Got home the Panasonic 42V20 :-)

Hi guys, here goes my new plasma TV pictures, which I bought last week but could not upload the pics because of time constraint.

Congratulations on your new TV. I hope you don't mind my pointing out, but there is something wrong with your setup. The picture in these photos is squished. My guess is that you have not setup your DVD player correctly. In the players setup menu, make sure your TV is set to a 16:9 wide display. In addition to this, but not related to the squished picture, make sure that you have your DVD player connected to the TV via a HDMI cable. In case your player does not have a HDMI out, then use the component connection. Also, make sure that your player is setup to output a progressive picture.

@Sanjay: Thanks for pointing that out to me. No man, I never mind for getting good suggestions! :) And of course, that's why I'm here on this forum.

I tried setting the output from my DVD player to 16:9 and the TV's aspect ratio is already set to 16:9, still I get the same picture. And it's connected via HDMI cable sending the output at 1080p. Probably I'm missing something here. :( Please let me know if there is any way to sort it out?

@reignofchaos: My DVD player is Philips 5996; I got that few months back considering it a good DVD player with HDMI. Most probably I'm missing something basic here. Do I need to set any specific settings in DVD player or TV to get the best picture?

Thanks!

I was afraid it might be the crappy MoserBaer DVD too and it seems that might be the problem. Knowing MoserBaer it is quite possible that they have not mastered the DVD in 'anamorphic'. Thus when you watch it on a 16:9 TV in it's 'full' aspect ratio mode, the picture will be squished. If that is the case, then the correct way to watch the movie, is with your TV set to the 4:3 aspect ratio mode (with black borders on the left and right of the picture frame). Or you could watch it in one of the Zoom modes if you wish to fill the screen and not have black borders on the sides. Try a DVD that you are sure has 'anamorphic' picture. If the squished picture problem is still there, then the fault is with your setup otherwise it is the fault of the poorly mastered MoserBaer DVD.

Thanks Sanjay, it's quite possible that the MoserBaer DVD is not properly mastered; that's they are selling those at such a low rate.

Today I will try with other DVDs; hopefully others should work.

Hi All,
Bought Pana 42V20 :yahoo: and got installed (wall mount) yesterday, has connected it to Xtreamer through HDMI, PQ is awesome.
I would like to thank :clapping: this forum for various threads on the subject which has helped me narrow down on plasma tv set.

Thanks and best regards.

edurgesh,
use the "Hold Screen" Button on the TV remote and then click the picture, your pics are a bit hazy as the Camera Lens is not set to fast enough shutter and by the time there is a slight movement in the scene. That button on the remote for "hold" is great for this.
Happy Clicking, and Viewing ofcourse...
have a nice day...

Dear owners of V20,

Can one of please indicate the formats that can be played via USB ports?
Mkv,avi etc

Thanks

I know DIVX plays for sure, .Mkv I am not too sure will surly let you know....

I used the network cable and using the in-build Media Server Access to play all your content via your wireless network. This works like a charm for me. I am able to use Win 7 as my media server and I am able to stream movies to the set directly.

The best part is using a USB Wireless card can be used as well, with no messy wire will try this out today and will tell you the results.

The USB ports also support Keyboard and a USB HDD for Live TV recoding I am yet to try out this feature but it will be super for the late night WC match for which I generally passout.

Nanu, is there a specific wifi card to be used for this, or any card/dongle would do? How would the TV get the driver for the wifi?

Anyone in Bangalore who got the 42V20 for <70K?

I had connected it thru the Ethernet port sorry I had meant that. I have corrected the original post. Will try it with a USB WiFi tonite, have one lying around.

Nanu, I've taken the pictures after pausing the DVD playback; anyway TV's Hold button is really useful in case of taking pictures of TV broadcast.

It's great that you could play the media over network; this is really useful feature for playing back the media from computer!

Thanks!

I somehow found that there is notice-able blur when paused from the source rather then via the hold button on the remote, this was via the viewing HD contect via PC and thru VLC player. I dont know maybe its just me...Try it out and let me know if there is any difference....

Technically there should not be a difference, but I'm not sure. I'll try taking pictures with the TV's Hold button too.

mkv plays FINE in this tv. That's what I have heard. I was SO excited and was going to buy the 50V20 until I was told it will cost about 1.5 L :-(
Daylight robbery for a tv who's 42" avatar costs less than 70 k :-(
