Panasonic plasma V20 series group buy

Never thought that buying a panel would turn out to be such a complex affair

@ Kittu, thanks for your inputs. Now since you are the only (so it seems) apart from me who has seen the 830M in action what do you say to the model @80K. This was the lowest offered to me as of date. I ask you this as in if you were to compare this with other LCD/LED panels that you have seen with similar class leading features.

It would not be a comlpex affair , if you had not joined forums like this. ;)

Coming to the 830M tv, I kind of liked the picture quality close to my Old SONY W series LCD(best of the lot). But would I spend 80k on a 40 incher, nope!! I might as well settle for a SONY CX 520 series 40 or 46 incher for parental viewing.

I am from Bangalore but currently in Mumbai. At this price, I would think about buying the 42V20 here and take to Bangalore. But is that going to work out?

I am not sure I can check it in flight. Plasma is heavy and with glass always a risk of breaking because of mishandling.

Can I send through courier then?

Thanks for your inputs.

42V20 at 45/49K - Croma Bandra West. I was more interested in 50VT20 so did not inquire much about V20 (demo or fresh piece).

Btw, I picked up a Logitech MK260 wireless keyboard / mouse combo + Logitech speaker Z103 at 1799. Using it right now with Vaio connected to PK550. Such fun!

Inquired at Croma, CBD Belapur, they told me that all available stocks at croma are display prices and they have no available stock for v20 at their warehouse.

So 49,900/- is for the demo piece. Would you guys recommend for going for it against 42U30 which I can get it for 41k?

How True

All right then how about 55K for a sealed box packed but now discontinued 40HX800 from Sony. This one has a Bravia 3 Engine with 200 hz motion flow yada yada. Comes with standard warranty.

Last night while reading the reviews for VT30; VT20 and the ST30, I learnt that of the lot the ST30 would be the best for a brightly lit room ( also read as room with open windows during day time) as the brightness levels for the above 3 panels were very poor and only the ST managed not to get washed out due to some new filter and also because of better native brightness. This appears to be growing concern for me as I like to watch the tv with lights blazing. Actually I sort of never watch TV directly as 99% of the time I would be doing some reading or general correspondence alongside and definitely need lights. Further the wall in my bedroom on which the panel is to be mounted has not one but two windows on the opposite wall, about 12 feet away. I have seen a 50ST30 in action at a brightly lit brand shop but not the VT or the V series. The ST does have a reflective screen but once the picture comes on the reflection stops being a bother. Based on your exposure to these different panels how much of a problem do you think this low brightness could be.

I am not going to talk about VT30 as I have not seen it in store.

Coming to ST30 yes it does well in bright lit rooms , but it was reflective. Kind of a hybrid tv this one is . LED+Plasma types.... But once the picture is on you hardly notice the reflection. Again depends on the source and quality.
VT20 for me was the best one with deep blacks, yes it does get darker and u tend to miss some details in a brightly lit room . You can always control the room lighting and after the break in period there are many modes and settings to calibrate your TV for your best viewing conditions.

BTW, what was the price quoted for SONY?

Hi Khoj,

My sincere advice... Stay away from plasmas.

Hi Khoj,

My sincere advice... Stay away from plasmas.

Hi Blasto,

LOL, hey what brought that on?

BTW, just spoke to the Croma call center. Per the exec. on line there are no stocks of the V or the VT anywhere just a demo unit of 42V20 at one of the Croma stores here. I asked her to check specifically for stocks in AP & MH besides DL and she had the same response. Guess a personal visit to the stores will bring more clarity.

But really why the advise to move away. Is it because of the lighting etc in my room. Coming from you I would like to consider the reasons seriously.

Hi Blasto,

Below is the reason.

I like to watch the tv with lights blazing. Actually I sort of never watch TV directly as 99% of the time I would be doing some reading or general correspondence alongside and definitely need lights. Further the wall in my bedroom on which the panel is to be mounted has not one but two windows on the opposite wall, about 12 feet away.

The window is going to kill the contrast until properly draped. If there is any window atall on the opposite side, you should re-think. Room lighting (tube lights/bulbs) themselves should affect only less.

I have not seen the ST30 yet. Hence no comments. But have seen the VT20 in action.

While the peak brightness of ST30 is double that of the VT20, Both have (almost) same AR filters. Iam not sure how it translates to overall contrast in real life. I say because, the sets never reach peak brightness in caliberated settings. It is only a buffer mostly. But 'double' the brightness is something to have a relook at.

I will checkout the ST30 and post comments here.

Add to the above, it is a bedroom ultimately. The seating positions are limited to the bad which is right opposite to the TV. This means viewing angle will not be a problem even in LCD/LEDs. That is the single most important advantage of the plasma that you won't need.

Thanks Blasto, understand what you are saying and concur with the same. The problem for me with the available LCD/LED models is that I just don't find their PQ anywhere close to my existing panel which is a 32" Hitachi model being 32LD9800TA. Unlike the brightly lit up LCDs this one has a muted picture just like those in a Plasma but with a screen that is completely non reflective. At the risk of getting flamed I have to say that when I saw the 50ST30 it was like I was watching my tv only with a bigger screen.

I will await your inputs on the ST30 & will also be following the 'ST30 impressions' thread for inputs arising out of actual usage.

Any one from bangalore looking for V20, VT20 and GT20 at good prices. Please call Ramesh Singh (Mr.singh) , Devi International @ 9980760797. Limited stocks available.

It seems it would be cheaper if I come to bangalore by car (will cost around 12000 for petrol + toll) than buying in Pune (81,>1L,?)!

Why do that? Insured courier will work below 4000/-Rs , unless some octrio issues. The seller is ready to transport via VRL or Ship thru the courier at buyers cost.:)

Ok guys, I foud a shop who quotes 80k for VT20 as first quote in hyd via phone.. Asked me to come in person to 'work out' a deal. He has branches in chennai and pune too..

Amol.. I know you are beaming.. :D
How much do you want to pay me.? ;)
