Got home the Panasonic 42V20 :-)

Nanu, one question. IF you are using Tata Sky, won't that damn logo at the bottom right cause an Image Retention issue? That will stay forever, won't it? I am scared about that!

@Nanu.
Guess you are the right person for this question.

Which of PQ60 and V20 gives better PQ in DTH? If V20 improved in this department too, It is a must buy. Last year panasonic TVs were nothing to write home about when it comes to SD upscaling. How about V20? Heard good things about 2010 panasonics. If it surpasses LG and meets samsung in SD processing, it will be unbeatable!

BTW, Did you consider any LCDs before taking the V20 home? :D

I am using Airtel, but no matter what I have used I have seen no image retention yet at all, which is rather surprising, as this is the break in period and I did expect atleast some image retention, this is again compared to my experience with the LG, in the LG there was a lot of image retention initially, though only temporary.

As for the SD content, I will have to check back at the LG, which is at my Dad's place now, but going by the black levels and HD content there is no comparison, as the Panasonic wins hands down, the HD content is ofcourse way better, though I am not sure about the SD content as that LG plasma is only HD Ready.

I am just reading on AVS forum about 42V20. Some members have reported color banding and buzz during birght scenes. Any such issues with India model 42V20D?
Some members are telling that buzz is because of noise from fan, and can be hear when on mute or during calm environment in night. Owners, Please test and let us know.

Well more the reason that one should avoid wasting our hard earned money in pursuit of perfection which is a never ending search... IMHO LG 50Pk550R would be a wiser investment at this point in time as atleast you get a 50" at the price less then that of a 42" panny..and with shortcomings which one can live with..

^^ I have not noticed this so far, ie. the noise issue, I have used it at nite and even on mute. I have not stuck my ear to the fan though. The closest i sit is 5 feet, and nothing loud at all, though i agree it does get a bit warm. and there are fans on, but they are not really audible at a distance of 5 feet even. I will pay more attention to it and post back esp. in a bright scene.

Sir what are the other short comings, I see not too many really. I even like the SD content, and I am thoroughly satisfied with its image quality of SD ESPN World Cup matches, even compared to the 42PQ60. But this is my personal opinion. Each one has their own likes and dislikes.

Have a nice day,
Cheers,
:-)

Hi Nanu,

What are color seeting you are using for V20. Panasonic guy came for installation was not of much use. Only interested in wall mounting & selling additional cable ( for PC to TV )

I am using following settings from this forum (posted for G10)

Contrast 28 to 29 (average lit room)
brightness 0,
color 33 to 35 (depending upon content),
sharpness 45,
vivid color off,
red gain 3,
green gain -2,
blue gain 0,
red cut off 2,
green cutoff -1,
blue cutoff 0.
pnr off

Nanu, i was referring to shortcomings of LG i.e. IR & reflection.. and as you have rightly said it is an individuals own likes & dislikes that matter in the end.

Hi All,
Bought Pana 42V20 :yahoo: and got installed (wall mount) yesterday, has connected it to Xtreamer through HDMI, PQ is awesome.
I would like to thank :clapping: this forum for various threads on the subject which has helped me narrow down on plasma tv set.

Thanks and best regards.

Congratulations on your purchase. Yenjvoy!

welcome Panasonic to Hifivision :)

I am sure you can share much of your knowledge and clear people's doubt about V20!
On otherside, Dhole Patil Road is quite far from my house ( bangalore ). I can't visit you until I get jaw dropping discount :)

Congrats on the TV. Looks awesome, ensure you read my plasma burn in guide and would suggest not playing for the first 100 hrs to ensure burn-in.

Just a suggestion, when you take pics, side-view, use a coin or something as reference this will give a nice idea on the thickness :)

Hi, Need help. I already have a Panasonic Pv7 (42" Plasma -3 yr old). Am looking for an upgrade in 46-50"
The 50" V20 is out of my budget of 1L, hence the options i have are either 6 series LED 46" by Samsung of Panasonic 46" U20D.

I already have a Full HD media player (Western Digital HD Live) hence the network and video formats features are not important.

Please advise should i go for the LED by Samsumg or Panasonic 2010 lineup and which one. Am looking for good pic quality and future proof

LED's (edge-lit ones, anyway) don't add anything to picture quality.

There are many non-LED TV's in your budget. Samsung C550 and LG PK550 come to mind, but do some research and see what's best for you.
