LG 50PK550R Owner's Discussion Thread

Friends, bad news! A fault has cropped up in my PK550. The sound is coming but there is no picture. The complete PDP panel is without light. Thanks God! It happened within warranty period.. it was just 20 days to end.
LG service engineers visited and even without opening the back panel diagnosed that the main PCB is faulty and to be replaced. I got surprised when they say the lead time to get the main PCB is 10 days. Even if LG keeps the spares at one central store in India, it should not take more than couple of days to courier. I do not have any other option now than to wait.
Did any body have such problem? How was your experience with LG service?

Will keep you posted about the status.
It could well be the PDP panel as well. They should ideally order both even when their initial diagnostic points to the PCB.

Friends...I am relocating from Bangalore to Kolkata. I have a 50PK550. What precautions to take, and from where do I take out an insurance on it

I also noticed that LG's 2011 Plasma lineup is bloody lame. They do not have a SINGLE fullHD Plasma in the non 3D category. The only decent set is the 3D PZ550 series (Full HD) which will be 1lakh+. I guess the PK550 was the last affordable fullHD Plasma set available to Indian buyers, and now its been discontinued...sigh

I saw the PZ550 at Vijay sales. They fitted a badly modified PK550 with 3D and put it out there for consumers.

When will they realize that changing an alphabet does not magically translate in to a respectable display. Absolute joke! And I didn't even mention the price tag.

Hope you have kept the original packing material(including all the thermocol pieces). Just pack the TV as it arrived to your door. And during transportation ensure that the TV is always kept upright. Never lay is flat on ground during anytime.

Sorry no idea on insurance :(

So far none of the LG or Samsung Plasma displays have the wow factor. Maybe 3D is a bonus and inviting. Samsung is better than LG from what I have seen so far but both manufacturers have made no significant changes to their lineup from last year (leaving aside 3D of course).

Only Panasonic seems to have go it right. Waiting for a demo.

Edit: I miss the sharpness of LCD on PK550. It is set to 10. Even with 0 it seems not good enough. Samsung is better in this regard. Panasonic best.

Planned but not decided yet.

I am shying away from the prices for 2011 models. Panasonic 50V20 is a good option but I did rather go with latest models.

Wow. You are already up for an upgrade

I would need to do a major upgrade on the sound department and then get a projector before I would update my TV. And that means another 10 yrs may be

Man you guys are loaded! if you're replacing your 50" "working" plasmas within a year and a half. I know I cannot afford another plasma for a while, hence have to take the pain of relocating my set, instead of selling it and buying a new one, risking breakage in the process. Plus I got my PK550 for 54K, and I know there's not a chance in hell I can get an equivalent set at that price.

Anyone with a PK550 should not replace unless there are major flaws in picture or quality. It was excellent for it's price; even better in some regards than the C550.

I may move the LG to another room. Nothing is sure. Would replace only if I find another model worthy enough and (obviously) at a sensible price.
