onkyo hts 3300

Hi !!

I just bought wall mount for 3300. The mounts are 4 way tiltable are made of plastic and is mentioned to have load bearing capacity of 5 Kg. It cost me Rs700 for 4pcs. Since speakers are non threaded, its tricky, u have to use nut and bolt and it will be 4 way tilting.

Nikhil

Is it branded one? Where did you buy? If available, pliz provide the link.

My connection to TV and DTH as follows

TSHD--HDMI-TV
TSHD--Optical-3300

Advantage of this setup is that I dont need to keep AVR ON always to watch TV. For example when my kid watch cartoon or family watch regular regional soap serials no point of directing the sound through AVR thereby saving power.

As of now I switch ON AVR only when I watch NGC HD, Dicovery HD, Cricket matches or movies.

Finally after a few moths of R&D and confusion between 3400 i bought 3300 this Saturday and got it installed the same day.

Got it from Onkyo Wonderland Karol Bagh for 23.5K+some free 16 meter of speaker wires and also paid 1k ofr 1 Optical and Coax cable so over all it cost me 24.5 k with installation and wiring.
upto now i m more than happy and satisfied with my purchase

here is my setup.

Tata Sky HD -----> Panasonic C10 D via HDMI for VIdeo
Tata Sky HD -----> 3300 Amp via Coax Cable for Audio
WD Media Player ----> Panasonic C10D via HDMI for Video
WD Media Playet ----> 3300 Amp via Optical Cable for Audio

For Tata SKY HD audio on 3300 Amp i have Assigned CBL/SAT and Coax, i get Dolby digital sound from all HD channel and from all other channels i get sound from all the speakers
Tried all the HD channels and it was an great experience, wached Bhool Bhulaiya on Star Golde HD ,National treasure of Start Movies HD and IPl on Set Max HD amd it was mind blowing.

For WD Media Player(Gen-2) Audio on 3300 Amp i have assigned BD/DVD and Optical, firstly i did not got 5.1 sound form any of my Movies(Downloaded from Net) most of all with DTS and AC3 audio than i set the input audio to Neo-6 channel after that i was able to get 5.1 sound from all the content.

Watched Black Hawk Down with DTS sound and some video songs with AC3 and DTS sound , this experience was also great

over all quite happy with the purchase not sure abt the pricing though

so if u guys feels that i need to change some settings or can recommend some basic settings for it, that ll be a big help

Why did you go for older HT-S3300? You could have got HT-S3400 at around the same price.

If you have Tata Sky HD and not Tata Sky+ HD
Then a simpler and better setup will be as follows:

Tata Sky HD(HDMI OUT)--->HDMI--->(HDMI IN)HT-S3300
HT-S3300(HDMI OUT)--->HDMI--->(HDMI IN)Panasonic C10

Not sure if your WD Media Player has HDMI OUT.
If yes then connect
WD Media Player (HDMI OUT)--->HDMI--->(HDMI IN)HT-S3300

Neo-6 is virtual 5.1 audio. You are not getting true 5.1. WD Media Player is sending downmixed 2 channel audio to HT-S3300. There must be some setting in WD Media Player to enable DTS/DD passthrough.

Tanks for your reply mate

I bought 3300 bcos its trusted and used i found very less reviews on the net and also on HV their was nothing special abt 3400
I asked abt the same connection u specified to the Tech. guy but he said its better to get sound from optical and coax cables than HDMI
Also i went thru the complete thread and came to know abt the DTS sound and how i have to set the right output from the media player.

rest u guys can help me abt what should i do, as i alreadu i hav spen 1k on the cables

That's because they wanted to sell you extra cables..........and they succeeded :)

Hmmmm yup and but OK i can live with that, thanks for your help mate can please also share the best settings for 3300 ,i didnt had time to go thru the manual but i ll be busy doing that this weekend for sure

This Sunday i was watching Despicable me, and in the Rocket to moon launching seen the woofer was almost bouncing for atleast 10 seconds and this bumpiness kills all the scene, what should i do to stop the woofer bouncing.

Well I have pasted the rubber pads provided along with Onkyo 3300. Used simple tape to stick them to the woofer and things have been fine for me - else they caused a clanking sound.

As for settings for my setup

Crossover - 200

Level calibration - Center - +5

audyssey - off

Used the menu button and AVR display to turn off Dyn Bass and have upped treble to +4.

A/V Sync has been changed as per my wdtv live - you may need to configure as per your requirements.

All the above settings also get a bit tweaked depending on what I am watching...I prefer crisp bass as compared to the boomy bass this box delivers hence the above settings.

You can keep all the default settings.
Just turn off Audyssey.
If you feel treble is less you can increase it to +4.
These should suffice.

you need to tweak it a bit to get the best of it

turning odyssey off improves the sound alot

you can also play with level cal settings( adjust db to get equal sound from all speakers at listening position)

and also calibrate speaker distance with respect to listening position
