Netflix, my experience...amazing service!!! can be accessed from INDIA as well..:)

Re: Netflix, my experience...amazing service!!! can be accessed from INDIA as well..:

I wouldn't spend more than 40$ on an android box since most of the devices are hit and miss. The reason I suggested mk808 is that h/w is lot more mature with huge community driven firmware development

I doubt the cheaper Sub $50 Android Sticks are optimal for serious HiFi A/V users and thats the reason they would be more Miss than Hit. They lack most of needed feature to be taken seriously as a replacement to Dune, WD Media Players etc. How many Sub $50 supports 1080p ?? Optical Out (We know how good the DAC most of decent Media players have!!) ?? Wifi performance ?? Cooling ?? Memory ?? Starting with a bad Android TV is like trying with an Al Cheapo Android Phone and then going back to BB/iPhone..

For this very reason I bought the Minix X7 and it justifies its cost as a medium long term investment due to its future supportability of the OS and Apps - something most of Smart TVs and even midrange Media Players lack.

I would say Android TV Box is in pretty infant stage, with few manufactures setting trends and standards so much that even revered Apps like XBMC are upping the Ante to have dedicated Builds for different Models.

Well, towards the I would be devil advocate, what $50, or $134, there are some uber looking premium Android Boxes which cost $299 but boast of Ultra HD/4K streaming already !!

People,

Need some help with Netflix. I am unable to get HD quality picture on any movies/show on Netflix. This is what is the setting / resources

1. Internet: 16 mbps (checked with speedtest.net avg. 15.9 mbps)
2. Consuming device: Laptop with HD capable screen and video card
3. Browser: IE / Firefox / Chrome
4. DNS: Unlocator
5. Setting on Netflix: HD

So if I select a movie/show from the HD section and let it play, it shows that "Play in HD" is ticked however also shows "Not Playing in HD"

I shall upload a screen capture once home.

Other video services:

1. Youtube (smooth upto 1080p, 3D and 4K with buffering)
2. Dailymotion (smooth in HD)
3. HULU and Amazon - HD

All flash based video services easily play in HD. Don't know about any other Silverlight based video service

Please advise

@anshulkwatra, I don't have experience with PC and netflix but this was earlier suggested in this thread by Sam....

Hey Sam,
Last time you were speaking bout some settings for the browser so that HD works, could you share the same, i am using firefox for watching netflix on my pc. It seldom goes to 720p and keeps jumping between 480p and 720p.

oh its the buffer value, if for some reason the browser does not choose the optimum buffer value, you can do that manually. I think the shortcut is Shift+Control+alt+S or Shift+Control+alt+left click anything above 2000 is HD I believe.

Re: Netflix, my experience...amazing service!!! can be accessed from INDIA as well..:

Thanks @nSinghal, tried the buffering change and now getting HD. Will check if the same can be pushed further ;)

How did you manage to change the buffer value? Can you please provide step by step instruction?

Hi Muks , sorry I already purchased subscription yesterday night.

You can still share it with one person. The base subscription ($8/month) allows two simultaneous streams. Family subscription ($12/month) allows four streams and only required if you have more than two members.

nSinghal quoted my post for the same .....

I tried it but I didn't get anything to set any types of buffer. Is it virtual memory setting?

When the Netflix is running press shift+alt_left click and you should see the menu (this is for chrome, for ff and IE it might be different) ..... choose stream manager from there ...check out the snapshots

Anyone noticing poor picture quality using unblock-us ? I have 8 MBPS airtel connection. when I use speedtest using recommended server i.e. nearest local server here... then I get expected i.e. 8 mbps download speed. When I manually select US based server , the download speed varies and always below 3 or max 4 mbps.. I am guessing this may be the reason for poor pic quality . I have set up best quality in account settings page. And waited for more than an hour ( actually full breaking bad episode ) and quality never improved.

I've tried unblock-us, unotelly and currently using unlocator.com with airtel's 8mbps plan. No issues reaching superhd on my ps3 (on any of the three services) within minutes as long as no one else at my home is hogging up the bandwidth.

iPad on the other hand never gets HD. Only sd even though the app is supposedly updated for HD resolution last month only. Which device are you using?

Re: Netflix, my experience...amazing service!!! can be accessed from INDIA as well..:

I have tried it on FULL HD capable laptop using latest Netflix app for win8 and Sony HX853 . Couple of months ago when I had tried Netflix and unblock this wasn't the case.

This time , first I tried unlocator and faced weird problem. Netflix some other apps just disappeared from TV. tried hell lot of steps / content refresh but nothing worked. so finally went back to unblock and after refreshing internet content , Netflix and other apps came back. but totally disappointed with the picture quality.

Will try wired connection after some time to see if that changes anything.

I am keen to join a group, or even start a new one. Can someone please summarize which devices/apps support different profiles for the family plan?
