LG 50PK550R Owner's Discussion Thread

I had raised a complaint on monday for the firmware update. The LG engineers will be visiting me on friday with the update. I guess being from pune helped coz factory in pune. Saiju I just wanted to know if you could / we can retain the original software if we dont like the firmware update. Anybody has questions to ask them?

Thanks
Sid.

Siddh: Can you share info on where you bought your tV from and what was the price paid? I am considering the PK550 and wanted to evaluate various stores.
Thanks!!

siddh: Think there should be an option to revert to old firmware. The LG engineer should be able to help. Please ask him before the update is done.

Didn't really think of it as I was excited enough that there is a firmware update.

@siddh
R u sure that its only firmware update?
Scarlet here mentioned that the PCB itself has to be replaced. I had asked him for clarification and he has not got back. Vivek is also waiting and so I am. If thats correct, I dont think we can revert once upgrade is done.

So if it involves PCB replacement, I would think hard before going for it.

@shreeps
What is the lowest quote you got so far for PK550?

Hi,

Dotmac : I just inquired, there is no PCB change. Only the Software.

Saiju : I have asked the LG technician to bring both the versions of the software. He said he will communicate this with the engineers who are comming.

Shreeps : I have sent u the info on the place i got my Set thru PM.

Okay so i got the 550 replaced, this was the 4th replacement, LOL, i couldn't update about my side of the progress since i was busy with some work of my own, so anyways mine is still the april model, but the good thing is this screen is flawless, no dead pixels, flashing pixels, hot pixels, no specs of dust, no uniformity issues, plus even the green pixels don't show up till level 57 of brightness.

I guess everyone else has got a call about the firmware update except me, does the new firmware do anything regarding the green pixels ?

Also i am not breaking this one In using the break in images, just regular TV viewing and gaming with no HUDS, since i won't be getting it calibrated, cos we don't have high tech calibrators in INDIA, and i don't want LG touching the display, cos i know how those people are.

hay Shaiju and others:

Hi dotMac - I havent got a quote yet - I plan to visit the showroom the coming weekend. I did visit one LG Shoppe and he didnt have the set in stock so he refused to give the price -go figure. He said he will be getting it in a week's time when he will call me so that I can look at the PQ and at that time he will tell me the price as well :rolleyes:

Think v3.27 the latest one. Didn't notice mine but someone on this thread mentioned v3.27.

Replace your set? What's the problem?

Seems LG loves replacing sets. Is there any chance of LG coming up with a new version of the PK550R? PK590R! Wow, that would be a dream come true.

In Pune you get it for ~57K I guess. So all the best. :thumbsup:

It has been a while since I raised the dissatisfaction over green pixels and lack of calibration features. LG has been responsive and released a firmware that they claim is for green pixel issue.

I have been in touch with a LG engineer from Pune almost every weekday (I let him rest on Sat/Sun :)). The impression I get is that LG has not stopped discussing the issue. Am promised that the complaint will be kept open until resolved.

It is time to drop another email to Rohit Pandit (business head). If it is acceptable then I can send out an email and CC those who are willing to be part of the discussion.

PS: Only PK550 owners please.

I am in as well. will email him myself as well. Also i haven't got any call for the firmware update, anyone has got it yet, i raised the issue with my local service centre head but he hasn't replied back, his name is Amit. I have already got this display replaced 4 times, so he has had a lot to deal with me, just as i had a lot to deal with LG, my complaint hasn't been closed as well as of yet.

Hi All,

I have just been lazy to post to this thread. I got my TV delivered on 1st August and am about 30-35 hrs into the break in period. The SD picture quality has been steadily improving but even i have some "green pixels" as mentioned by other users. :mad:

I am attaching some pics which show the green pixels on the screen and the high reflection on the LG plasma.

Though inspite of the above probs i am overall very satisfied with LG PK550 and the pic qulaity is great. :clapping:
