Need advice!!! Sony W850a or LG LA6910?

sony w950 has bass woofers inbuilt comparable to 2.1 .. 60% of 2.1 .. but surround efekt wont come .. just bass

1) Panasonic is moving out of plasma business in India. So don't invest in that. There are lot of service related issues. Also Panasonic Top end LEDs are inferior to Sony top end models.
2) Sony Smart TV features are better but not the best. Samsung is best but do smart TV matter in India? I feel it is a marketing gimmick at the best.
3) Sony 2D/3D PQ is outstanding. due to triluminous technology. Compare red color rendering on any other TV with Sony. Check Amazon review for W900. It has 5 stars!
4) Clouding will happen on any edge-lit LED TV. It is only visible on white background so may not be an issue with day-to-day viewing.
5) LED black levels will be always below par Plasma. IF you want better blacks in LED, go for local dimming technology such as in Sony W900.
6) Sony Quality is better that LG/Samsung, specially for panels where it matter most.
7) 3D is a novelty. Most of time will be spent on watching 2D content So select as TV with best 2D HD picture.
8) Sound will be always average from the default speakers due to their small size. They are fine for casual hearing but for a proper 5.1 surround effect (which you will get with HD channels/blu ray) attach a decent home theatre system. This is must for complete impressive experience.
9) At the end select a TV for picture quality. Smart TV/Magic Remote/3D is a novelty which will quickly fade.

If that's all true, I wonder why SAMSUNG AND LG are 1st and 2nd largest TV selling companies in the world?
If smart features wont matter then why SONY has apps installed with a clunky UI? Why do they even have to offer smart features?

Sony Quality is better that LG/Samsung, specially for panels where it matter most.
W850 is an IPS panel manufactured by LG :)
In build Sound is always a good addition, resell value will be higher. Not everybody prefers home theater's - you don't wanna watch typical Indian serials keeping your HT ON.

Smart TV/Magic Remote/3D is a novelty which will quickly fade
I thought so.. but now i cant imagine my TV without magic motion.. it will become part of life.
3D yes... i agree with you.

Clouding will happen on any edge-lit LED TV. It is only visible on white background so may not be an issue with day-to-day viewing.
Clouding may not be an issue? then why do people even complain about it? It does effect your TV viewing experience.. remember you gotto live with it everyday.

Triluminous Technology is not a marketing gimmick?

2013 SONY TV's are good but not great. (EXCEPT W900 SERIES)

My point is SAMSUNG AND LG6910 is better than W850 :)

1) Samsung/LG has captured the market due to below par products from Sony in the previous years. Staring 2012,2013 Sony has bounced backed. Sony is the largest seller in India. Yes, W850 Panel is manufactured by LG but the triluminous backlight is propitiatory to Sony/IQ. Panels have become commodity. It all depends on which back lighting technology and the software algorithms are you using.

2) Sony Imaging Engine is better that LG/Samsung, specially in up-scaling SD stuff.

3) Clouding is not a major issue until you specifically look for it. I am not sure even people are aware of it until you tell them. No technology is perfect. You will have issues/limitations even with the most premium product. Also, clouding/edge bleeding is a panel lottery!

4) Dolby digital does transforms viewing experience. I had the same view, why do we require a 5.1 for India Soap Opera, till I attached Onkyo HT. It has transformed the most mundane stuff into enjoyable experience.

5) Smart TV features are typically useful when you have high speed broadband (4-8 mbps) and media streaming services. In India, we don't have Netflix, Amazon etc, hence the use is limited. If you have a high speed sustained broadband speed then smart tv feature should be a priority.

6) It all depends on what features are you looking for and the budget.

I totally agree with Sanjeevji..

Sony is Sony. The best in TV since years.
THE most important aspect of TV is 2D Picture quality. Other features like 3D, Audio quality, Remote, smart apps etc. is important but not as much as PQ.

Triluminous tech on W90/W900 is great. Colors really come to life. I can now see much more on tata sky HD. With Sony, I can go on watching tv for hours w/o getting eyes tired.

I wud recommend W850/W900/W950 etc anyday over LG. Go, for biggest size u can afford. The bigger the better. Don't be fooled by watching distance theory.

One more thing I feel, which many wud not agree - SONY THAILAND/MALAYSIA TVs are superior to SONY INDIA for same model.

Cheers!
Rohit

thanks to all...for spending their time to answer my questions...i have bought the lg la 6910 42 inch for 75k...just arrived in the evening....will post pics and experience soon....

could not win against my parents...especially the 3d dept...

sorry guys..

but happy with the purchase so far....

one more question...should i be posting the pics and experience in this thread...or should i create a new one??

Congrats on the purchase and I think you've done the right thing. LA6910 is a very good model and it's 3D is impressive.

You can start a new thread or there's a thread dedicated to LG LA6910 where you can post pics and review. I'm awaiting that :)

thanks...

i was too happy watching all formats with lights turned on in my hall...just when i turned all the lights down....some videos had which were not of 16:9 ratio..had black bars on top and bottom of the screen....soon my eyes caught the strange white thing on all corners...the longer i watched...the more irritating it is........is this the so called "clouding effect"...

anyone ..what should i do??

there you go..

Hey buddy firstly congrats on your new TV :yahoo: Welcome to LA6910 club

Try turning off local light dimming and turn off options like:
MOTION EYE CARE
TRUE MOTION
REAL CINEMA
DYNAMIC CONTRAST - MEDIUM
GAMMA - MEDIUM

and then try the same video.. if you still see the same problem then call LG asap and get it replaced... no need to exchange it for SONY though :p (you made a right choice)

Can you provide the shop information where you purchased for 75K. I checked couple of dealers nearby (Vasanth & Co, Girias) and their quote is in the range 80K-82K with 4 glasses free.

Thanks..
