Hathway goes HD in Bangalore??

Hey gopichandpai, does hathway have a logo for the HD channels?? I have a plasma and want to avoid burn-in of logo so am concerned before going for their HD.

I contacted many other people in Hathway. I am told that if there is no addition of any new HD channels within a month, they will take the HD STB back. Fingers crossed. After talking to many people I have realized that it will take a very long time for Hathway to add Star HD channels. Those who are looking for Star Cricket HD and ESPN HD can just forget about it.

Really appreciate u taking the risk that most early adopters have to take in situations like this. Thanx for the updates and screenshots about Hathway HD.

Its really sad that they havent given any incentive to buy it inspite of being the first cable op to provide HD. Hope u get ur cash back and Hathway gets its act together later in the year.

I have almost given up on hathway hd and am thinking of getting a tatasky hd dvr. I feel best option is getting the yearly mega pack for 5.5k which includes even newer added hd channels which will get added in may-june max.

Hmmmmm. If they give 16 channels in my locality maybe i might again change my mind towards hathway.
@Gopichandpai Thanks for the update. Update us if you get the 16 channels :)

Dear All,

I changed over to the Hathway HD connection a couple of days ago. I paid Rs 5.5K for the box & 300/- pm as sbscription (earlier, for SD, it was 200/-; Cv Raman Nagar area of Bangalore). I may get some money back for the old SD STB!!

I stuck to my cable guy only without looking for any other option (like DTH) because a known devil...... Besides, DTH channels do not come any cheap; they design their packages in such a way, you end up paying a lot. Still, even if you pay a few tens of rupees more per month to your cable guy, so what!? Long ago I had Dish TV. It proved so irksome that I junked it & switched over to the digital cable. For the last 5 years I am on CATV only.

Finally, I trust Hathway to increase the HD portfolio, in due course.

IMPORTANT
1. I find that HD signal is in 1080i format at best. (You can check up through Menu -> Setup -> System Setup -> HD Setup.)

Request you al friends to check & revert.

2. Is there anyone else (say, DTH operators) who gives 1080p format? Please do let me know.

3. I saw the diagnostics section; it says "SW update aborted" or something to that effect.

4. I too find no games, interactive channels.......

5. Without recording facility, this HD connection could prove to be VERY costly.

Will keep you all posted. Please let me know your inputs for #1 & #2 above.

Thanks a lot

Yes right. 1080i is the highest resolution possible so those who have Full HD TV should select this option to view HD channels.

No operator in the world as of today is providing 1080p format.

3. I saw the diagnostics section; it says "SW update aborted" or something to that effect.
It means there is No software update available in the near future. When a new software is available, the status becomes Idle.

4. I too find no games, interactive channels.......
Enter 181 or 182 on remote, you will see games.

Probably if hathway enables USB port in the future, we can record(like dish tv). I am sure it is on Hathway's plan.

Thanks a lot for the very quick clarification.

I find the local cable chaps don't know much, we have to help ourselves.
For instance, my cable boy was suggesting that I move to a Full HD TV
to benefit from "his" HD. I then seriously started looking around and almost decided on a SONY KDL-EX520/720. I didn't buy this "1080p" set as I was not sure it would deliver appreciably better PQ that my Philips "1080i" LCD.

Only yesterday I checked the setup on the HD STB to find it would deliver utmost 1080i !!!!! I also discovered that there is hardly any change between 720p and 1080i (as expected).

Do you think a 1080p TV will give a visibilly better PQ than my 1080i TV, with a 1080i signal?
Please let me know.
