Check the UTT settings before the firmware update. I think it will reset to zero after the firmware update.

Mine is finally scheduled for tomm. I have asked them to carry the service remote for sure. Will try and check what other options exist.

I demoed the set today at Ambience mall Gurgaon. As usual, the set was displayed along with LEDs and LCDs and as a result, picture seemed to be dull.(The contrast was set to 100, brightness at 50)
How bright is this plasma? will it match up or exceed the brightness/contrast levels of my 3 year old Sony 32" D series LCD.
I like control over brightness as in LCDs.(Can dim the backlight).
Please suggest, I want this TV for my home and primarily I would be watching blu rays through PS3.

firmware was successfully upgraded to V3.28 fro mearlier V3.22

i have already noticed that the color definition is more better than before

he was unable to check for usage hours,

@ vivek if ur able to check for the same , kindly share how he did it

Ok, so it was not just me who noticed the color push. Yes, pictures looks vibrant (in a natural way) rather than dull. As the panel ages the colors get denser and you may want to bring it down by a point or two.

There is visble change in contrast between 72-74 and 78-81. That's where adjustment affect contrast. They have tweaked something that affects the Movie mode (in a good way).

Now, only if they got rid of the greens then blacks would be better. I don't understand why LG can't reduce RGB brightness.

i also had same observation . the set was PANASONIC, looked pretty dull against LCD and LED. asked sales guy about this said " sir plasma hai na , dull hi reheta hai "

Congrats Wolfheart, you gave me the confidence to buy PK550,your post was usefull, thanks

You're welcome! Look some users have faced minor problems with this set. However there are so many good things about this TV which far outweigh the minor problems. There is no such thing as a perfect flat Tv. every technology has it's flaws. However there is a thing called a sweet deal and the PK550R at Rs. 57k is just that!

I didn't go for the LCD / LED because of three reasons:

Image too sharp, SD appears pixellated
Motion judder
Soap Opera Effect (the worst part)

In a brightly lit showroom the LCD and LED TV's will appear much brighter. I would suggest that you visit friends who own a plasma and demo it in a home environment.

Sales guys always push the LED's and LCD's for some reason. However the image quality for movie watching is best in a plasma. (just my opinion)

Hay new set seems to have Black border inside the normal frame which was not the case with old one. And Right side screen seems to be missing 1 line of Display. Left side seems to be fine and even.

Is this normal? or just with my set?

Is the ISM set to Orbiter? If YES, it is its feature that one edge will have a non-glowing line of pixels.

Try turning OFF ISM and recheck.

Well just got my firmware updated. The old version is 3.24 and it gets moved to 3.28.

As mentioned the colors sure seem denser and better ...very subtle but just can feel it esp when watching HD channels.

The LG guys were nice and courteous, agreed the problem exists.. told me they have been keeping hush, since they are not really sure what to do to fix it. Looks like there might be an update again very soon.

USB and HD didnt work.. my grouse damn @##$%^^^^$$##@. Actually they were too scared to try any changes.

More as i notice, but I have been able to bump the brightness to 57-58...from my earlier 52-53.

Thanks Vivek. The HD channels look great. SD is not bad either.

So who says Plasmas are dull? :yahoo: Now only if LG gets rid of those other minor niggles and we have a crackling display (though I have no hope of HD through USB).

Is there any plasma model with DLNA available in LG India?

The PK750 (not available in India) and the PK950 (your local LG shoppe can order it for you) both are DLNA certified. Both the above models come with advanced connectivity options (DLNA, netcast etc) and I think that they may also play HD via the USB.

I'm getting my PK550 hopefully this weekend :yahoo:, how do I check which version firmware it has? what would be the menu sequence

Even if some LGs can support HD (MKVs) they cannot play the audio if it's DTS instead of std DOlby. I checked on a LD650 (with all the dlna, netcast features ; great video but NO audio WTF!!) so maybe in hindsight it's better not paying for those premium features, when u can add them with a media player

Did you buy your set from a proper LG dealer or from grey market?
