Just bought Yamaha YHT-299

Hi everyone, I m planning to buy yht 299 this weekened from reliance digital at kolkata, price is 37990 , i have to pay rs 1990 mor for philips BDP , if I m not willing to take BDP then after discount of rs 3000, it comes around rs 35000, i have contacted reliance at axis mall over phone and they r saying they have fresh stock, not demo one, any suggestions plz

Thanks buddy, I was trying to play some audio CD's, i was able to change those decode modes previously, but now am unable to, may be ill play around sometime tomorrow and let you know.

I am facing the same issue. My AVR used to pick up DTS, Dolby signals from my DTH and BD player now not.... pls. let me know what went wrong here...

Ok Got it. Had set one of the speakers to large by mistake and that muted the DTS, dolby signals. Now all fine.

Still only retailer FxAudio is selling at cheap price. I am still confuse why there is such a vast difference between the price of 2 retailer.

Hi Vij,

The AVR does not support playback of any video files. You can only play audio files via AVR's USB. FLAC's does not work with this AVR though. mp3's are just fine. YHT 299 is a good buy within a budget. For Movies, it is very good. For Music, it is ok. I am using this for more than 1 year now and I am happy with it. I will upgrade it soon though.

So do you mean to say that setting the speakers to 'LARGE' will mute the DTS, Dolby signals? I didn't know that . Can you share your speaker settings with us. I think even I have set my speakers to large.

I think he is saying ONE was large and another was small. Say, Front Left was Large and Right was small.

Oh, yes, I re- read it again .My bad . Anyway, I would still like to know what difference will it make by setting the speakers to small/large . I didn't notice any.

IM going to order my new TV LG 42UB 820T (UHD), initially thought of YHT2910 but after going through the posts looks like YHT299 is recommended by everyone. What about any recommended Soundbar or i need to stick with HomeTheater setup ?

Soundbars are a major compromise and is a case of form over function.

My father has Yamaha yas103 soundbar. It is a decent upgrade from tv speakers... but the experience is bit hollow and has a boomy feel... its decent but not very good.

Finally, Yesterday i bought, yht-299 from reliance digital
it cost me 34,500
it comes with 2 year extended warranty from reliance digital. (3900/-)

i bought YHT 2910 for around Rs. 30,000 from Yamaha showroom. I dont know why it is so expensive in India. In october 2014 i bought a YHT 299 for just Rs. 15,000 as there was an offer going on at that time.

I have setup the HT.. but my mp3 files in 8 gb pendrive is not detected by AVR..

What to do???please help..

AVR is not meant and not even designed to be used as media player. get WD media player. that is enough.

Format the pen drive and copy just a single MP3 file and see if it works. Problem may be due to AVR not handling some files present in the pendrive.

My Yamaha AVR has no issues in playing MP3 files in pendrive.

Auditioned the Yamaha YHT-299. The active sub was not punchy and powerful. Stock sony/Lg subs worked better. Plus the sound distorted @ high volumes.
Is it normal or was it a faulty piece?

Format in fat32. I use 16gb usb 3.0 sony pendrive formatted in fat32, and it recognises without any iasues.
