Ilaiyaraaja

Murali sir...today i was spellbound by listening to Agni Natchathiram in my HM-601 player combined with actively run HAT unity powered by Sinus Live amp and Sinus Live 10" sub.

The recording quality in Agni Natchathiram stands out among my limited other Raja sir collection. In the Chennai meet you were mentioning that there were around 30 great recordings of Raja based on a sound engineer who involved in that (forgot his name)..Can you share some of the best recordings of Raja's music that you have in your collection?

Certainly I would add "Neethana en ponvasandam" album as well for it's wonderful recording. Particularly, the song "Katrai konjam nika sonnan .." sung by Kartick is a wonderful composition and has been recorded beautifully. I am currently listening to that song on my old creative speakers connected to my PC and it is sounding great. This song seems to of different genre from the great composer. The song has a very good bass and the way the wind instrument used was awesome. Apart from that, these 2 songs are also great ...
"ennodu vaa vaa endru solla mataan .." and "satru munbu ..."

Many thanks to Santnai for this information and Venu for accompanying me. For all, you Illayaraja fans, there are several Tamil and Telugu LPs, like Venu said "Never played". They are selling fast @Rs.500 per LP. Google "Rare" for the route.

3 years, I also visited Balaji at Bangalore and got a good number 50 LPs with most of them in NOS condition. I spent more than 3 hours to dig them out from the unimaginably huge stock of LPs in his den.

I am jumping in between. during my routine search of internet radio through Denon AVR 4311 found a station called "Ilayaraja Radio". Heaven for Raja fans. I never looked who is airing, from where but enjoying the radio.

1. Transmission in MP3 128kbps.
2. No commercial, no speech, no shutdown.
3. Every song is a Classic.

Sorry, if I interrupted a flow in the thread but could not keep it to myself. Even thinking of how to record but don't know how.

I always love to hear to the maestro's telugu , kannada and tamil compositions.
Have many hits on cds.
Would love to buy the hifi versions.

Excellent. While many like me have enjoyed his music just with ordinary quality mp3, I am thrilled and curious to know how the re-mastered CDs will sound in an hi-fi audio setup. Any idea if those CDs are available for purchase ?

Honey bee cds are not avail now. Because Ilayaraja has given all 920 film song rights to Modern Cinema. So he ordered stop 5.1 and hi-fi cds are who produced by Honey bee company. The Hindu news also very late.

 -- That is the reply I got it from my First Cousin (Keestu Gaanam - Madurai)

Thanks for the clarification. On similar lines, there was an interview with Ilayaraja (I guess in Jaya TV). He was asked if he would be releasing any non-movie albums like "How to Name it", etc.. He replied that though he was very much interested in giving new albums, it would be commercially difficult to produce such albums due to privacy issues. He was referring to the quick downloadable mp3 tracks available in the internet and so the companies were reluctant to fund such albums.

Currently there are 4 cds (3 hi-fi+stereo CD & 1 dts CD) are available at Honey Bee Music, those who want can get from them thru courier.

I think if you read the news script of "The Hindu" the interview it clearly says the conversion is done in "Hi-fi" and DTS 5.1 channels. Hence I think it will play only in either a DVD player or a DVD drive laptop/pc which support these formats.

Agi Music is still releasing MP3's of Raja . Are u sure about Modern Cinema getting the rights .

Raja keeps changing companies so frequently ..but that its not going to help him in beating piracy ..
