Panasonic DMP-BDT220 Review

Hey guys!
I've been restricting myself but nonetheless being sorely tempted.
Is this safe and is it good? 220V with NTSC & weight in Lbs. Does it look dicey? No region indication. Seller rating 98.8%.
Has anybody bought from this seller?
Take the plunge, shall I??? Or shall I go with hifimart at 10,990?
Also, will it play 5.1 through USB?
EDIT - The same seller has Pioneer BDP-450 for 12,500/- Any opinions?

I ordered one day before. Owner's name is Selvaraj. He told this is region A player, and would work in 220-240v conditions. Exported from Bangkok likely.
It has not been shipped yet, I talked with him today - says will ship on Friday.

I checked his past feedback comments, and saw at least one feedback from a person who purchased this item, and voted 5 stars.

Cheers,

That's from grand_deal. Cost is lower, and more reputation percentage points too. I was initially going to buy from baseline, did few Q&A on emails too, but he increased the price by 1k (sometime earlier this week), so bought it from grand_deal.

I think there's a member who purchased from baseline last week or so when the prices were 1k lower. Skimmed through last few pages. He looked satisfied with his purchase.

Cheers.

I have bought it from bestseller last week when price was 1k less than the current price and well satisfied with the packing/delievery etc. I opened the box today morning and just did some basic tests with music/Network etc and looks good thogh i have not tested any bluray disc yet....

I downloaded some demo clips today and they are in .m2ts file format, have any body tried this format from a hard disc via the USB port?

I bought from grand_deal in July but at a much higher price. I am clueless why the price dropped so drastically within a month, perhaps due to arrival of new model.
Anyway there is no issue with the product, brand new, original packing and 220V operation. Not bothered about region coding.

The grand_deal listing is gone! Only the baseline2013 remains at Rs 9.499.
The BDT230 is available at Panasonic stores for 9,900 (MRP 10,900 I think). Any opinions?

If I were you, would have purchased BDT230 by end of the day today, and moved over to spending time on flipkart/ amazon browsing blurays. :D

By paying just 500/- Rs you are getting 1 year manufacturer warranty, instant delivery, latest product, and no headache of power adapter and what not...

Yes I tried the m2ts clips yesterday evening, they didn't work but somehow some 3 clips played out of my downloaded list of 12 files.

Any work around to make these play? say some file conversion or something, all the good DTS, HD, THX demo clips in a well known site is in this format.

The m2ts does not work with the bdt220 through harddisk/ usb. It works with a PS3 though.

Bought from baseline on sep 1st, it was delivered yesterday, tried bluray,DVD,500gb hdd (mkv,avi,mp4),audio cd. Everything looks very good. But built quality of bdt220 is not gr8.

One query on how to enable netflix and also to make region free?

Thanks purple_heyze! Just what I have been thinking ever since I learnt of the 230's price yesterday afternoon. I have gone the opposite way. have already hunted down and ordered several bargains on Flipkart & Amazon.in. Will get the 230 in a day or two.

I have not found the "build quality" of any BDP in the same price range/budget/feature range to be any better or worse than this BDP.

Netflix is not available in India. Netflix will determine your location by your internet (real) IP address as given to your router by the ISP. It may be possible to fool Netflix by having a proxy server, etc., but I do not know the process and never tried it as I was never interested. A separate thread on this may help you.

To make it region free, you will need to get a firmware update from firmwareinfo.com.

Can you share what bargains did you grab? I have been checking out Flipkart & Amazon very regularly..didnt catch any great bargain though..

Well, I didn't mean bargain basement, just the ongoing 50% discounts.
Few Imax, Lion King, Monsters Inc for 649 ea, Dark Knight Trilogy for 1499, etc
Dark Knight Trilogy and many others are back to original prices. Many e.g., Imax are showing out of stock on Flipkart.

No work around to play these files? the demo files available in this site are all in this format.

2D High Definition Trailers (HD) - Demo World

Hi Guys,

I was thinking of buying a BD player for some day. Last Sunday I visited Panasonic brand shop in Jayanagar, Bangalore; but they did not had BDT220, instead the sales person told the recent model is BDT230, and the price is around 9-10K (not sure about the exact price).

Do you have any idea about the 230, how it is better/worse than 220? If any one can give some light, it would be really helpful. I am more interested on the pic quality, sound quality and upscaling feature rather than networking.

Thanks in advance,
Sandip

BDT 220 is the old model (2012). The new model is BDT 230. Don't think there is a huge difference. Might be very minute changes. If you are looking to buy better go for the new BDT 230, as with that you'll get the warranty as well.

Not many here in the forum has got it as it is launched very recently in India, though available for around last 6 months in US.

The difference between BDT220 and BDT230 is as huge as a two droplets of water, one weighing 2 gm while the other weighing 2.05 gm. However, please check at firmwareinfo.com whether region free f/w is available for model 230.

Is there any other player from any other brand that can I look for? I know 220 got very good review from all of the users, however even if I look for any other brand, which model would that be?
