Hi All,

Need your suggestions on this one.

Current setup

CD Player - Creek Evolution 50 CD
Exposure 3010S2 Pre/Power combination for amplification
ATC SCM 19 bookshelves with Audioquest interconnects.

I have ordered a Schiit Yggdrasil as an upgrade to my existing DAC. Planning to upgrade the amplification as well. I mostly listen to blues, jazz and acoustic stuff. occasional listening to Indian music as well.. mainly vocal centric songs....

which direction should i be moving to? My budget is around 4 lakhs. Please advise..

Thanks,
Miany

Hello,

A few FMs here have owned/own ATC speakers. They may be able to pitch in with recommendations on what amplifiers worked for them.

It may be helpful for you to rename the thread to include your speaker name also. That might catch the attention of folks who have experience with ATCs.

best,
apk

what is the reason for your upgrade ?

Are you un-happy with the Exposure 3010s2 pre-power combo ???

Can you pin-point what you wish your new amplifier did that the exposures doesnt do at the moment ?

The Exposures have oodles of power it would appear from the specifications.

Am keen to see your setup - can you post a picture of it ?

If you are going to retain the ATC SCM 19 speakers - then you may look at the
ATC SiA 150 integrated amp. This should be available in Chennai ATC dealer / distributor.

It is better to upgrade 1 thing at a time and so you can wait for the Schiit Yggdrasil to come over and settle into your system ( maybe 500+ hours ) before you decide where to splurge the money next.

As usual - YMMV !

regards

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

Dont get me wrong here. The exposure Pre/Power is an exceptional piece of gear and it has really transformed my system once i added them. I was using Dali Ikon 6 at the time. It made the Dalis perform to their peaks i believe. ATCs are in a different league altogether though. Its not that Exposure is not able to drive them or the sound is not great.. Infact, it is amazing!!

I am just exploring my options to make the whole system sound a bit more musical and involving. am sure the yggdrasil is going to bring in something in that direction ( i have listened to Schiit Gumby once and was really impressed by its involving sound!!).. just wondering if some changes in the amplification can make me move further in this direction..

Thanks,
Miany

I would highly recommend the Trigon Epilog integrated, or if you can swing it the dialog and monolog pre/power combo (going to be lot higher than your budget). I drove my ATC 11 V1's with the trigon Tre50 monoblocks and they sounded exceptional. Ultra Wide soundstage, pinpoint imaging, great tonality etc. Anyways you can listen to the Epilog at the Bangalore Dealer - Jochen Semler. PM me if you are interested, I will send you his contact details.
Cheers,
Sid

ATC speakers are known as not easy to drive. They shine with really powerful amps. Therefore my suggestion also is the Trigon Epilog. A very warm and musical sounding amp with lot of power reserves. Your ATCs will love that amp :ohyeah: And it's within your budget.

please check out Rethm from Cochin.

Audition and decide.

If you want to replace the dac and the amp - then may as well replace the speakers as well and go in for something like Rethm.

Based in your city - it will be easy for you to audition and decide.

there are so many options in the market - i am sure there can be and will be a many more equally competent suggestions.

Herr Trigons are nice amps but cant be the solution for everything :)

I have the Schitt Yggy, been listening to it for about 6 months. The source is CD transport.
A worthy upgrade. My amplification is the Trigon monoblocks.
Overall a well balanced setup.
Note: I have dropped you a PM

Thanks :) . Have listened to Rethm multiple times and that is what i think i will end up.. Noting beats them for the incredible "live" feeling they give to music.. but for the time being.. i cannot accomodate Rethms due to space constraints at my home. I am hoping to make a suitable listening room once i move into my new place. Till then will have to live this bookshelves only...

From what I can see from Trigon's website, there is no official distributor for them in India. Be careful that you don't get stuck with a grey market product without service support, Please check before buying any product if it is officially sold here.

Jochen is not a distributor. That is why he does not appear on the distributor page. Distributors stock equipment in large quantities and distribute this equipment to a dealer network all over the country. Jochen takes an order from a buyer for one piece of equipment and then imports this one single piece himself. That is the difference.

Certainly Trigon can not be the solution for everything. e.g. the Epilog connected to Rethm speakers would be waste of power. There are certainly suitable amps available for Rethm. But in the case of ATCs I believe Trigon will be a very good choice.

The best Amplifier for your kind of music is a Leben with an efficient speaker like a Zu Audio and the likes.

What about ATCs with Leben?

ATC s are 85db speakers so they require a lot of current hence a power amp or mono blocks are needed to bring out the best in them. Lebens are one of the best amps for vocals or acoustic music after Lavardins. If you can get rid of the ATC and get yourself a Leben with Zu it Harbeth or Klipsch Palladium, then there's no looking back for the kind of music you listen to. But if you want to keep the ATC try a Tube Pre and Solid State Power combination. Try a Tube pre with your Xposures see how things go.

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
