LG 50PK550R Owner's Discussion Thread

Thats what I am trying here :D

Look up LG's website and call up the contact person over there and ask him the num of Corporate/Institution sales persons num. Thats wat i did here.

Also 1 guy Chiraag from B'Lore is looking to buy 2 pcs of the same, join hands that may further help u to reduce the price

I checked with Devi International day before yesterday and they told that it will take 3 days to come to their showroom.
well, everywhere without bargain price over phone is ~66k. I think 58k is reasonable bargain if you join hands.

@chirag, @ kittu,

If u guys can find out in Bangalore for 55K. Else let me know I will find out for u guys here in Mumbai if it can be delivered in Banglore for you guys. We can even try for Pana V20 and see if they can make us a good offer.

Coz am myself looking to buy 1 50 PKK550 and 2pcs 32' LCD

55K, wow! If I had known this before...

Couple of days back I left the menu of Inglourious Basterds on and dozed off on the sofa. Got a good fright when I woke up. Running color wash for 5 minutes followed by 2 minutes of white wash solved the IR. Yesterday it was Start movies. I'll never learn :p

Sony 370 looks to be a better upscaler than Pioneer 420.

Finally got my PK550 delivered !!

they dumped the piece yesterday and the carton shows mfgn date as 10 Aug, 2010. SO I am hoping it will have the updated firmware. Now just waiting for them to show up and install the beauty. I have the plasma burning palette images, anything else I need as a checklist? would appreciate options from owners/experts. What should be the burn in period picture setting?

Thanks for all the guidance by gurus here, this greatly influenced my decision to go for the PK.

I got a blu-ray or Alice in Wonderland as a gift yestrday. The package also contains a dvd of the movie. I played the Blu-ray through my PS3 and the picture quality was a bit off. I mean HD is supposed to be a bit clearer and vivid. Then I played the DVD and it looked fantastic. I tried the Blu-ray again and tinkered with the settings. Somehow I can't get the tv to display and optimal image via the blu-ray. It's either too sharp or too contrasty or a bit washed out. Is it the tv, the settings or my viewing distance at 6 feet? Would appreciate your opinions guys!

What are the TV settings? Are you using HDMI? I am not sure of PS3 setting but check if it is sending 1080p 24Hz signal to the TV (press TV menu OK while watching bluray).

Maybe some PS3 owners can help with suggested settings. With my Sony BDP370 the picture is amazing. Don't stress maybe some settings are off.

See if this helps:

Thanks guys. No it's not connected via HDMI. I need to buy a cable. However, the DVd quality is pretty good. I tried many settings on the TV. I tried the presets as well as the user settings. However, I'm not getting a satisfactory picture. In fact when I asked my friends who were also watching "is it me or is the Dvd PQ better" and they agreed as well. I don't know what the issue is. I'll try the PS3 settings as well. Do you think that connecting via HDMI will solve the problem? What are recommended tv settings for HD?

Suggest you get an HDMI cable to take full advantage.

These are my suggested TV settings. Please note that your display is pretty new so check the below settings but revert to a lower contrast to avoid ugly image retention.

SD:
Cinema
Just Scan
Contrast: 79 (increase by not much effect on SD).
Brightness: 52-54
Sharpness: 40
Color : 49/51
Tint: 0
Color Temp: W17/22 (as this way SD channels look cooler, not many will like the warmth)
Gamma: Medium
Black level: Low
All dynamic and NR off

HD:
Similar to above with exception:
Contrast: 82-84
Sharpness: 45-47
Color: 52-53
Color Temp: W26/W30 -depending on how warm you like the movies
