LED or LCD or PLASMA

Okay, what I observed today:
Samsung: E-zone guys said Samsung has greater customer feedback. Design wise TOP NOTCH.
Sony: Design not bad at all. Pricey though. But
IT's SO NATURAL! the X-Reality is really really good. Samsung was VERY VIBRANT but did not seem natural at all.
One problem though: LED's when viewed at an angle, the lights above are somewhat reflected. The panels were somewhat glossy and I did not have the same feel as a direct parallel view. Is this normal? if it is I don't know if ill leave my crt :( because I watch alot of tv from my sofa, and that is at a an angle from the tv.
Lastly, I would surely get sony if i had to get an led, but the video formats :( Does sony play avi at least? what about subtitles?

Bad that Sony is also now hyper promoting most of their Edge-Lit LCD as Rebirth of LED tv ,u see them everywhere,as if they were original LED backlitTV just like Samsung previously did .This is just to catch unaware consumers & milking them grandly this festive season. They need to have their slice of the cake which they failed to make after the devastating earthquake at Japan when inventories ran short! So Caveat emptor there!

Whatever P.E these co employs, pic will be different oob as preset at factory & viewing satisfaction will be totally relative & subjective!..take ur pick

but one thing that will be always a hard fact on most of the lcd-led tv is the very poor viewing angle & if ur not viewing upfront,u will have quite a trouble adjusting from a crt, which never have such issues & lcd-led tv's have!.... & this is particularly where Plasma tv comes in ... which is closest to crt tv & betters it in many situation, particularly HDtv & have the better natural picture& colours.

lastly afaik most of the 2011 sony neither supports ntfs drives nor play the pirate v.formats like mp4,mkv,avi's,etc except some mid to low Be3 models like cx30,cx420,etc & that too has issues...why don't u find out here>Select & Compare : BRAVIA LCD TV : Television & Projector : Sony India which model tallies ur requirement, particularly if u & ur family is a big time fan of Sony tv's!.

..anyway,i feel like i'm repeating again...plz read the various post in the forum,if nothing else,my previous posts in this very thread,...u will get the idea!!!...i'm a newbie myself, but im trying to help u afaic, but there is no substitute of self learning as only u know what r ur true requirements !!!

Don't bother about video formats and playback. The ultimate buying creteria should be picture quality. For media playback you can always buy a decent media player starting from 2.5K.

I guess then I'll have to get a Plasma for viewing angle. But again i have a doubt regarding that, since plasma's have glossy screens, and I have big windows, won't that glare on the screen? Also, the Edge led thingy, that would result in poorer blacks especially and what else? Is it very bad? the edge led? Because I liked the demo.
Lastly, the part saying that Samsung but artificial and all, is it just me or everyone has some agreement with the statement?

EDIT: anyone knows what's the custom duty on tv's?

edit: i am seeing alot of threads here regarding panasonic v20. But I cannot find this model in panasonic india website. can anyone link me to it please?

The model is phased out now and new models are in, but there are stocks available for 50inch size in V and VT20 series at very attractive prices.

oh, okay I wouldn't buy an EOL'ed model. Then how is U series? is it not good for cable tv and works only for HD?

All models become EOL by end of the year. So you will be changing a new TV every year.?

Trust me U series can not even come close to V.............

okay, I understand that the V series is very good and all, that may be an exception. But generally people would prefer to buy new products rather than EOL'ed right?

Any-way, so how is U/V for SD content?

Model being old does not mean EOL. Only End of Sale to push new models not End of Service. :) SD or HD V series is clear winner. But if you have lot of SD content to watch why are you looking for plasma ? Why not regular CCFL LCD?

future proofing. I would buy this and this would last for a good 6-7 years I guess?
My current Sony Wega Trintron 29" with PIP costed me 60 grand, back in 2000! which was huge for that time :P but, hey it is still serving is well. And, to be very honest, it doesn't need to be replaced, but I am sick and WANT an LED type screen now :P Though, dad is still saying "koi darkar nahi hai" lol!

Main reason, I'll be going to bangkok this friday, looking for a great deal there. I hear Sony's are cheap there.

Future proofing by getting a plasma ? LOL

Plasmas will cease to exist soon. Many brands have dropped plasmas completely from their portfolio and the ones that still make them are not getting much from plasmas.

There is nothing called future proofing , by the time you step out of the store after purchase new model walks in to the store. (reality)

Check sharp series too , bangkok prices are pretty cheap , I heard.

hmm saw that coming. But isn't a plasma the best when it comes to PQ? I am an idiot(on this tv and all matter :P), and whatever info I have is from this forum.

Well I won't say "better". No tech is clearly superior. Plasma has its strengths and so does LCD. Similarly both have weaknesses as well. So it depends on what works best for YOU.

OKAY GUYS:
The shop from which I buy my tv's and stuff, it says it can get me the old faithful (as per this forum) pana P42V20D for 64K. I could negotiate around say 2-3 grand maybe. So how is the price? Is it good?
Any other TV recommended? Should I get this or get the Sony 46" EX520 from Bangkok which would cost a bit more than this and travelling hassles+No warranty?

Why you want to buy 42V20D for 64k when you can get 50V20 for 65k????
