A Unique thread, where We shall share our experiences of meeting with a HFV Member.

@ Mods: Searched for such topics, couldn't find any. If any similar threads (maybe with different titles) available, please merge :). Thank You.

My Experience: Yes, I got a chance to meet a Forum member here in Bangalore. Got a call yesterday at 11:40am from a new number, the Gentleman introduced self as Capt.Rajesh :). Was very happy, as it was the first time I was speaking to a HFV member. Spoke to him for a few minutes, came to know He was about to leave for Chennai. Now, I didn't want to miss the opportunity of meeting Captain, so asked Him where he was at that time, came to know that he was just 4 kms away from my place. Spoke to Captain about our meeting possibilities, and the answer from him was positive. Raced from home to the meeting point, Met Captain, had a chat with him for some time, Captain had to reach Chennai early due to some urgent work, so the meeting was to be short. But then, when we were about to leave, Dhimak ki bathi switched on, asked captain which route He will be taking, it was the ring road, asked Him whether I can join, Captain readily agreed. So, got chance to spend some more time, then Captain made a Wonderful Purchase (Was with Him at that time), Expect a new purchase thread soon. It was a Wonderful Experience meeting You Captain. Thank You :). Congrats for the New Purchase. Enjoy!!!!!

Capt. Rajesh is a Soft spoken, Friendly and a Fine Gentleman. I am Happy, I got a New Friend. Thank You HiFiVision :).

Hi Mahesh

Sorry buddy, somehow missed the thread. (now a days, due to paucity of time, not reading all threads)

I had responded to Mahesh's offer of Ipod sale. Wanted to gift it to kids to groom them into audiophiles:D But at the same time, another member was also selling Ipod & the dock as well so thought that is a better deal as he can use the dock to connect his PSP for better sound. That deal went through.

Before leaving, thought of calling all those who responded to my requests etc. Santhol lives closeby but was at office  and spoke to Anilkumar.

I was very happy at the prompt response and helpfulness of Mahesh.

Wish to see more positive minded people like you.:clapping:

Fantastic thread Mahesh, I wanted to start a new thread to write about my meeting Vinay, the hometheater man this Saturday. But will write here itself tomorrow.

Before leaving, thought of calling all those who responded to my requests etc. Santhol lives closeby but was at office  and spoke to Anilkumar.
It was great talking to you Captain:). We shall definitely catch up next time you are in Bangalore or I am in Chennai.

Hi Santhol,are you in Mumbai?
Vinay was in Bangalore for a day. Vinay and I have had many offline conversations over phone on various topics including Home Theater, Audio, Video, Healthy life, morality, life in general etc. We had invited each other to our places several times, but somehow our travel plans never materialised.

Then suddenly one day, Vinay put up his DVD player on auction -> proceeds of which were donated to hifivision. Rest is history, Suri won the auction. Vinay was not confident about sending the DVD player via courier. One day during our conversation, I mentioned to Vinay that Suri frequents Bangalore on his audio yatras. Vinay immediately said I will come to Bangalore, meet you, hand over the DVD player and return. I was plesantly shocked. Not many people would do this. Other member that I can include in this category of travelling just to meet people, listen to their are systems etc are Suri, iaudio, venkatcr, GeorgeO (I admire these guys and am a wannabe).

Vinay was at my place around 10AM on Saturday. I wanted to pick him up from the station, but he just would not let me take the trouble. So much so that he did not disclose to me the train\bus\airplane number that he was travelling by. He told me he would be home any time between 6AM and 12 PM that day and that was sufficient information for me:cool:.

When I saw him get off the taxi, both of us were surprised as we had a totally different picture of each other in our mind. Also, I had been to Tirupathi and had my head shaven, so I can imagine Vinay's thoughts:).

We had breakfast at a nearby restaurant (wifey was away) and then checked out my dedicated Entertainment Room. We then spent rest of the day as below:

Listened to music while I was tweaking the system
Played some action scenes on Blu-rays - Transformers, Bourne Ultimatum etc
Drank Coffee/Tea at regular intervals
Relished some sweets that Vinay had got for us
Had lunch with my dad, who passionately discussed his audio days. Both were pleased to meet each other.
Discussions about the forum and members:ohyeah:
Watched some more action scenes from movies

I had planned an afternoon session wherein Bangalore Videofreaks and Vinay could meet, share our views, tastes, exchange a few Blu-rays etc. Since my Entertainment room cannot accomodate too many people, I had informed only for Subhash, sud98, Konfused, Aneelr, GeorgeO and cmsajith. Konfused could not make it because of some Konfusion about address, phone numbers etc (my mistake) and Aneelr, GeorgeO and cmsajith could not make it due to sudden change in plans/work/life's surpirses etc.

So Subhash and his son Sidharth dropped in and Sud98 joined us soon after. We then watched a few scenes from Avatar, Layer Cake, Dark City etc. Vinay then explained why he gave away his DVDs and DVD player and how he has adopted the Media Player route for movies. Subhash was enthralled by the convenience and ease of use of players like Xtreamer, WD Live etc.

I then gave everyone a demo of Squeezebox, which did for me for audio what Xtreamer did for Video. I still listen via CDP and watch Blu-rays, just that these offer some convenience at the loss of some detail.

We then wound up the day, all of us said our good-byes. Again Vinay would not let me drop him to the station, so got him into a rick and he started his journey back to Mumbai with fond memories of his quick visit to Bangalore:clapping:.

About Vinay, he is a very softspoken, frank, practical, no hassles kinda guy. He believes in using latest technology to make life simpler, always willing to help and share. He loves movies and can remember the story, names, scenes from all movies. He is particularly interested in action scenes, ones with good LFE (Low Frequency Extension). He is also very passionate about this his Home Theater and has put a lot of effort in to building it. He tries to spend as much time as possible in it - easily 8 to 10 hours a day. It was a pleasure having you over Vinay...Thanks:).

Sometime soon, I will be travelling to Mumbai to meet Vinay and other Mumbai HFVians. I also have plans to visit Kannur and Chennai, hopefully they materialise soon.

You are welcomed.Thats nice Banglore meet.
As per I know,Vinay prefers to watch atleast 2 movies every week.He doesnt listen music that much.
He is very kind in sharing the things.I cld get my very 1st HD movies from him (& Hemant).
Thanks Vinay.

Nice sweet short report of the Bangalore Mini meet. Wish I could join :( was so eagerly waiting for the meet. Santhosh, please post some pics also if you have taken any.

I also had an mini meet 3 weeks before with Sud98 and AmritKeerti at my place. I think Sudhir has posted about that in some thread. Nice meeting it was.

I met BLASTO, ironhorse, addagalla on this forum..
a mini Hyd meet around Feb-2010 at BLASTO's house..
we quickly compared WDTV-gen1 against Xtreamer-gen1..
then a long detailed home demo of BLASTO's B450 Plasma..I later purchased the same..

:)

Nice report. I hoped to make it to Santhosh's place last Saturday, but something came up and wasn't able to. I'm hoping to make it to Madras sometime before the end of the year.

Re: Met Someone from our Forum?. ? - SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCES HERE.

Mine is differenet experience. Due to power cut I took out my ipod classic sony media player and creative zen. I went through some queries about good head phones since my sen px 100 and hd 457 found fault with them. I started queries in the forum. Mr.Muthuswami and Mr. Iaudio responded well and gave me good ideas Mr.Muthuswami go ahead sending his own philips she 8900 iem to me for demo. In the same way Mr. Iaudio also sent his fiio e5 amp for demo. I myself would have been in hesitation in responding like this. Bec I was a stranger but only known through hifivision. I was moved by their gesture. I have never seen them in person. But they are my friends now. Frequently we have pep talks. Mr. Muthuswami gave away his iem for cheaper rate than he purchased. I was little worried when i came to know it was very hard to him to buy a new same piece in the market. These are some examples there are more unseen forum friends also. Very soon I would try to meet them in person. thanks hifivison

WARNING LONGISH POST FOLLOWS

Well have met quite a few guys thanks to HFV

The First guy I met was Ramesh (hifipal4all)
I actually enlisted here to sell a pair of B&W 603 S3. Checked out some of the threads and thought some of the questions were not 'really answered' so replied to some queries and suddenly in about 15 minutes of my advt for sale I got a call from a Ramesh babu. Spoke well and I told him my price and in about 2 more minutes the guy convinced me to sell it to him. Said he would fly down to bbay & fly back!!!! Said he knew some friends in bbay and we fixed for a sunday.
At about 7.00 AM i get a call from Ramesh that he is in bbay and the cabbie is taking him for a joyride!!! Then the cabbie abandons him somewhere on peddar road and poor Ramesh was worried. Got up from my slumber and rushed to fetch him. Some mix up as I expected him to reach my home at about 11 AM so was not prepared that early in the morning. Anyway Ramesh carefully heard the speakers and played some Indian Classical music which was new to both my wife & me. He listened so carefully that I felt I was disturbing him with general conversation.
Then by early afternoon we went out for an Idli, Dosa lunch and Ramesh wanted to try the bbay 'Pav Bhaji". After that it was time to pack the speakers and Ramesh was to head to a friends home and stay for a few days and explore Bbay.
Now the poor guy kept dialing his buddy but just got no answer and he was geting edgy. Finally he reached his friend in the evening only to be told the dude was not in bbay and ramesh was totally stranded in bbay with a return ticket a couple of days later!!!! Finally we put the speakers (massive cartons) in my car and we bought a train ticket (in black) for the night train and the champion told me he will reach bglore next morning at about 9.AM. He was by then a friend and I really liked this simple south Indian guy so I checked out his bogie/ his berth and put the speakers and him there and ran out of the station (Dadar terminus if I am correct) and got him an assortment of all foods that one generally associates with bbay and what I could find in a hurry outside dadar TT (vada pav etc etc)
Was one funny day with a person who was a total stranger in the morning and a friend by night time. Ramesh called like I had requested him to early next morning and told me the train would reach bglore not at 9. AM but 9 PM and we both had one hearty laugh!!!

Second guy I met was Kunal (2leftears)
Venkat this guy is also a pilot in the IAF and is a lovely guy. He is currently based in some place in interior Punjab. He had started a few threads and was keen to acquire a decent HIFI. Poor guy was so confused with the tons of answers that he finally dug up my number and called me. We fixed up with a few vendors to send him a few speakers that he was keen on. He kept posting on his thread and even though he had the speakers in his home was totally confused. Finally on Sunday night (was to return the speakers the next day) he called me and said Im Scr.......... as I just cant decide and we made a plan that I would go over immediately and help him decide. Now the guy lived in bandra and I am pretty far from there. By the time I reached him it was midnight and we heard his various options till very very late and then decided that all options sounded pretty ordinary in his room and that we must explore a few floor standers instead!!!!!!!!! Came home at about 4.AM and my wife thought I had to be mad:D
Kunal finally bought a Monitor audio RS 6 and a Musical Fidelity amplifer and was really happy the last I spoke to him.:D

Next dude was the rally driver 'Madjack". He had the knack of shoving his maruti swift into spaces that didnt exist!!!! After many many looooooooong conversations we finally said we have to go together and get him a set up. So I met this chap who was great fun. Lively guy with tons of ideas .
Long story short with this chap: He is still searching for that power amp that we went to buy sometime in 2008!!!!!!!!!!

Next guy is 'Particleman".
Soft spoken, almost shy young guy. Very polite and 'correct'. We went along together for a few auditions and he bought an Arcam cdp & amp for the Monitor audio speakers he already had. The guy works hard and has erratic hours so is hardly in touch and hardly ever logs on to the forum. Very straight forward and a really nice bloke.

Next dude is Nero.
Nirav has a home in bbay but currently lives in Surat. Well Nirav needs no gyaan on HIFI as he has a few buddies who are more than well versed on the subject.
Met him at a bar late at night as I had bought a Kimber 4 TC from a friend of his and I was to collect the cable. Got to know him pretty well and have met him a couple of times after that including a meal at his home in Bombay. Met some of his audiophile buddies and heard his newly set up HIFI over tons of beer & pizza.

Have met quite a few more guys and have spoken on the phone to guys from all over the country and almost all of them come across as nice blokes.

........... end of part 1.

Hey Madjack got his power amp.actually we became good friends and met 5-6 times.Once I arranged some LPs for him.

Currently our discussion is more towards life in general, gadgets, househunting etc.:)

not many ppl like u arnd Dinyaar who wud go all out to help total strangers like this.

I totally agree. I used to be like what Dinyaar described about himself about 20 years ago.

Encountered many selfish narrow minded people who not only took advantage of me but even think I'm naive.

So changed myself to suit the world.:o

Hi Dinyaar,

Yup particleman is indeed a soft spoken intelligent gentleman.

Capt Rajesh,

Agree with you completely. You meet all kinds. So for me while I still invite people over there's no chance anybody's touching my tubes. Now while that might be fodder the ilks of gobble and suri you know what i mean :D

Had a real sauer kraut once screw up my cart. The tip had gone but I would have been able to exchange it for a new one when I took it back to Sushil at Nova Audio, either for free or a nominal amount, this bugger comes along, is supposedly a bangalore dealer who knows turntables and the stuff but in fact has never even heard of the blue point special which was weird cos it's a popular cart like the denon dl 103, denon 110, etc... doesnt even know it doesnt come with a stylus guard, taps the cantilever heartily to 'check' it and breaks it and insists I should have stored it with the non-existent stylus guard on and it was my fault for not doing so . Result: instead of an exchange had to fork out the dough for a new cart. After this damned if I'm letting anybody touch anything when they're over. So do beware of people being too touchy feely when you invite them over!

The good side is you meet lots of good people! Won't start naming cos I've got a frightful memory and don't want to offend people by inadvertently leaving names out :D

Hi Steven,

I guess you might find this useful.
