Got home the Panasonic 42V20 :-)

Am looking for an upgrade in 46-50"
The 50" V20 is out of my budget of 1L, hence the options i have are either 6 series LED 46" by Samsung of Panasonic 46" U20D.
If the Panasonic 50" V20 is out of your budget, then buy the Samsung 50" C550. It is a Full HD plasma and a very good value for money, unlike the Pansonic Plasmas, which are way over priced in India.

hi ! further refined /narrowed down the settings for p42v20d. now set the tv in true cinema or professional mode. switch off pnr, resolution enhancer, vivid color . switch on 24p mode/intelligent frame creation pro (does extremely good job without making the picture plasticky). set the color at 34,contrast 27-28,brightness 0,sharpness 42 (gives best balance between detail and grain). set red gain +3,green gain -2,blue gain 0,red cut off +2,green cut off -1,blue cut off 0 in white balance settings. although settings for color, contrast etc may vary according to the individual's taste, still hope these are ok for most. for banding i wud say for normal contrast levels, banding is almost unnoticed even in most bright scenes and not a issue at all. i watched kill bill volume 1 dvd the other night thru sony bd player s370 with the above mentioned settings i have to say i have no words to describe the experience. similar was the case with avatar, dark knight, hell boy2,alice in wonderland dvds. now waitng avatar and SPR bds.

Where did you get the above settings from? Is it specific for this model?
I never got anything specific for my TV and followed the general rule that contrast and brightness are to be kept low (about 25%). Color was advised variably on the internet so i kept it at 50% or so.

Oh, so Panasonic says their last year model were such worse horses? Refund all those who spent money in 2009 :) This is called "mother killing her own baby". Again some marketing gimmickry.

Thankfully, my LG 50PK550 looks in the league of 2010 Panasonics. Am sure the Samsung C550 is good too.

Congrats to all who got the Panasonic. Wise choice.

I was just reading the below mentioned findings from avforums review on V20:

Cons
Uncertainty over long-term black level performance
Minor floating blacks visible
Some visible banding on certain material
Calibration menus could be better designed
Light image retention seen
Power hungry when compared to latest LCDs
No film cadence detection

With their own set of issues it really boils down to individuals preference whether panny or LG.

The reason for me highlighting this is because i am really confused now between an Lg 60PK550 or panny 50V20....both being almost in the same price range, guess will have to wait for some time before i can really zero down my choice to either of them.

illusion_heart,

I was in a similar dilemma since Feb '10 when I decided to get a bigger and better TV to replace 37" Samsung LCD.

It had to be a 46" - 50"er for sure. After some googling, demos and customer feedback I narrowed down to 3 choices - PK550, C550 and V20.

V20 is a beauty but overpriced and first gen implementation of Kuro technology. Would have got the V20 had it not been for the price, uncertainty over long-term black level performance and minor visible floating blacks. So decided to give it a pass in 2010 and wait for 2011.

For now, I settled with LG PK550. Many believe Panasonic will be able to ride on Kuro technology much better in their 14G panels.

I really hope the implement the technology for which they have paid....i am also wondering that how bad will the green pixel thing be on a 60"...any ideas

It is really not that bad. Doesn't mean LG can get away with the problem unfixed.

The first set delivered was a real bummer a) pixels did not glow to full extent and b) there was a faint white vertical line. The second was physically damaged. With the third one I am lucky so far.

The green pixel problem has been reported by almost everyone. Internationally they have full CMS and expert modes to adjust the green color. Unfortunately we Indians do not have such luck. Some of us onwers have written to LG and escalated through voice of customer channel. Hoping for positive response. Also writing to Whathifi and AV Max India to make consumers aware of this problem if they have a review coming up.

I had a LG service guy come over to correct the problem in a minor way.

To some exchanging set twice over sounds a bit too much but thankfully the exchange and refund policies can be implemented and it works.

Didn't see the 60"er in Mumbai. Can you post details on PK550 owner's thread?

Congratulations on the new Pana :clapping:... Which brand shop you bought it from ?

Get some MX branded cables ..... look for deals on ebay too. Panny cables cost you 1200+ waste of money........... Look for Spiro threads on cheap cables.

Hi Illusion Heart,
I was seriously planning for the 42V20 and am now having second thoughts due to the FLOATING BLACKS...is this as bad as the dimming problem in LED TVS...if so this is a real deal breaker and am back to square one

Unless the 50"V20 is in your budget, I suggest you buy the Samsung 50" C550. It is a much better value for money. The 'wow factor' from the extra 8" far outstrip the gain in quality that you will get from the 42V20. Just my two bits.

Hi All,

I need some help !!!
I am all set to buy this TV (VIERA TH-P42V20D), however, I am a bit worried whether my Inverter/UPS will be able to support this.

I have a 800va inverter/UPS which can currently support my 29" Onida CRT + 2 Fans + 3 Tube Lights for about 2 hrs at a stretch.

My worry is that Panasonic's site (http://www.panasonic.co.in/web/pid/9261/Spec)suggests that the 'Rated Power Consumtion' is 350 Watt (in which case I don't think there is any chance of this being supported by my Inverter) however the manual (attached) says that 'Normal (Home) mode Power Consumtion' is 139 W. Other websites have suggested different amounts ranging from 140 - 180 W.

I am confused because all I need to know is what is the actual power consumption while the TV is on and whether my UPS will be able to support it or not.

Please can someone help me with this?
