You read right. Amazon UK ships BD's via Royal Mail or sometimes by DHL Express. In the case of Royal Mail, the India leg is via India Post.

The one time I got BD's via DHL Express I think the India leg was via DHL India.

Larger packages are via i-parcel, the courier service from hell.

So after its shipped, one just has to wait and cant know how it will come?

With Amazon UK's standard shipping or whatever it is called, yes. If you want tracked shipping Amazon UK offers priority shipping which is tracked, but more expensive. That said, every single order has reached me, though some have gotten delayed by almost a month, depending on whether it is during the UK/Europe holidays or holidays in India. Either way, it shows up one day or the other.

If your shipment does not turn up by the estimated date, contact Amazon UK. They usually ask you to wait another five days or so and if it still has not arrived, you reply to their e-mail and they ship you a replacement at no extra cost. If the original turns up and you also get the replacement, you ship one of them back to them and they refund you the postage.

My experience till now.

1) Amazon UK
- Have received all parcels in timely manner. With 1 or 2 exceptions, delay of 1 week max.
- Never received damaged parcel.
- Have always used free normal shipping.
- Have paid duty on 40% of the orders. ~21% most of the times. ~37% couple of times.
- Locally delivered by post.

2) Amazon DE
=> Experience with Deutsche Post
- 80% of my orders till now are shipped by Deutsche post. Received all in 5-6 business days. Yes that's true.
- No duty on any parcel.
- Just one bad incident. Received TDKR steelbook damaged. Returned and incurred 500 bucks loss.
- locally delivered by post.

=> Experience with i-parcel
- couple of orders are shipped by i-parcel till now. 1, I received after 2 months.
- 1 yet to receive, just shipped before 2 days. So expecting it after a month minimum.
- No duty on any parcel yet.
- locally delivered by DTDC

3) Amazon FR
- Only once used. Received order in timely manner.
- Order was shipped by Deutsche post. I know, strange.
- Parcel was big, so incurred ~21% duty.
- Locally delivered by post.

4) Amazon US
- Not using it since last 4-5 months.
- All orders were shipped by aramex.
- Received in timely manner.
- No duty on any parcel.
- locally delivered by aramex.

6) Amazon JP
- just used once. By far the best exp. Will receive in 3 days.
- Order shipped by DHL.
- Yet to receive, so no idea on duty.
- Will be shipped locally by DHL.

Over all I have paid duty on 50-60% of my orders IMO. And till now only once received damaged parcel, and till now only 1 parcel came after significant delay.

i-parcel is indeed worst service. Their tracking is never up-to-date, and customer service is joke.

@crossbow, Amazon, US charges "Import Duty Deposit" at the time of order. This is roughly 26~27%. So this is like paying duty, isn't it?

Yes, it's like that. You just deposit the duty amount at the time when placing order.
If no duty charged, you need to inform amazon CC and they will refund the amount. Now a days, they refund the amount directly to your credit card. Before some time they were also providing gift certificates if you ask.
Similar, if less duty charged.

And If high duty charged you will need to pay aramex guy the difference when accepting the parcel.

Now a days amazon US has started shipping by i-parcel. So be careful while placing order. i-parcel is horrible.

That ought NOT to be the case. Aramex have been stiffing you for the excess unless such purchases were from Amazon Marketplace. If you have the receipts of the excess collected, contact Amazon US and see if you can get Amazon to give Aramex a whack or four across their behind and you a refund.

Amazon US Import Fee Deposit Amazon.com Help: International Shipping clearly indicates

For AmazonGlobal items, you won't be charged additional fees if the actual Import Fees exceed the Import Fees Deposit we estimated. For items sold by Amazon Marketplace sellers, please check the seller's policies.

Crap!!! Those morons from i-parcel. There go my plans of ordering from Amazon US. i-parcel truly are the joke of the courier industry, unfortunately at our time and expense.

How do you get to know whether the duty has been charged or not? It is not there in the delivery challan.

If the courier is DHL, Fedex, UPS or maybe even Aramex call their CC and ask them to e-mail you a scanned copy of the Customs Bill of Entry which will show whether duty was paid or not, how it was calculated and how much.

Let me see if I can find an image and will post a BOE.

Courier's are supposed to provide the BOE as proof of duty paid and if they can't / don't you can then tell Amazon that no duty paid proof was provided and ask for a refund of the Import Fee Deposit.

These kind of receipts you should get if duty is charged, and parcel is shipped by aramex

When I am charged customs for my post parcels, I am given this type of customs receipt.

This is not my customs receipt, but I get exact same receipts if items delivered by india post and if customs is charged.

I ordered few BDs and Amazon US shipped the same in 3 shipments .. one was thru DHL, which I received and there was no additional receipt like the one you have mentioned. So can I assume no duty paid?

The balance two are thru Aramex, and still to reach me/ India. So there I will get such receipts, in case duty is paid, right? How would I know if no duty paid?

Now the issue is do I need to raise a refund request for duties or it will be done automatically? (so far I believed it is done automatically and no such request need to be raised)

Yes, If you did not get any receipt, no custom was charged. You are very lucky in this case, as parcels which come via DHL or FedEx are 99% charged duty. For me at-least.

Similar for aramex, if you are given any of the above shown receipts, duty is charged and aramex has paid that amount.

If no receipt is produced by aramex at time of delivery then yes, duty is not charged.
I do remember amazon US has stated in their help page that if duty is not charged, it will get refunded automatically.

For me, when I got nolan collection from amazon US, duty was not charged. And it even did not get refunded automatically. So I had to contact amazon US CC, and it was refunded after some 10-15 days in my CC account.

Do not worry, as this is quite usual process. @bluraymaniac with some other members here too, have also received deposit amount back, after contacting amazon CC.

It is possible that package is stuck at the regional gpo hq.

Hang in there it will get to you. As you said the holidays could have got in the way or our customs and/or post office are sitting on it for a while. I know the feeling, the first order at Amazon UK I watched the estimated date like a hawk. Now I just order and forget about it until the shipment shows up.

You can consider contacting Amazon. Since the estimated delivery date has passed without delivery they will ask you to wait another five days and then contact them again if the shipment has still not reached you. If after those addl. five days you haven't received the shipment, just reply to the e-mail they sent asking you to wait and they'll ship you a replacement at no extra cost. I suggest allowing a bit of time around the estimated delivery date and the extension date to avoid the hassle of shipping the extra back if you end up with two shipments. Amazon CC is great so don't worry they'll either ship you a replacement or if you want you can ask for your money back.

Super deal and looking forward to more now. I will keep an eye out for those which really are a visual treat on HD, those are the best blu rays to buy IMHO.

Hi.

I bought some stuff (5 products) from Amazon (US) on 24th November, 2012 which I got in first week of December. Total order was of US$ 191.19 including Import Fees Deposit of $41.96.

It was delivered by Aramex in 3 parts by Aramex. Aramex did not provide any document related to custom duty for any of the shipments.

I did not get any refund from Amazon. I could not find a link on their website to contact them about this issue.

How should I go ahead with it ?

Import Fee Deposit will be refunded by Amazon 60 days after the shipment date if customs duty was not paid.

If 60 days have passed post the ship date and you aren't refunded, logon to Amazon, click the Help link, click Contact Us. Select your Order, select Returns and Refunds then Other Order Issues, in the summary indicate Refund of Import Fee Deposit, select Send us an E-mail. In the contents indicate that Import Fee Deposit was collected, but no proof of Customs Duty paid was provided by the courier and ask for a refund.

Thanks. I sent them an email even if it is not 60 days yet. Let them tell me to do it again after 60 days. :)

Edit: I got reply.

Hello,

I'm sorry to hear about the problem you had with your import fees.

Whenever the actual import fee deposit collected is less than we estimated, we'll issue a refund for the difference.

We'll send you an e-mail once the refund goes through. Keep in mind that the process takes 60 days from the shipment date.

We look forward to seeing you again soon.
