I am not sure why some of Ilayaraja's recording quality is not that great. For example, Nizhalgal which was released in 1980 has an excellent recording, whereas Tik Tik Tik released in 1981(a year after that) had a very mediocre recording. I tried getting from various sources but there are a few albums which had a very normal quality consistently. This is not limited to these two movies, a lot of them. I mean the recording quality should have got improved over the years, right?
But it is on and off for Raja.
Any thoughts on this?

You are right. Many of IRs recording are found mediocre. But we cant conclude that the source recording is mediocre until we listen those tracks in vinyl.

May be recording equipments at Chennai might not have been good then. Some producers could have afford or interested to record at overseas, or at selected studios with better equipments. Those movies may sound better than the other ones.

What you are saying is 100% true. You will get 1980's Alaigal Oyvathillai in Excellent Quality, but not of 1982's Kadhal Oviyam. And 1978's Priya beats Alaigal Oyvathillai.

Question to fellow Raja fans..Watched the Raja's performance in Vijay Pokkisham where many of his songs were performed by top singers and a big orchestra group. It was such a pleasure to hear SPB perform so well song after song. Wondering whether any such Raja's performance on stage has been released as audio CD/DVD etc?

Am not intended to Hijack the thread.

Even am one of the devotees for Isai Raja's Music. Recently i heard a song "Anandha Yazhinai" from Thanga Mengal Which was composed by Yuvan.

Its mesmerizing , I could feel the Raja's in 80's, Yuvan has proved that he is the son of maestro (IMHO).

What ever equipments come to market, Listening Raja's Song broadcasted in FM's are making me crazy every time.

Bought few CDs from him. I asked for stereo songs and not the dts ones. He explained that they create stereo first and then do the dts mix. So, thought it should be good. The music has good extension. You can see they highs extended well above 22K. But the dynamics is very much compressed. The music is loud because of that. It doesn't have the smoothness that you associate with Raja's song. The AGI music release is way way better. I wouldn't recommend honeybeemusic recordings to fellow HiFiers. Their intent is good. But, execution is not in the audiophile grade. It is more towards mass market grade.

Guys, I am looking for the Megha movie songs CD that was released a couple of weeks back. I couldn't locate the CD in a couple of shops in my locality at Bangalore. Even flipkart and ebay sites do not have the CD. I found this website ilayathalam.com where we can place online order, but when I called them over phone, I was told that it would take 10 days for the dispatch.

Any other place/shops in Bangalore where I can purchase it ... When NEPV CD was released, I got it from flipkart, but I am struggling to get Megha CD in bangalore.
