My home theater

Hi Murli,

I am about to start the brick work on Roof top. Pls guide me on what are the things I need to consider during the brick work. Do i need to do the wiring planning both for electrical and electronic cable management respectively.

Ideal Door / Window placement.

Pls let me know...

Rgds,
Samrat

Hello Samratsarkar,
First of all i would like to know wether you are going for projector or a audio listening room and the size of you room.
Finish the brickwork first and before plastering the wall do all the wireing for electrical outputs as well as speaker wires , If you are going for proj then you have to decide your avr placement and proj placement and you have to connect the avr and proj with 11/2" pipe for HDMI cable and power cable from avr to proj, and if you go for 5.1 setup, you have to decide the speaker placement and you have to put 1/2" pipe lines from the speaker position to AVR, and you have to decide your sub position possibly near the screen, you have to leave a power supply to the sub.

Hi Murali,
Regarding the Screen wall -
1. By mistake the workers made the wall flat as I was not there during the wall construction. Any way out to make it curved?
2. Since I will be using the wall as the screen similar to yours .. need to know the treatment you did for screen wall. Paint and color used by you.

Pls do reply..

Regards,
Samrat

Hi Murali,
Pls let me know how you have done 15 degree curve for the screen. Instructions given to the workers. I have tried but they are yet to understand. Let me know the process for measuring 15 degree so that i can show it to them..

Samrat

Hi ..
the setup in he first page looks excellent and inspiring for the HT music lovers..
Well to construct a curved wall u require skilled & experienced Mason ... don't leave it in the hands of unskilled workers...(Beleive it or not I'm a Civil Engineer..even I faced many problems when constructing my own home..)
The mason will not understand in degrees ..U may need to make a mark it on the floor with lime powder (using trignometrical calculations wrt to the length of wall)...ask ur friends in kolkata for construction /civil engineers..
Hope it may helps u to hhave better finish of curved wall..

Good luck..

Otherwise ask a carpenter to bend a plywood (good finsihed) with frame & fix it on the wall .U can get the help of some interior decorators in your area ...

Hello Rajithkumar, thank you,
Hello Samrat,
Take 23 feet thread tie a chalk piece in the end, nail the other end of the thread at the center of the oppsite wall , try to draw a arc on the floor on the screen wall side with 12" depth in the center, and you have to build the wall along the curved line, you might have to adjust the length of the thread so that you get a 12" depth. For the wall treatment i put the wall putty uniformly few times and used asian paint white matt finish 3 coats.
As my advice for a screen size lessthan 10 feet width, a plain wall screen will serve the purpose well.
Thank you,
Murali.

Murali,

I just noticed that you have Klipsch 7.1 speaker system. I just upgraded my speaker system to Klipsch RB 81-II package along with 2 Velodyne Subwoofers - EQ Max 12 and EQ Max 10. I am powering my Klipsch speakers using 2 Emotiva Power amps. 140w/ch Emotiva XPA-200 for Front L&R and 80w/ch UPA-500 for center and surrounds and Denon 2310 AVR for surround backs. I just setup the system and didn't really play it fully. I am yet to re-configure my sub woofers.

I would like to know the Klipsch speaker performance in your room. My room is exactly the same size as yours and and I have done similar acoustic treatment in my room. My Klipsch speakers are almost similar to yours except that my center channel is slightly more sensitive @98db and my front L&R are big bookshelves with 97db sensitivity.

Would really appreciate to know your experience in the performance of your Klipsch speakers in filling your HT room with reference level movie surround sound output :). Also would like to know whether you have done Audyssey on your Denon and what volume level you usually listen to get a room filling sound mainly for Hollywood movies.. I would also like to know the individual channel levels you have set for speakers and Subwoofer in Denon 1911.

Hello santhukp and tumula !
Thank you for your compliments..

Hello John K Anthony !
I will check the details and come back to you tomorrow, The volume level for my 1911 is around 72-75db for movies, it fills the room easily no problem at all for me. Now only i bought pioneer bdp 450 (made region free with the help of FM manoj ) and noticed the usage of rear speakers by accidentally discovering 7.1 HD audio from The Hunger games, Real steel & Transformers-Dark of the Moon blurays, I felt that rear speaker volume is little low. earlier i run audessy and never changed individual settings except changing the left and right towers to small in the setup as said by the tech person from coimbatore.

Hi Murali,

Thank you very much for the info. I had to crank up the volume to 81 (0db) to get a room filling sound. I would like to know your channel level setting as well. I have kept all the levels to 0db and surrounds are at -4.5db.

Thanks,
John.
