If you are not toomuch into size go for Panny 42V20D

None of the 50 inch TVs are good for watching SD content..The SD content pixelation is much smaller compare to a HD one.. So when the TV gets too big and you watch it 16:9 mode it tries to expand that picture to fit the TV screen where you see lot of pixelation , boxes etc.... But the quality is improving these days... I can tell from neo sports where it started and where it is now.. much better.

Well I like the quality of HD far better on my PK550 than compared to my friends' 42" LCDs. Of course, while watching SD you'll have to maintain a respectable viewing distance of 9 feet atleast

Go through the PS50C6500 thread as well on hifivision. That should help you in making a decision. Although I own a 50PK550, the sammy seems like a better vfm set to me. Some features in sammy worth mentioning:
- Owner can upgrade firmware himself. Updates are available on samsung website.
- Plays more video formats out of USB compared to PK550.
- Ethernet ready.

LG 50PK550 is very good plasma considering it's price tag. Between the two Samsungs I would go for the PS50C6500.

Samsung C6500 is better looking, has additional features and the picture is good too. It does have some issues with fast moving scenes. The LG handles motion very well. Suggest you demo motion before you strike a deal. It can be disturbing at times.

Last note, be warned of possible hassles in getting a good PK550.

ive been through this dilemma and finally got the c6500. it surpasses the pk550 according to me. however the price difference is substantial.
the pk550 should cost you (mumbai prices)59k while the c 6500 will be around 71k but do check the thread on the c6500 a good deal might still be on.

.

Congrats on your purchase.
I also used to believe that c6500 is better than pk550. But, I changed my opinion since I heard about the buzz and motion judder issues in c6500. Thankfully, pk550 does not have these issues.

The bottom line is that there is no such things as a 'perfect' set!

Hey guys,

I am in the same eternal dilemma too......LG50PK550 or Panasonic 42V20D....size doesn't matter but I am really having trouble to make a choice......Plz help me out...

Did u read the 110 pages ? Also read the thread by Vramak on Panny V20 . Even that is near 100 pages. Still confused go with samsung 50C6500 :D

Hey ppl,

I would be thankful if anyone can suggest a good price and the corresponding showroom for the LG PK550 in Hyderabad... also does the TV play .mkv files via USB?

@shaiju......wats ur impressions on the LG since u have been using one....

Good. There are better ones out there but costs much more. If your plan is for a new Plasma set then hold back the temptation for couple of months. Samsung, LG and Panasonic should come up with much better sets in 2011 (and more features at lower prices). Plasmas do 3D better. Looks like a revival of so-called dead technology.

I recommend PK550 if you can get hold of a problem free set. As for me, very satisfied.

Planning to replace LG 50PK550.

Plasma
I was hoping Panasonic would be great buy but looks like their prices will still be brutal. LG Plasma initial feedbacks are not too great. Samsung D6900/D7000 not launched in India. Not even the 59 inchers. Still wary about the LEDs (motion, blacks and light bleed) unless kittu can convince me :p

LED-LCD
LG 5700 looked great in 2D/3D but does not do full justice to blacks. Samsung is way overpriced.

Whats with the blacks in color TVs :p ? I am done with my amp hunt , so will now be fulltime on the LED/Plasma tv hunt.. Planning to demo the HX 925 this weekend (Demo Only).

D 7 and 8 series are way over priced in indian market. Hope panasonic drop a few kilos and make flat thin panels in future. Design they can mock lg or samsung panels and technology maintain panny standards ..That would make a nice TV isnt it.:)

Having said that , LG PK ans Sammy PS series are VFM plasmas for the size and price. Wish panny could join the same league someday to attract more buyers.

Can you comment on power consumption? Is it true that LG 50 inch plasma consumes 177watt typically, whatever that means, as the spec says? Samsung D550 seems to consume 350watts? Why so much difference? Is it because of some difference in 3D tech between the two?

Truth be told, I never paid attention to the power consumption parameter. I was aware that Plasmas consume more power than LCDs. I did not notice any shocking surge in power bill after I got the PK550. Maybe ?10-20 per month.

You are right. 3D mode consumes more power. Again, I cannot put a definite cost or statistics to it.

What I can say though is that my Denon AVR is proving to be power guzzler. Electricity bill has shot up by ?300-500.

Friends, bad news! A fault has cropped up in my PK550. The sound is coming but there is no picture. The complete PDP panel is without light. Thanks God! It happened within warranty period.. it was just 20 days to end.
LG service engineers visited and even without opening the back panel diagnosed that the main PCB is faulty and to be replaced. I got surprised when they say the lead time to get the main PCB is 10 days. Even if LG keeps the spares at one central store in India, it should not take more than couple of days to courier. I do not have any other option now than to wait.
Did any body have such problem? How was your experience with LG service?

Will keep you posted about the status.

LG service is pretty good. They replaced 5 faulty units I received. However, getting them to acknowledge that they can do better to avoid such issues is a waste of time. Patience is the key. Ensure there is a record / reference of your interaction with LG as warranty end is not too far.
