Just bought Yamaha YHT-299

After exploring Yamaha 299 and JBL Cinema BD 300. I finally went for JBL Cinema BD300 the sound quality from JBL is very amusing and this beats yamaha and other brands. Not sure why this forum always recommds yahama products.:-)

Drawback for JBL

JBL Cinema BD 300 is more costly than Yamaha 299
Limited connectivity option
Optical In - 1
Coaxial In - 1
HDMI In - 2
HDMI Out - 1

I dont think they really are drawbacks. Then how abt this..Doeas yamaha Has blueRay?Wifi?Blueetooth?Youtube?

I think the primary criteria for a HT shud be a quality sound and not the number of ports..:)

Well to be honest, to each his own. General guidelines for buying a HT is personal choice of media, quality of sound, and long term perspective. The first two are very subjective and most members here recommend using one's own judgement to select the HT. There are broad suggestions but never a statement saying "This is better than this because I say so". Whenever there is a lock jam everyone encourages to go and audition the device first hand and make the final call. I did that and so did many others.
I liked the YHT299's sound quality and crispness compared to other brands so I bought it. Do I say its better than JBL's BD300? Heck no!
Its great if you love JBL more. After all isn't all that matters? Your won personal choice? Many here feel YHT299 excels and so be it! Kudos for your new purchase. Enjoy the HT.

Hi,

Off late I am facing a strange issue. I am having intermittent audio flickering for all the HD channels. When I am playing anything from the Blu ray Player there is no issue at all. SD Channels are also absolutely fine.

I am getting this only with HD Channels. I use Tata Sky HD STB. I have tried switching HDMI Cables. It did not work. And as I said earlier, this happens intermittently. Some thing like once or twice in an Hour. This flickering lasts for about a minute or so and then disappears.

Is anybody else facing this strange issue? Slowly but steadily the frequency of this audio flickering is increasing. So, it is bothering me a little. Is this an issue with Audio Transmission of those channels or with AVR? It is happening only for those channels which give Dolby Digital audio signal.

My Connection Settings,
Tatasky STB --> YHT 299 AVR
Philips Blu ray --> YHT 299 AVR
YHT 299 AVR --> Sony W700B TV

Thanks,
Sandeep.

Hey sandeep,

Hope you are rocking man, me to having same problem, the sound flickers so frequently these days, its fine in few of the channels. As you mentioned, i also noticed in HD channels, when it flickers it will go to PCM and comes to dolby digital. I thought it might be the signal issue from Tata sky. Audio through BD and Blue Ray videos doesn't have any issues. The issue is only with the HD channels.

Thanks,

Hi PGY,

I am great. How are you? Thank you very much for the Response. That is a sigh or releif actually. Yes when it flickers it will go to PCM and comes back to Dolby Digital. I guess we can say that it is a signal issue from Tata Sky then.

Thanks,
Sandeep.

I checked in SD channels which is absolutely fine. Yeah we can wait and see any improvements in signal quality :D. Am not sure if we call customer care they will be able to help us.

I have a question, since you are connecting STB with AV Receiver, is they any video signal improvement....?

Hi Kalyan,

As I Understand, Every AVR upscales video to some extent there by improving video quality. Same is the case every TV. Almost all the TV's try to upscale or improve the video signal quality.

Yes, there is a little improvement in SD Channel video quality but definitely not much. I have 2 TV's, 1 in the living room which is connected via AVR and the other in the Bedroom which is directly connected to STB. HD is always good in both the TV's. SD channels are better in the TV which I have in the main living room. But then again, I am not sure if this is because of AVR or TV. My TV in the Bed room is a 5 year old LCD. So, I cannot really comment on the video upscaling ability of YHT 299 AVR.

Thanks,
Sandeep.

I have put the YHT-299 on sale again. Sorry for some of the FM's who messaged me earlier asking for it and I had denied it at that time.
