LG 50PK550R Owner's Discussion Thread

There is no difference in specs if it's a PK550R. Honestly it doesn't make any diff where it is manufactured, Ind or Kr as PDP and SOC (XD engine) are sourced from Korea anyhow. The models for the US and Europe have those nice features for calibration, thx and bluetooth. And my nick is not honeynow

Apologies for the nick, Heynownow, can you atleast share where you saw the 50" Pk550 sporting a "Made in Korea" tag on display..

Watched American History X on BR and it's great to know that the cinematic grain quality is maintained. Just struggled a bit in the black and white flashbacks.

Can happliy say that for the price the set religiously does it's job.

SO what next on the LG Plasma Lineup?? The 3D ready 50PX950 ... thats a sweet TV, and from the US website, theres no price diff between the PK950 and the PX950...wonder why?

Probably they will introduce an "R" version of the TV and remove 3D ready feature including the calibration features. :ohyeah::lol::D

PK550R is a great TV and VFM. Picture quality is amazing. Connectivity options are great. I am able to connect Tatasky HD through both HDMI and component. HDMI goes through the receiver. Makes it simpler for my parents to watch Tatasky through component without switching on a lot of equipment. Got the Logitect harmony one remote, yet to configure the same. It will make life much easier.

After 3 months of usage my only problem with this TV is the retention issue, it is horrible, worse than the green pixel issue. I ensure to run the colour wash/whitewash before switching off the TV everytime.

Ye. And if someone complains, LG would respond that the feature is too complicated for the Indian consumers to use

How many hours has your TV run?
Since 250hrs, I have seen minimal TIR. I do use very high contrast when watching HD movies even with their black bars.
Also I connect it to my Mac and use it as a desktop. Generally people avoid this with PDPs as the menu items are static. Though I must admit that I don't use this way for long hours(not that i worry of TIR), I dont see much TIR.

Now that you says so, I will again carefully observe about this.
I had reached to a state that I have forgot about TIR.

Agree with Srinivas. TIR is terrible but the best part is it goes away in a minute of running color or white wash. Even after about 150 hours I could notice TIR but not that bad as it is made out to be. I suggest you run color wash for 15 minutes followed by 1 hour of continuous White wash with contrast set to 100. Nothing scientific in the specific procedure but running the white wash for a longer period makes the panel less prone to TIR. Just don't overdo it.

does pk550r have bluetooth compatibility??
else..does any 50" plasma have BT compatibility??..i need bt coz my mum sleeps very early and i need headphones to watch tv after 9..

lol.yea..that's always an option but just thought having bt compatibility would be better..to connect my phone directly too..
and read somewhere in hfv itself that pk550 comes with BT cmpatibiltiy..

so..i am mistaken then??

The Nordic version of this telly (Europe), The PK550N comes with BT

Oh and for all of you who think that the 50PK550R is manufactured in India, I can say that is not true. In fact, all LG/Samsung tellies of screen size 47" and higher are Korean CBUs.

The components imported and assembled here, right?

Rest of the pack - how is it going with the PK550? We haven't seen any pictures yet.

Am busy arranging for iPhone 4 from HK - the place on earth where it sells like hot cakes.

i almost decided on taking 50pk550r..so read all the posts in this thread carefully(not a mean task it is!;))
but every pk550 owner seems to be going through some trouble or the other with it..i know you are immediately gonna say it's all worth it and stuff..
but the thing is i would rather opt for a hassle-free less worthy tv than be troubled and strained with an awesome tv..

So is the tv really that troublesome or can i go ahead and take it tomorrow??

The TV is Best Bang for the Buck..:).. Two of my friends have and totally worth for the money no complaints... Dont worry about the green pixel or dancing pixel issues...... unless you are standing next to the TV they wont be visible......

The TV is meant for enthusiasts, a little bit of a labor of love. somewhat like a Nascar car. Wont be perfect out of the box, but with a little patience and care, she will deliver.
