Hi all,

This is my first post.

I am planning to buy a LED LCD TV.

My Budget is around 80k

My Hall is about 15 ft X 17 ft (and the approx viewing distance would be no less than 10~12 ft). I have decided that the panel should be a minimum of 42 inches (PLEASE HELP ME!! Is the size decided correct? or should it be larger?).

Main expectations (most expected to the least):
1. Good PQ (atleast 40-42inches) and after sales service and warranty.
2. Out of the box smart features (assuming inbuilt wifi and an ethernet port (RJ 45) comes under this!)
3. Multi format playback (via usb)
4. 3D (not a big fan, but expected from my parents!)

I have looked around(in the showrooms), read quite a few threads here and other blog posts,

Decided the following:
1. Sony W850a
2. LG LA6910
3. And everyone's favourite Panasonic E6D/E6B (if available).

Please let me know if i should be looking at any other model(s)!!

The first two panels(above) were quoted - 78-85k.

cheers.

For your viewing distance you can go for 46 or 47 inches...all tvs u picked are good..850 for good 2d pq and 6910 for good 3d...

go for sony 40w900
thanks..but 40 inch is way too small..is it not?

For your viewing distance you can go for 46 or 47 inches...all tvs u picked are good..850 for good 2d pq and 6910 for good 3d...

thanks...again went to respective showrooms...lg 6910 42" is quoted 82.5k with free 3d blu-ray player + 500 GB HDD + 4 3d glasses + 3 Blu-ray discs (my parents eyes lit up on hearing this!! :))

sony w850a is quoted 83.5k with sony head phones (costs about 12k - i dont believe this)...couldn't haggle with sony people...

confused still....i am sort of leaning towards LG now...3d is awesome in this set....is the 2d PQ that bad compared to sony??

please help FM's!!!

Thanks.

W850 does not have local dimming so black level will be average. For your viewing distance 47 inch is minimum. I am assuming you will be mostly watching HD/Blu ray content. I have 40W900 and which I watch from 8-10 feet. Now I feel the screen size is small! Sony W900 has excellent 2D/3D PQ. For good sound you will need home theatre system. I have attached Onkyo for a complete experience. I believe Sony Quality is better than Samsung/LG.

thanks...but my budget is the problem here...could not afford another 15-20k here...my budget is around 80-85k.....i can always give up 3D...what i expect is good PQ, service, warranty...

last quote lg la6910 42 - 82.5k (with free BD player, 500GB HDD and 3BD movie discs)

sony w850a - 83.5k

all chennai velacheri prices (all exclusive showrooms)!!

IS there a good 46-47 inch panel with good PQ (expecting a 100-120hz panel) with good internet options?

Go for Sony. You will only compromise on black level.

How about w700a 46 inch...more or less the same price as w850a....no 3D thats not a problem...

please let me know...what else would i be missing (important stuff)??

thanks all.

If you want to stick to LED, then go for W850A. If 3D is a priority, I would suggest you to go for LA6910, it's excellent.

As you'll be seeing from 10-12ft, 42" will appear too small in a week or so. You'll regret about that size then. I would suggest you a 50".

If you can demo Panasonic E6D and like it, then you can go for it but you won't get smart features like those above-mentioned models.

If you've nothing against plasma, I can suggest you Panasonic S60 which you can get in 50" and will fit your budget. PQ will be excellent when compared to those 3 models or any LED model. You'll have LAN and few apps too. Multi-format playback and no 3D. You can purchase 2-years extended warranty or they're still offering 3-years warranty. Check that with different store, some are still offering in your area.

Go for LA6910.. It has excellent 2D and 3D with best smart features available in any brand.

Sony is strictly for 2D PQ.. Sound quality is not great and so are the black levels and screen uniformity specially - W850 which has clouding issue's too.
Sony has a clunky remote on other side LG, Samsung and Panasonic has next Gen Remote control's.
LG, Panasonic and Samsung UI is far better than Sony's UI (OUTDATED)

LA6910 is defiantly better than W850 in terms of Black levels, Screen uniformity, Sound Quality, Smart features, Best 3D experience, Magic Motion Remote,
2D to 3D Conversion and of course Excellent PQ for both SD and HD.

Having said that choose W900 over LA6910 if you can afford it.

Make a wise decision.

NO 3D? then better go for Samsung Smart TV or Panasonic, ignore SONY if you want better Smart Tv Experience.:ohyeah:

With new year discount sale you can get at good rates.Try to get quotes from multiple traders.Recently my cousin picked up Panasonic e6d 42 inch from viveks for 53k.croma too offering free blurayplayer with 3d TVs.

went to the panasonic showroom at alwarpet, chennai finally...could not get to see the 50 inch on display...but got to see the e6d 42 inch...looked brilliant....

but sadly the sales person would only go for about 61k for 42 inch and 83.5k for 50 inch....

aargh..how are people getting the 42inch for 53k and the 50 inch for 74-78k???

any suggestions anybody...

on the bright side i can get the lg 6910 42" for about 75k (without the free BD player) and the 47" for 90-93k (hoping the dealer would do the same as for the 42")...will go tomorrow and check again...fingers crossed..

sony w850a final quote comes around 83k...with some crappy headphones...sigh..

finally went to the panasonic showroom at alwarpet, chennai. 50" e6d was not on display but the 42" was. Awesome build quality, neat picture (but not as great as sony w850a...atleast to my eyes..sorry people!!)

sad news 42" - 61k and 50" - 83.5k...how are people getting it for 53k and 74-78k respectively...

on the bright side i could get lg 6910 for 75k(42 inch) and 90-93k(47 inch)...fingers crossed...need to go again tomorrow..

dont waste ur hard earned money for them

believe in sony .. got for it .. keep HD connection .. enjoy

sony w850 is awesome tv.. but black levels are very low as it dint have local dimming

but the one i demoed was an Panasonic LED. The E6D..

1) Panasonic is moving out of plasma business in India. So don't invest in that. There are lot of service related issues. Also Panasonic Top end LEDs are inferior to Sony top end models.
2) Sony Smart TV features are better but not the best. Samsung is best but do smart TV matter in India? I feel it is a marketing gimmick at the best.
3) Sony 2D/3D PQ is outstanding. due to triluminous technology. Compare red color rendering on any other TV with Sony. Check Amazon review for W900. It has 5 stars!
4) Clouding will happen on any edge-lit LED TV. It is only visible on white background so may not be an issue with day-to-day viewing.
5) LED black levels will be always below par Plasma. IF you want better blacks in LED, go for local dimming technology such as in Sony W900.
6) Sony Quality is better that LG/Samsung, specially for panels where it matter most.
7) 3D is a novelty. Most of time will be spent on watching 2D content So select as TV with best 2D HD picture.
8) Sound will be always average from the default speakers due to their small size. They are fine for casual hearing but for a proper 5.1 surround effect (which you will get with HD channels/blu ray) attach a decent home theatre system. This is must for complete impressive experience.
9) At the end select a TV for picture quality. Smart TV/Magic Remote/3D is a novelty which will quickly fade.
