Just bought Yamaha YHT-299

Friends, after testing the system under various configuration permutations and combinations for a considerable amount of time (1 month!), I now plan to hook up the speakers at appropriate places. Right now I have connected the speakers with bundled cable itself (which has fallen short and I had to make joints for both L & R front speakers:sad:). I want to replace the speaker cables and interconnects with another branded good quality speaker cables and ICs.

Please suggest me good speaker cable FOR YAMAHA YHT-299 as I have read in the forum that sound quality may be specific to specific cable and set up. Bandridge even 14AWG prices shot up now a days. Please suggest me something between Bandridge and bundled cables & IC---total VFM!

What about Monoprice, MX or even Finolex? Have people tested these cables with YHT 299?

Please advise.

Hi Pranjandas,

As far as I know any decent brand's speaker cable costs about 40/- to 60/- per meter. The Brands that you have mentioned are decent and you can give them a try. Of course, the final price comes down to gauge size and length of the wire. Since, Speaker wires are sort of 1 time investment (You need not buy new speaker cables even if you upgrade your speakers), my suggestion is to go for good quality branded ones.

Thanks,
Sandeep.

Slightly off topic but responding to Prajandas ordering speaker cable from Amazon.

I've personally had a very bad experience with Amazon. They are terrible with their deliveries - one of my orders took about 20 days to reach and Amazon was not at all helpful in tracking the order, even though it was backed by the Fulfilled by Amazon promise.

Sorrry Mod - I just wanted to make the OP aware of the issues with the e-tailer while ordering the speaker cable

Agreed. Amazon is very verry slow in delivery of products. But there are many products which otherwise is not available elsewhere or cant be placed order reliably particularly in case of EBay. Huge scarcity of trusted/power sellers there. With Snapdeal I have some past experience of sourcing cheap chinese materials. Had no option but to order on Amazon. I beleive Amazon sources many of their products directly from USA like sellers car2india, ibhejo etc. hence delay in delivery.

Hi guys,

What are the problems faced by YHT299 owners? Any common issues (like Receiver auto cut) you guys faced?

Can I believe 2910 to be more refined and fixed up than 299?

While going through this thread, read multiple accounts of ResQ (extended warranty for YHT-299). When I asked the Vijay Sales rep for extended warranty while buying, he said there isn't an extended warranty.
Any idea how can I avail this if Vijay Sales isn't offering it?
Suggestions welcome!

Hi All,

Just thought to update here as well to notify you all that I have acquired pioneer AJ BS-22 as well to pair it up with YHT-299 supplied AVR.

As you can recall, I have earlier paired Pioneer AJ FS-52 & C-22 with Yamaha HTR-3066 and used yamaha supplied speakers as rears.

For testing, I paired BS-22 as front with the Yamaha AVR. There was vast improvement in the sound department in BS-22 compared to FS-52. Especially the BASS was more evident. It could be that the Yamaha AVR was able to drive BS more easily compared to the Floor Standing speakers hence this noticeable difference.

After testing, I then moved the BS-22 as rears and kept the FS-52 back to it's original position. I then played the movie 'Transformers' and the quality sound produced made a big smile on my face. Yes the rear sound is now much improved, thanks to the BS-22. I also tested some 320KPBS music through "NEO 6 Music" decoder, and the sound produced was much more sweet and there was active participation in the rear end.

Having said this, if your room is small, then YHT=299 will still sound good and great for both movies/music. Since my Hall is little longer in size, i could see vast improvement in the Pioneer speakers compared to Yamaha supplied speakers. And yes, a much better powerful AVR can give much more desired results with pioneer AJ speakers. But as of now, I am satisfied with Yamaha AVR and if budget allows in future, would go out for a new AVR and move YHT-299 to a smaller room. (right now the YHT-299 supplied speakers are kept safely in custody for future use)

let me know for any queries...

Can anybody try this for me? I want to use 299 AVR as DAC.

Source Output > Optical/HDMI Input > AVR > Audio L/R Output > Integrated Amp

Do we get the Analog Audio Output from the selected source from the AVR?

Purpose of doing this is to put computer audio to AVR (to use Burr Brown DAC) then Analog output to Stereo Amplifier. However I can do it myself but AVR and Amp are placed in different locations for now and have to do efforts to do it as everything is organized after a lot of time. So it would be great help if it is easier for someone.

Woww.. Great to know this Murli. How much did BS-22 Speakers cost you.

Thanks,
Sandeep.

Guys, again need your help. Even after lots of trying and shuffling, I am unable to have the HTR pass through 3D HD signal. What may be the issue? Also, on one of the HDMI inputs as I mentioned in one of my earlier posts, I have plugged in a Chromecast. While chromecast can cast and stream audio and video, I have plugged in the chromecast only for casting/straming audio. However, whenever I switch on the Chromecast, the TV automatically comes on. I have tinkered with the CEC settings, but I have had no luck. Please shed some light as to how both these issues can be resolved

Hi Guys,

Have you installed any special protection for the YHT299, say spike busters/UPS/stabilizers?
I am based in Delhi, though voltage doesn't fluctuates much but I wanna play it safe. Any suggestions you may want to give?

Is 36k is ok cost for yht299?
Try to squeeze in something, at least an HDMI and Optical cables (each worth around 700/-).
Most vendors sell YHT299 for Rs. 34k-35k without any freebies (I got it for Rs.34k without anything on 1st Nov'14). In case you buy it at the advertised price of Rs.36900/- add a 2k-3k more and get a BD player thrown in. They generally give you the basic Philips one.

If no freebies try to get around Rs.1000/- shaved off from Rs.36K. Ask around, someone will definitely sell for lesser amount.

Got a Belkin 8-point spike protector. Asked the Yamaha installation guy is anything else like a stabilizer or UPS is required. He flatly said no. However, most members here tend to add a UPS/ stabilizer for extra protection. I will add one too in time.

Keep in mind the total wattage consumption from the socket. If there are no outages, then you should be good.

Hi friends,
i've been following this forum for almost 2 weeks since i decided to buy a HTiB.
Thanks for all those suggestions. Inspired by this forum, i started searching for YHT 299...luckily the first shop i went had it (RD Express in annanagar) i listened to it and was impressed but wanted to search other places also and the very next day realized that no other place had one.
went back there, then realized that was the last piece they are having...thought twice before finalizing it (as it is demo piece) but they offered YHT 299 @ 32000/- (MRP was 39900) along with 2 year extended ResQ warranty, so immediately grabbed it.
Along with that bought V gaurd stabilizer.
Now after almost 1 week of experience which was satisfying....(great for movies and good for music), now i felt like in need for more bass

So please suggest me any good bookshelfs for around 15K (mainly for bass and mids)

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
