Help in selecting 42" TV

techi can you please tell me from where are you getting 51d490 for 58k whch city ?nd is it with 2 pairs of glasses or wthout any glass ?

Ok guys, wanted to ask last time before buying new tv tomorrow. I got an offer of 57k from local dealer for LG 50PZ550,I know people here don't recommend LG plasmas ,but wanted to ask before taking a plunge since I think its pretty good price for 50" Full HD plasma.

Other option is Samsung 51D490 getting for 58k. I m getting D550 for 67k here so i don't want to go for it as I don't want to go beyond 60k.

SO please suggest Samsung 51D490 at 58k or LG 50PZ550 at 57k.

Having picked up the 43D490, I would vouch for the Sammy any day of the week. FYI, the 2011 model LG Plasma's are a strict NO-NO!

Great. I saw ur thread you were earlier deciding between Panasonic VT/ST models, What made you go for Samsung 43d490?and for how much you got for?
I have also decided and booked 51D490 today. Ya agree with you at this price point nothing comes close to Samsung PQ.

The 50'inchers were way too big for my living area. No matter how I looked at it, I couldn't justify it's size as per my viewing distance.

I, then, decided to go for the 42ST30; unfortunately for me, the dealer who offered me the best deal on it was out of stock and asked me to wait 8-10 days for it.

I decided to read up on the D490's, and checked it out at Croma. The glare wasn't a deterrent for me 'cause I use an MBP 15" as my primary machine. My baby's still in the "burn-in" process. Kept it on TORCH mode running the 20 slides.

With a little control on lighting (during the day), this is the perfect tele considering the price band & the unavailability of the Panny that I wanted :(

Hope this helps. If you do end up picking up the 490, PM me for the break-in details, there's no D490 specific info on hifivision at the moment (unless it's buried in another thread somewhere).

^Ya one cannot go wrong with this years Samsung's plasmas.
I will be getting mine delivered today so please PM me break in procedure.
Thanks

hi guys,

i was silently reading this thread for past 2 days. I was also looking for a 42 plasma and initially I was thinking of Panasonic 42x30 as it had a good deal.

Finally I decided to go for Samsung 43D490 mainly because of its 3D features. Got it yesterday at 41.5K including 2 glasses free, at Chandigarh. I hope this is a good deal.

I am yet to get it installed and running; Mandeep how has your experience been with the installation/service guys in Chandigarh?

Also I would like to know what precautions should I take for avoiding burn in etc; please suggest on what needs to be done. I am not a gadget geek and it is my first flat panel and I really have no clue about the flat panels and plasmas.

Please help.

if not the V20, then go with samsung........only go with Panasonic if you can get the neo pdp panels available in V,G,S series. U and X series do not have neo pdp, therefore are not recommended. Though being decent entry level tv's you will find better entry level tvs with Samsung.

Remember V series is the top of the line for Panasonic, V20 was rated as one of the best 2D tvs of 2010, if not the best. You cant compare it with entry level tvs from Samsung, no comparison!!!

Suggest to keep trying to source V20 at a good price, only if not possible then go ahead with Samsung.
Hi Aakashr,

I have heard that nothing beats Panasonic when it comes to Plasma TVs. I am also planning to buy P42U30D or P42X30 if former not available. Could you please elaborate how Samsung 40D550 is better than P42U30D or P42X30.

Im glad you did not go with panasonic X series. Panasonic make the best plasmas in the top end line. Their neo pdp technology is a breakthrough in plasma viewing but only found in V,G,S series. For entry level plasma's you cant go wrong with Samsung............perfect choice!!! much better than the pan X series.

Hi my budget is strictly 40-42k so m confused between these models. Requirement is 42" tv. Plasma,LCD any will do.

1.Samsung PS43D450-37K

2.Samsung PS43D490-41K

3.LG 42LK450-38k

4.Panasonic 42X30D-35k

5.Samsung 40D550-41k

I need to buy in a day or two please help in decision.

It is not that one TV is significantly better than the other but as a matter of personal choice I would like to recommend LG 42LK450 from the list you mentioned.
