that is easily available on netflix and I can watch it on my laptop before I go to sleep.

(regular ones are still kept when my house is fully setup.)

1. Started of with EUReKA : 7.9 IMDB and plot seemed interesting, but it could not hold interest past first episode. it was ok.

2. Gave a try to Torchwood : This is a spin off of popular tv series Doctor Who. Its British so yes its kinda different as usual, but was interesting even thought the plot was predictable and done to many times. I might continue with it, saw two episodes.

3. Then came Burn Notice : Wow the best of the lot, the plot is simple though but it was interesting and very intriguingly presented. It will follow the same formula of having a big mystery in the background and small per episodes cases. I hope this is the one I continue .......

I've just finished S2 of GoT, but have started reading the books in parallel. Trust me, if you've not read the books, please do. Typically if one is watching movies after reading the books, the movie/series feels a bit diluted, but this time I am watching the series before reading the book and it's a fantastic experience. The TV series gives you the thrill, while the book actually helps you understand the character that much more. Each of the character in season 1 of GoT has so much more depth than what the producers had a chance to show.

The books are definitely a must read, even though you've seen the series.

I just finished watching all episodes of True Detective (only 8 of them).
There is a reason why this is rated 9.4 on IMDB. And of course, the star cast - Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey.

Very highly recommend. Very dark, slow to a fault, but you get used to it, and if you persevere, you will be rewarded with an ending justifying the slow pace. In fact, I found the slow pace a welcome relief from the formula serials nowadays that are so fast paced, I wonder if all of us are suffering from attention deficit disorder.

Some more which I love are
Sherlock
Elementary
Mentalist
Blacklist
Brooklyn Nine Nine

The 1st 3 are crime and mystery and 3rd a comedy. They all are amazing.

GoT is amazing and now in s4.

^^ I finished 4 episodes. But going at slow speed.

@hydra, @technobhatt

Are you watching 'True Detective'?

^^ You should when you get the chance. More than anything, a single writer and director combo for all episodes maintains consistency in style of narration. The last two episodes have spiked my interest a little more.

I should finish Dekalog first :o

I binge-watched True Detective over 2 days, earlier this week.

I must say this is among the best produced, written and directed mini-series I've watched. I personally found the narrative to be quite tight. Similar mini-series like Top of the Lake, and The Fall can't hold a candle to this. Not to mention the excellent acting and the chemistry between the two main characters.

I love my movies/books/mini-series as dark as they come, and Matthew McConaughey's Rust Cohle injects a thick flavor of darkness, flecked with a sort of practical spirituality, rationalism and existentialism into this series.

I wish they'd follow this up with a mini-series of similar quality.

too bad true detective is not available on Netflix,

BTW, for some reason I continued with Torchwood and I am gald to say, the shows has picked up nicely. If you can get past the catchy/rusty sci fy CGI and tech lab I think you will enjoy the show ..... the performances are good, plot again sometimes a bit rusty but are interesting ......

Visiting this forum after nearly a month.

I managed to finally finish X-files. It ran 3-4 seasons too many. It became progressively harder to sit through episodes, especially in the case of the last two seasons (which had just a handful of good episodes put together). After 9 seasons, you'd expect to find the 'truth' that Mulder has been searching for the better part of the seven years (after which he disappears). But the only truth I learned is "I can't believe this is the truth I have been expecting to find out for the past 200 episodes". If anything, it made me think about how much time I spend on watching TV series and if there is a need to finish something you started. As a side effect, I can now appreciate Fringe a bit more considering that it fixed everything that went wrong with X-files and also had Walter, a character more interesting than a few characters in X-files put together.

  • Unlike X-files, the creators of Justified know how to 'retire' when still in great form. I am so looking forward to the final season.
  • GoT - I can't wait for this week's episode. Makes me wish they release all episodes at a time like HoC.
  • Yet to finish Dekalog.
  • Started re-watching 'Sopranos', which I quit after watching one episode last time. Have completed 3 episodes this time. Not sure how far I'll go this time either.

I would probably stick to GoT, Justified and True Detective next year and keep everything else as optional.
