Got home the Panasonic 42V20 :-)

Well, this is my first post.. I have been out and out through this forum and finally purchased the P42V20D from Top Ten, Vashi, next to Inorbit mall. (for 56K). Original bill and 1 year warranty.. It will be delivered tomorrow.

I cant thank you all enough for your suggestions and reviews.

Congtars guys...glad to see so many of you with this set...
Unfortunately, my set died on me over the weekend!!!
When I turn it on the green light first comes and then goes off and instead a red light gives 12 flashes!!! I have to now take it to the service center to claim warranty, yes I got the 3 year warranty, I hope it gets sorted out soon as I am really missing my TV.
The shop I bought it from has shut down, does anyone know the service center location of Panasonic in Pune!!???

 to hear about the sad demise of your Plasma.
Very short life span ( 10 Months) & maybe thats why Panasonic is offering 3 years warranty.

For service center just follow the link

^^ Yeah, Thank God for the 3 year warranty, else I would have gone crazy if it had happened outside of warranty...But really I ahve never heard of a TV going kaput in 10 months...

Thank you Nanu for letting us know this TVs life. I am considering Sony 42 inch EX720 @ Rs 75000/- Its a 3D TV and 120 Hz. Do you think this 720 is better than V20?

Not sure what you have implied from one post gobi, but that is not the life of the set in general, its probably an isolated incident. If it happens to a substantial number of people then you can safely say its inherent design flaw and that we should avoid it like plague.

Coming to your second query, IMHO please buy a TV set for its Picture quality, if the EX720 gives a better PQ you should definitely buy it. Do not consider stuff like USB format playback, coffee making ability ...etc

Also i will give 3D a skip given the lack of sources and the fact that most people get uncomfortable within couple of minutes of watching 3d stuff.

Hi,

I have been using 42V20 for almost 10 months. I would like to know 850VA UPS works with this TV. (42V20 power consumption is about 350 Watts)

Is there any thing specific I need consider while buying UPS (for my plasma TV)

TIA
nags

850VA works fine , but in reality it gives only 500 or 540w output. So you might want to caliculate other items that need to be on during the powercut time. I dont think V20 consumes that much all time.

@gchatterji

Your purchase at 56k was under some scheme or was it purely your negotiation skills? I am looking for a similar deal. Your help will be highly useful

Hello everyone...
Have been researching for the last few weeks (looking for something in the 40-42" segment)
and have come some way in understanding the basic working, pros-cons and difference between LCD/LED and Plasma. No wonder Plasma has got me interested... But I still need some clarity on it...
1) I have seen all three brands. One thing that came across was that the colours were very natural... but every where the colours in Plasmas were not fresh... if u understand what I mean... even a sunny outdoor had a bit of cloudy feel to it... Now is this some setting issue which the dealers are playing with or a genuine trait with Plasmas...?
2) Is the difference, while playing HD content, between the latest FHD LCDs and Plasmas distinguishable to an untrained eye..?
3) All models seem to be older versions... Samsung has put up new models on the website in the last few days... Any news about Panasonic and LG coming out with new Plasmas in the 40-42" space?

yup, the model PS51D490 seems to be mouth watering :licklips:, i hope samsung price it right, then it could be really a FIRST HD 3D TV FOR EVERYONE

You are supposed to do a calibration settings which is nothing but adjusting colour-brighness etc. But you may still see this dullness for about 200 hours or so untill the plasma gets finally settle down to its actual specified configuration. This is what I have seen with my TV, the brightness improved, the contrast improved the black level improved etc. You may just visit any of our forum member nearby you who already have a V20D and see theh picture quality.

May be hard to differentiate. But still V20D has the basic PQ advantage over many of the top brand LCDs. One of which you have already mentioned - natural colours.

I think Panasonic have already started displaying X30 (is that the one?) which has lot of features but still not comparable in PQ with V20D.
