LG 2016 OLED Owner's Discussion

Default setting of brightness 50 crushes black and I could not go beyond 54 without ruining blacks. So re-adjusted the above settings. Much better and happy.

These are pics with old settings from Google Pixel XL.

Just for comparison, below pics from 2011 LG IPS LCD-LED. Yes, the panel technologies are different. OLED and LCD cannot be compared but for fun...

Made some more tweaks and the picture is better than before. AVSForum has great resources. This time the whites and greyscale looks so much better. Most of the nasty blockiness in near black is gone and colour gradations are smooth.

Guys, what settings do you use?

I think I gave you all the links of calibration I have tried out on my B6. The AVForum one suited me the best. Someone called it sepia toned, but I feel warm moderates the colours much better, even when movies have cooler tones. You could say I am too used to the calibrated screens in online studios.

If you come across any new calibrations, I'll be delighted to try them out when I get the time.

With all the new OLEDs floating around, I am surprised nobody has had handshake issues with HDMI and of course there is ARC.

I live in Mumbai, so I am paranoid about humidity. Most of my gadgets are on standby, as is LG OLED.
What's humidity to do with leaving TV on standby? It's practically off except for power supply and power switch / remote sensor

do you guys power off ur oled tvs from the main switch at nights? or you guys leave it on standby?

Cheers.

I power off at night.

A power surge in 2010 blew out the power card / circuitry in my LED Tv, washing machine and laptop power adapter. Fortunately they were all repaired under warranty. The TV power card however kept failing repeatedly (2 more times) after the 1st incident. I have been paranoid ever since.

I leave it on standby. The TV will run compensation cycles when in standby (after 4 hours of accumulated usage).
yes i read about that & the process is only for 7-10mins, we can shut it down from standby after that right?

talk about it, being in Bombay city, same thing happened to me in 2009, i lost my router & many other electronic gadgets & since then paranoid like you.

So I did mention in my first post that the TV will be replaced. Today I received the replacement. 5% gray test is great OOO with no vignetting. It is a uniform panel. Croma guys had to be pushed a bit for the replacement. They said it would take 15 days but to my surprise it arrived in one day.

i got the videocon d2h HD setup box since many years, its been acting funny & crashing since few months now & want to upgrade to another setup box, was thinking of going for the 4k one from videocon, anyone here have it? also to upgrade the setup box from hd to 4k is the dish also changed with the wiring? or just the setup box?

Thanks.

Haha... A troll himself is asking me to stop being one... Your funny too.
I I n ii have to spell it out for you, What I meant is that, lots of people apart from oled owners would like to get a feedback on 4k set top boxes too... So you rather post it in a seperate thread. Don't take it personally bro, I was saying it since it'll help all of us.
Your question implies that you are asking for a feedback on 4k stb set top boxes if anyone here has one, it'll be benefitial for all if you open a another thread.
So you are not sticking to the topic... And digressing, why was it so hard to understand. When I digressed from the topic, I politely agreed and communicated to the other person too...So take it easy and let's stick to the topic here.

Take it easy, already opened a thread in the section.

Cheers.

The new set picture is great out of the box. I tried a few adjustments but reverted to deafult. There is near black pattern that I found very useful for brightness and 20 point white balance.

What settings are you guys on? I am the only one posting pics
??
