Panasonic DMP-BDT220 Review

Hi Soamz,

First of all go thru the website and give me the specific model number you want.

Then of course the quantity. Since it is five or more I will try to get it at a better price and let you know the pricing details.

If you are happy, then you can send me the money to my account and I will ship it off to you.

Find out who ships to your area and I will contact them and ship it off to you.

Vinod

Exactly the same one which you bought and using .

Just 5 numbers. Tell me the total in a message and send bank details.

Soamz, congratulations on having received your player, but its quite unfortunate that you do not have the converter.

Its great to know that Vinod is helping out in procuring and sending the converter to you. Do share your experience after you have it working.

What is the big deal of this adapter and wanting to buy it online? It is available in most electrical shops for Rs. 250~275.

Finally my BDT 220 arrived from US yesterday. A friend of friend bought it for me on his return. :ohyeah:

Got the 220 to 110 converter from ebay delivered today morning and connected.....

One word AWESOME :yahoo:

Man it scans (1 TB HDD) so fast and the picture quality is soooo nice and the sound is totally different from I have been hearing from my Onkyo+Sony config. Just one gripe that it doesnt play xvid so I will not dispose off my Sony DVD just yet. I was planning to hack it to make it region free but BDT220 + Sony DVD would serve my purpose.

I havent tested any media player but I am sure they cant match the hardware that this beauty has! Ekdum dollar (paid 93+ USD;)) vasool :clapping:

Network config pending.. though it recognized my wifi connection in a jiffy.

Cheers,
Vishu

Like I said 93 USD plus expedite shipping charge. Converter I bought from ebay for 258 INR (using ebay coupon)

Step Down Voltage converter 220 to 110 TRANSFORMER based 50 Watts | eBay

I got it for 79USD last week and the player just got delivered yesterday only.
But my Maxcons have not yet got delivered, so waiting for it to start my tests.

The 1st step would be the firmware upgrade. So, connect the LAN card to the BR player and then how to test the internet ?

@vishu, I am able to play xvid files quite well. Maybe the potential was unlocked because of the region free firmware update but somehow I don't subscribe to that. Or maybe it was because mine is an Indian model.

^ Second that. My DMP-BDT220 plays Xvid video off a USB pendrive just fine.

I did not try playing Xvid before the enhanced firmware update so not sure if the update did anything. I imported the BDP from the US so that muddies the waters a bit.

Thanks for the reply kix.

My sources (BDP, CBL, Media PL) are connected to the AVR and thereon to the TV with single HDMI cable. I didn't get the HDMI control setting that you mentioned. Went through the menu on the BDP and couldn't find it. Could you help me locate that? I could try some changes with that and see if it works.

Now each time I on the player, the TV switches to HDMI input 1 and I have to switch it back to 2.

Turning off Viera Link fixes this problem. I found this out when I applied a fix, to another problem, as suggested by an FM. See post #3 on this thread

Thanks for the review. Does this player streams HD audio (TruHD & HDMA) from mkv files as well ? If i connect it to an amplifier will it downstream the audio ? Those who have it and have tested please let me know.

It does support HD audio. For AVRs that do not support HD audio, it has an option to downmix the DTS-HD to DTS sound. You can find that in audio settings.

I havent tried the firmware update yet. Just checked the network connectivity and it played youtube videos just fine.

How much time will it take to update firmware on wifi. I havent kept it on UPS yet, so dont want to deal with the hassle of power outage while doing upgrade.

It gives you the option to test internet connection in the settings. Once you have connected it to network and start the player, the next steps are fairly intuitive at the time of setting up the blu-ray player.

Region free firmware is not available over the internet that way. It is available after registering and donating to the firmware site.

If you don't have backup power during the firmware update, I suggest downloading the firmware, burning to a CD or copying to USB and then doing the update offline. You don't want the remotest possibility of bricking your BDP due to a firmware update that was only partly applied due to a power failure.

Rightly said but I want to be absolutely sure if I want to go firmware route. I have a DVD that plays my xvid files. The newer ones will be mkv so upcoming ones will be taken care of.

Plus I heard every firmware release is paid and im not sure what benefits are made available in every update.
