LG 50PK550R Owner's Discussion Thread

@heynownow

Sorry to hear about your TV. However relax it's under warranty and get them to replace it. Hope you get it soon!

@shaiju

Thanks for the link the other day. I tried those settings with the PS3 and they did help to a certain extent. However, I'm still not a 100% satisfied. Yet more tinkering pending:) I watched a couple of dvd's with my LG dvd player and the pq is stunning. The set handles motion very well.

The news of dead panel has made quite a splash. check this post on another thread :
Yes and many of the panels are dying also ..... Please read thru the LG owners thread carefully.. No rush take your time and buy the best.

I have been following this thread before/after buying 50PK550R. Newer heard of dead panels except from Heynownow. Is this a problem many have faced as said in above post?
Is that correct; i.e. did I miss news of other PK550 getting dead?
Or am I correct in saying that it is the first and only incident of dead panel?

Dotmac ,

I was totally prepared to go for LG brand but after reading some threads here I am now totally scared..

One I heard from mehuldil and second is this case ... Not sure whats going on with LG :sad:

Infact myself Chirag007 we were suppose to buy 4 of them and dropped at the end.

Well as update... for that Single line issue on Right side of my PJ560, LG is going to replace it one more time..

This would be the 3rd set now. They have to confirm the availability, and they will call me back on Wednesday.

Well I missed Mehul's panel getting dead. Hope its the last time you will be replacing :).

@Kittu,
Most TVs have some or the other weakness. Even the V20 owners complain about the set in their owner thread. So as you urself mentioned, take your time and go for the one that impresses you. Its a serious investment. So be cautious.
Its just that this year, most TVs are neck and neck. Last year it was all one way towards the B550.

One thing I liked is, LG seems to be generous about replacements. I had to really fight with Panasonic to get a replacement when my microwave owen went kapot after a week of usage. Legally their are just obliged to provide a free repair under warranty and hence it was very difficult for me to get it replaced by a brand new one.
LG seems to be generous as quite a few have got 3 ~ 4 sets replaced. :)

Mehul's panel did not die. Just a line missing.

LG seems to be very good at replacing sets. In all cases it's their fault to start with. Serves them good.

This year's LG PK550 seem to better the Samsung C550 in picture quality. Last year's B550 was really good. Shame that Samsung could not match it up with C550. Look out for C7000 - should be amazing.

kittu, the many is misleading a bit. You will fright away all PK550 buyers :)

This could be the 1st case, as the technician mentioned that mine was the first case of a dead PK he's ever seen. But rest assured, since LG is a generous company when it comes to replacements, the panel is still kickass when it works.

This TV sure has created a Stir :)

"Its time probably a group shld walk into LG office and let them know about these problems"

Kittu - believe me ..Shaiju has raised the flag.. and there have been N mails we have sent to COO level at LG India :)

Atleast one thing worth recommending is LG's service level...even though they might not do the complete correct job.. they are trying and have followed up immensely.

Mannu, did you have panel damage after using the breakin image slideshow by any chace?

:sad: Sorry to hear about that, I personally know how you might be feeling right now, when i bought the first display it was broken with a badly twisted edge and full diagonal break in the display screen, i felt like i just took 2 months of my earnings and flushed it down the drain, Let LG know of this, and don't show any sympathy to these people cos they don't deserve it, give them a peice of their mind and threaten them of going to consumer court from the first correspondence you make with these Sick people, that is the only way to get things in order, I had my display replaced 4 times, but i am pretty happy with the ONE i have now.

Now to answer your question, I didn't encounter such a problem with any of the three plasmas, so it is once in a blue moon thing, so don't worry bout it, just get the replacement done as soon as possible, and don't cut them any slack on this.

Okay i have played Uncharted 2, Modern warfare 2, Killzone 2 and many other FPS games on this display, and i don't feel a wee-bit input lag, although the input lag has been measured at 86 ms at AVS forums for HDMI but i have been enjoying my gaming to the fullest, so if you are asking "Do you feel any difference or have your stats suffered cos of this", THEN THE ANSWER IS PLAIN AND SIMPLE NO NO NO NO, IF the question is "Is there input lag?" then yes there is an input lag of 86ms. I have gamed on my display for continuous 13 hours and still didn't feel any kind of strain on my eyes, that's how pleasing the display is to your eyes, TRY doing that on a LCD and be ready for some tearful hours. the guys i was playing with were playing on a LCD and after 2 - 3 hours they were complaining of headache and signed out, i am sure they had watery eyes as well. So believe me or not but this is the best display I had for my gaming and it has enhanced my experience by 1000 times to say the least.

Now coming to my side of the story, i got my software update done yesterday evening, LG never called me so i had to threaten them ... ONCE AGAIN of dire consequences, and the next day i had a service engineer who knew nothing about software updates visiting my home, i got rid of him and didn't let him touch the display since i already had it replaced 4 times and this one was a flawless display no speck of dust no uniformity issue ... nothing at all ... TOUCH WOOD. So I called them and told LG not to send such people or i will not let them touch the display, so yesterday an engineer who knew what he was doing came and installed the new firmware, i asked him to get into the service menu and show me the version of the software, so it is confirmed from my side that the version now on my display is 3.28.

Now coming to the differences, I Didn't notice any difference at all, the green pixels are still there at level 57 of brightness as before, there aren't any features added neither are there any features deleted from the menu, PQ is still damn awesome and i haven't noticed a single thing different in my display, it probably was a futile exercise just to close doors on people like me who were making a lot of hu hallah about it.

Well a senior engineer came and checked out my TV. Yesterday 2 junior engineers came and opened up the set, and it was interesting to see the insides. The guy looked at it, and told me in that 4 days time (max) it would be replaced. No questions asked.

Well at least you have to hand it out to LG, that they offer to replace at a drop of a hat, instead of some other companies, who would make you wait a month while your product is going thru repairs.

Mannu, are you still using the plasma breakin slideshow? Should I do that when the replacement comes.
